Yes I'll be using the Lock .... there's a glass key the you can buy as an accessorie ... I'll put the glass key in my
helmet ... so when I'm gona put my helmet on the bike while preparing myself........ the bike will come "alive"the instant I'll put my helmet on it .........magic.... ;D [drool]

WARNING ! If you dont know how to use a multimeter .... forget this project playing whit electrical stuff can be letal
1-having experience in soldering electronics is critical
2-A good knowledge about apms,volts, ohms, grouds etc... is necessairy
3-understanding AWG gages and how they interact whit the connectors and how to crimp properly..... very importat
3.2 - Be preprapare to do the imposible and alot of patience! :D
4- + have been playing in the loom for a couple of years ;D

3- ingnition section ( i've used the old conectores form the coil and ignition module )
4- front section ( horn, signal, headligth )

A few principle of desing
1- dont run ground in the loom because it make it bigger....
2-Ground at the "base's" at front, midle and rear sections
3- using pods ... i'll use part of the aibox to put electronics in it making it very clean

the motogaget motorscope tiny is .... well... tiny :o
0.5 mm gauge ( I think... ) !!!! :o almost impossible to crimp properly so some soldering is needed to make a good connection...

I'll also install the push botton from motogadget ;
Simple, great looking , and the grounds are directly in the push botton "compartement"
So no grouds are rooted trough the loom for the signals controls .. hi-beam
left turn, horn on one side and start / righ turn on the other.
The M-button green wire is the only one going through the loom

What took the longest was the design of it because I add to do a lot of reaserch [coffee]
Doing the crimping, soldering, whiring is about 10 hours but the desing is about 40 hours I guess.... :)
I like the m-switches...I don't know if i can like them for $138 but they are really purty. Most of the ducati ones are really bulky and stick out on the handlebars. Keep up with Pictures!

If I read correctly, she's rewired the entire bike. Wiring is heavy and she's removed a ton of it...
But yeah, I imagine she went with a LiFePo battery? That's what I did when mne needed to be replaced and saved me almost 7lbs...

Yes it includes the battery. I didin't bougth it yet. I've just add the weigth to what I'd alredy done.
I have a few options for the battery but it will be betwen 1.2 to 1.6 ponds
The intument cluster whit the sterring lock weigth about 8 ponds
Also.... I'll use coilpacks intead of the old 50' style coils the bike came whit .....
so I'm saving weigth because there will be no spark plug wires

Get the bigger battery: LiFePO batteries are rated as Pb equivalent, not actual Ah.

Did you find a source for coil on plug coil packs for the Air cooled motor? The only thing I can find are Accekk coils for twin cam Harleys, and they lok a little too bulkey to fit the monster cyl head.

Those coils might stand out too far at an angle on the air cooled motor? Maybe the Exactfit will give a big spark but are still very light, much lighter than the Dynas or Accel. If you find very small/or short stick coils it would be a great find. I know the Accel from my Harley days. I wonder if MSD make something special you need? Have you checked the Electrex site?

Having wired up 6 MotoGadget units onto customers bikes through out the years, the quality is first rate...
I did use a MotoGadget Tiny once, but I mounted it where the original key cylinder went in order to leave the ENTIRE stock gauge area blank... (I hid the key cylinder under the tank.) Was a very clean installation...

Very clean installation. I did a Motogadget Motoscope Pro on Edgar and the wiring I did looked remedial compared to that work. This gives me motivation to redo what I have.
One question though about my integrated tail light. On the M-Unit, the way it reads in their literature, the turn signals act a running lights but is configurable. That's the only thing that's kept me from getting one. Can this be confirmed ?

Signal ligths can be used as "navigation lights"
On the setup menue's of the M-unit you can set them at different brigthness ex: 10% - 20% - 30 % or 0% ( default setup)
Personnally I'll do the default setup because I have a motodynamics integrated tail ligth
Also you can setup hazard's :)

The apex clip-ons dont have a hole at the end . Only a bolt
Also there hare full from half to end ... [bang]. so no place to route the wires in the handlebar
I pass the wires outside the clip-ons the only a small ty-rap missing to make it less visible

By the way, how easily are the Deutsch connectors to de-pin? I just got done with a project using AMP Superseal 1.5 connectors, and they are easily de-pinned using dental pics.

Near the neck is the plate where the ignition is mounted. It's sides have a large hole in it. I wonder if your M unit fob sensor would fit in one of them.

Although after a lot of design I foud the most pratical place for the M-lock underneat to motorscope. This way , if there's an emergency I reach for it easselly.

