This one was at a bike show couple years ago. Never heard of them, but I fell instantly in love.

What is up with that can?  Look like a vacuum cleaner head.  Rest of the bike looks sweet, though.

Brooklands Silencer.

A Spec muffler mandated due to so much racing at the Brooklands Track in the UK.

Norton "featherbed" frames and their "roadholder" forks had all kinds of engines stuffed into them, notably the Triumphs, but I don't think I ever saw or thought of a Vincent power plant  ;D

As i was in the process of picking up a new mattress, a guy down the street pulled out this old bike.  I asked him how old the bike was. His old german man response was, "Its 62! Just as old as me!" I kinda got a kick out of it and continued to admire the classic rig.  Shortly after snapping a couple photos, an old lady pulled in the drive then walks over to me.  Whispering to me she states, "Do you know how old that bike is??.......... Just as old as the rider!" She chuckles and wadles away.

Old german people make me laugh, they express themselves in such a funny manner...... Anyhow without further adeu here is the 1950 Triumph

Love this quote-typical backhanded english compliment.
"So long as you understand that you're buying a handbuilt, relatively sedate, classic British motorcycle, you're not likely to be disappointed with the performance of the Hesketh V1000."

A few years ago somebody or some group was trying to bring out a new Vincent. This was their first prototype. Then they did a dumb looking version with a Honda v-twin and everyone lost interest.

Although a very heavy motor, those old triples are incredibly torquey and leave the twins for dead. Very impressive motor. I deal with two T150 Tridents and the motors hold up to real world riding. The weight is kept low in the frame though. I know a guy who sold his street triple and instead rides a restored T150 with modernized ignition and electrics. It seems you need to add another disc, jet the middle pot a little richer, rewire them and get an aftermarket ignition and they go well. After riding both I understand. Never thought I'd say it, but I'd have one over my old Bonnie any day.
If that Norton frame drops a lot of weight,  then that would be a great bike.

I have a soft spot for the Triumph Triple. A mechanic friend of mine warns me off of them, tho......

The T150 had a rep for seizing the middle cylinder when real hot or racing. During jetting tests we found that the middle pot ran leaner on the same jets as the outer cylinders. The middle exhaust divides off and extracts into the two outer cylinder pipes, while the air cleaner appears to flow more air into the middle cylinder. In addition to those issues the middle cylinder cops heat saturation with less cooling fin area and you have a problem.
To get the same plug colours, we ran the middle carb needle a notch richer and a couple of sizes richer on the main jet.
We know of guys with 850 big bore kits, but no issues if the jetting is set correct for the middle cylinder. Sometimes the oil galleries are opened and special oil coolers are used on worked motors.
I rode a 675 Street Triple and was bored, but had a ball on the old trident! I like these jiggers!

I saw "Slippery Sam" at the National Bike Museum in England back in the '90s. I also saw the prototype Quadrant. :D

Title: Re: Miscellaneous cool English bikes.

T160 was the last generation Trident back in the day. It had electric start, slanted forward cylinders, 5 speed box iirc, twin discs and new modern styling. I think it was detuned but more reliable with better lubrication and cooling. I've only seen two or three ever up close.

The Quadrant was in the English museum (4 cylinder prototype based on Trident). I took a photo which is in an album somewhere.

I bet someone will have pics.

This one didn't have a label on the headlamp for judging purposes and I wasn't paying much attention to Triumphs in 1971 but I'd suspect you are right; T120 650. In that period I had an R69S.  8)

Title: Re: Miscellaneous cool English bikes.

That styling only lasted two years.
The flatter headlight shell and wire type brackets were not popular with Triumph enthusiasts. A traditional lot. They went back to the teardrop headlamp shape in '73. '71 brought new forks and the new oil in frame chassis, which should have had a greater oil capacity than it did. Oil in the frame let them put an early airbox where the oil tank used to be, so they got rid of the iconic "pancake" air filters which looked cool, but were on borrowed time with the EPA. First year of more restrictive mufflers too.

OK..., but dont expect "fine art"!  ;D On the bike I only carry a tiny C-Lux 2 for note-taking. In soft light it does a remarkable job at times, but in laser light it struggles... These are the best edits I could manage. First with a modded 850 Commando and then from the right rear.

Background story: One of my son's collector car broker partners found this and a dark grey K1 in among a collection he bought in the winter. We have two "old bike" retired mechanics who are good at bringing stale bikes back to life to at least a saleable condition, so bikes always get shipped to us. The K1 was done first and son sold it on eBay. Another collector spotted the Velocette while it was in process and made an offer on the spot. Someone had done 85% of the "survivor" restoration years ago and just stopped. A lot of the hard work had been done already. Mainly just cosmetics and missing bits needed to be sourced. This was the result. "It Lives!"  8)

Left his Meguirs Quick Detailer behind...  8)

Looks like its feeding the carbs via an airbox or just snaking around behind them.

On that engine the intake manifold is located right at that point.  ??? http://d136nqpz68vrmx.cloudfront.net/Marketing/community/articles/triumph-bonneville/triumph-bonneville-1.jpg (http://d136nqpz68vrmx.cloudfront.net/Marketing/community/articles/triumph-bonneville/triumph-bonneville-1.jpg)

Maybe they removed the airbox and have the manifolds snaking around for a forward facing filter?