I have a 1995 monster so it didin't any antitheif system and non ECU ... so the instalation was easy
The wiring diagram rhat I've posted was a diagram that I've created myself for a full motogadget system whit the M-unit, M-button and motorscope tiny ... so it would be no use in your case.

My first intuition would be to look at the cicuit for the sidestand ....
There's a ligth in the original gauges... the + that goe's the the ligth must be grounded......
If you remove the stock gauges the + tha goes to the sidestand warning light is no more gounded and the
bike will not start ....
A solution you be to groud the + wire ... to close the cicuit
But I dont have the bike in front of me so it's at your hown risk

Some say either; "the customer is always right" or the customer is always an @sshole". Both can be true...but the repair shop/dealer is almost always an incompetent hack, a thief, or both.
heh -- the drama was the job became more of an issue than he expected, I won't bore you with the details but there was no negative interaction or anything. I guess I'll see how he responds to my critique of his work.
I tackled this same project back in the day! I opted for solder connections to the existing harness. I like your method. It allows for service, if needed. great job!
I actually bought the first Motogadget "classic" Sold in the US. It was sold to me directly from the factory. I got a prototype for testing. It only calculated distance in KM even though it has a selection for Miles. the aux/ warning light is always on no mater how it gets wired (NO/ NC). They offered to fix it, but I thought that it would be neat to keep it with the original software on it.

I've tried it and the apex clip-ons are to close ..... and after months of feild testing it ....just below the motogadget tiny is the best place ... easy to reach ... and a sensation in bike nigth's.... lol
Also, I'm working to make a full wiring diagram in PDF file ... that everybody can refer to.... cuming in a week or two
+ I'm start overhauling the bike in a few weeks .... the wiring will fo inside the frame ...

The diagram was done on my tablet so the line arent exacly strait ;D
Backup capacitor for the M-Lock ... the monster is a really hard bike to start so the battery as a a big voltage drop when you press start ..... I've been using the M-lock for a couple of months now and on occasion .. the electronic would shut down while trying to start. The backup capacitor will prevent that. I got my immobilizer sorted (the shop just had to redo it) so now my stock gauges are off, the bike runs, and I just put an order in for the motoscope tiny. I hope to get it delivered and wired up before winter, I think the diagram will be a big help.
Did you consider using one of the spare warning lights as a low fuel indicator? Not that the stock one works properly anyway.

They say to use a resistor, which I have tried. But no joy
I also tried a variable resistor (potentiometer) to try and dial in the correct resistance, still no joy.

After a first trial a couple month ago I fugure out a couple of desing "flaws"...
The loom was working properly but it didint add the"professionnal finish" that I add in mind
So I put it in a box . That just a "first draft" of the box just to get the proportion/desing whrigt . The pupose of the box is that I dont want anything to come in contact whit the wires to reduce the risk of short... and it looks cleaner

After trials and errors ... the best place to put it is at the back under the seat where the old fuse box used to be.... it's important to keep it away from the heat of the motor.....
the wires will pass into the frame to go all the way up front just behind the stering
I use their sensor , I've empy out the gearing that was in the original speedo at the weel... drill a hole in the speedo spacer... and fit the motogadget sensor in it ... And put sillicon on top so it's all sealled
I'll take a few photos today ... but after using that speedo for a couple of months I really works nicelly
The funiest thing is that one of my friend bougth the motorsope tiny... he as a monster and he ask a guy that is cutomising is bike ( I wont name him, ha has a reputation in Quebec ) said that it was imposible to put the speedo at front weel becose ther was no place for it .... my friend said ok and they put the speedo at the back weel... [roll]..
You sould have seen the face of my frind when he saw that I did it and the well known customiser guy coudnt [laugh] ;D

The magnets hare place in one of the brake disk bolts ..the hole fits just whrigth... I've put 2 magnets on top of one another to get the whrigth distance so the sensor could pick up the signal

Yes , tha magnet fit just whrigth I did enven add to put some epoxy glue on them [thumbsup] they wont budge from there!!!

All the wiring whit the connectors are tuck away under the m-unit
There will be 5 wires that will come out of it
1-ignition
2- battery +and -
3- front headlight/ signals
4- tail ligth / signals
5- motorscope tiny wire
I've made all the soldering , Y connections , 1A fuses, M-lock backup capacitor are in the box. At this point it's almost plug and play :D

For the disk brake I'll take a big magnet . There not glued there so they can move . They will stick to the big magnet when I'll put it in front ... tried and tested

A 82 Ohms, 5w resistor.... it seams that Ducati usally use a reserve indicator base on a thermistor...