Because there is no front wheel chock?

Pretty much.
I've got WMC Handy lifts, and they have a very robust clamp for either front or rear wheel.
It's what I'm accustomed to using, I know I can tug pretty hard on the bike and it won't move.

I've had a few bikes slide on the rearstand due to the slope of the swingarm.
No big deal 'til he rear tire touches down, but then it can go pear-shaped very quickly.

Unit tiger, late 650 or 750. Slim an' trim. Wonder what years chassis/wheels they are? Old rear onto late front half of "oil in frame" type, with later forks with the '71/72 front drum? Not sure.
Those late US tanks were so elegant.

Single cylinder, side valve.  Exhaust has a ball shaped chamber in it for some reason.  Chain driven 'thing' in front of the frame tube is likely a generator for the lighting.

It's the extra-weird animatronic voice.

The cool cachet of juxtaposed vintage lends that extra bit of irony to the neo-classicism of the build.

Im trying to get my head around the motor. The builder looks like he has grafted vintage and current model parts, but I can't see clearly enough to tell. On the timing side I see an exposed servo chain and there is something going on with the primary side. Reminds me of a dry clutch/belt drive conversion on an old T150 racing clutch. I can't see clearly. Current era Bonnie top end. The tank is genuine modified vintage or fabbed up.
Would like to know more.

Just how wealthy do you have to be to put your fully restored Brough Superior (Norton Manx, etc.) in the hands of a half-mad pro motorcycle racer to race it in the rain - and crash it? Pretty wealthy, I'm guessing...

......The bike has a Harley 5 speed and clutch ,the Harley electric starter is also used....I built it from a pile of parts...90's Suzuki wheels and forks, much of the rest was made with hand held tools and a 60 year old lathe...
Currently the bike has 98 HP at the rear wheels...I made some modifications to the exhaust that should add about 6-8 HP...The two engine make 85  ft lbs of torque @ 5200.....It geared for 165 MPH at 7300 RPM...I think as it is it'll crowd 160 MPH...The 1350 cc gas pushrod class is dominated by Harleys, records at various LSR tracks are 152-172 MPH...

Here's a video of me putting some heat into the engines and you can see the primary drive

       https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0iAE28m8UQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0iAE28m8UQ)

This is the other Triumph I built........A younger  friend does the riding on both...650 pushrod gas modified production..It currently has the one mile standing start record ,125 mph...The bike has run 129 MPH on a 1-1/2 mile ....
The bike photographed at Loring Maine just seconds before taking off to set a new class record...

So my single engine 650 Triumph went up to the 1-1/2 mile standing start in Loring Maine two weeks ago...Set a new record of 133.1 MPH in the modified naked frame push rod engine class...This is the fastest officially timed speed for this class anywhere.

The double engine bike ran an easy 142 mph on it's first run with the rider holding back to be sure there was no handling problems....The second run was aborted when he noticed low oil pressure on the front engine....

A 1950 Sunbeam S7deluxe, .....my 1950 Sunbeam S7deluxe.

So my Ibutamoren results (https://www.mensjournal.com/health-fitness/mk-677-ibutamoren-results-i-tried-it-for-6-weeks-does-it-work/) went up to the 1-1/2 mile standing start in Loring Maine two weeks ago...Set a new record of 133.1 MPH in the modified naked frame push rod engine class...This is the fastest officially timed speed for this class anywhere.

The double engine bike ran an easy 142 mph on it's first run with the rider holding back to be sure there was no handling problems....The second run was aborted when he noticed low oil pressure on the front engine....

I'm a huge fan of Sunbeam bikes. That's a great looking S7, Monstyr. Is it in as good of a condition as it looks?

Up close it has a few rusty bits but I prefer an old bike to have patina of age rather then the over restored ones you sometimes see.

Just about to rewire the whole bike, should take me a long afternoon I reckon.

There's some great work in this thread.
I saw a modern Norton on the road the other day. It was impressive.

Does anyone know if these latest Nortons are rubber mounted like the original Norton Commandos?

No idea.
Balance shafts or crank timing change due to such large capacity parallel twin motors?

From watching the startup, running, and whisky throttling, I'm gonna say no.
Looks smooth, nothing moving around.

Sounds nice with the open meg.

Thanks, I couldn’t really tell from the specs on their website. They probably have some sort of counterbalancer now.

I just get this vibe from that valve cover:

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1928/44808129941_9488f5808f.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2bgxnWv)

Black, with some shallow highlighted fins would make it much better IMO.

IIRC they're a staggered pin crank, with balancer(s).

Not trying to be a nitpicker, but wouldn't it be better with that trans cover in black, and the headpipe finish carried over onto that megaphone/muffler?

I agree with you SD, especially the trans cover. I guess the pipe/can was carrying over the wheel treatment.

Thanks. Not sure what you did. My posted image shows on Win10 Pro/Firefox no issue. Not sure why you couldn't view it. That site isn't https. Perhaps new forum software dislikes it. Couldn't embed links on the Triumph forum when they switched hosting software unless the site was https. Maybe that was/is your issue?