Did you end up using those Deutch connectors for those speedometer wires or did you solder directly to the loom, ie hardwired to the bike and not removable?
How are the deutch connectors otherwise in terms of being weatherproof, etc? I was thinking of cleaning up some connections behind my headlight now that it will be more exposed behind this little speedometer, so I'm looking for smaller connectors and to remove what is no longer needed.

I've solder the tiny , tiny .... well very tiny wire's from the motoscope to some bigger wire's after that I've crimp them to used a Deutch connector. 'I've put a rubber protector over the soldered wires. After that, from the conecctor ....I've soldered some Y connections to the original loom

Deutch connectors are not that big I've sean bigger type of connectors and smaller ones to ... but tje Deutch arr easy to work whit. There's a couple of good vids on You tube that describe how to use them [thumbsup]
Thanks for the helpful tips and pics. I got started yesterday after studying and drawing out the wiring for a bit. I'm no electrician so that took awhile. First step was to change the stock triple clamp, get rid of the old gauges and the resistors on the LEDs that I no longer need thanks to the m-flash. Once I get the flashers working again I've got to cut a bracket for the tiny speedo.
Since I'm not changing the whole loom as you did I need to clean up some wires behind the headlights cuz they're no longer going to be hidden behind gigantic gauges.

For the moment I've tuck most of the wires behind the stering stem between the air box
Since I never used the switch your left index finger reaches on the backside of the switchgear for the headlight flasher
("your bright lights are on idiot!" switch), I used that for the function switch for my motoscope. It failed eventually so I run a baby toggle next to dash.

than my husband enterd the room and said " You migth as well redoo the head and change your old piston rings"....... In my opinion he was tired of riding whit me and breathing the distinctive puff of smoke and the burn oil smell fragrence of my bike ..... [laugh]

Step 2
After figuring out how mutch wire is needed. I've put some protective sleeving on the middle section of the loom before puting all the connectors .... its a lot easyer that way [popcorn]
Once everyting is setup I'll take out the original loom at the last minute .... keep the old loom as a "just in case .. ;D"

ahh. I just made my order for some wire yesterday. I went with Teflon over PVC or Silicone for durability and size. Im using the following
(16AWG) 35W HID headlight
(18AWG) for every other lights ( i have all LEDS all around)
(20AWG) for relay switch side.
Basically my plan was to power key and use it as a switch to unlock the M unit, which then the AUX output is used to power a relay that allows current to flow from the battery to the fuse box. From there i distribute the power out to ECU and EFI system. The rest is taken care of by the M unit. Everything I own is LED, so the current draw is very minimal, hence the most important thing to me is the durability of the wire coating which is why i went teflon. (its also thinner by far compared to Silicone and PVC).
Looks like you have a tidy wire setup. Let us know how it goes! Where did u order ur M UNIT from anyway? i havent bought mine.

Using the existing key is a good idea .... since you will still need the stering lock ..... I have the M-Lock ... but I still neede the stering lock .. [bang]..... I'm tring to convice myself that the M-Lock is cool to justifie the 200$ spent on it [roll]
As for the size of the wire I've could used smaller wires ...
I got the M-Unit from germany from the motogadget site ...... it took 1 month to get it !!!!
You can order it from Revival cycles instead .... top notch services these guy's are great [thumbsup]

did you find any wires with black soot on yours? my injector wire and starter button wires were black!!!
I have a carby one .... so no black soot in the loom ...... but de cumbustion chamber and the pistons are another story [laugh]

The rear part of the loom is complete.
The baterry cable is on. I've put a rubber (taken from an old spark plug cable rubber ) ...on the 12v bolt of the battery to prevent any short. ...
All the M-Unit connection are intalled .... all the grounds are bolterd under the original fuse braket so it looks more clean.
One of the problem of the M-Unit is the connection points . The wire have a tendency to get loose. So I've put a wire older betwen the M-Unit and the Deutch connector.
When everyting is gona be complete 'I'll take some electronic purpose sillicone or somthing like that to insulate all the conneting bolts on the M-Unit .... again to prevent any shorts ont all the +12v and also the prentent any screws to get loose.

I add to change plans.
After testing everyting I found that the M-Unit was hot after 30 minutes or so.... I'ts a sign if bad grounds.
I've made another bracket made out of steel (actually my husband did ) because the original bracket of the fuse box is made of alluminium and the wires that have made where not sufficient to properly ground the M-Unit.
The M-Unit has holes for the bolts that have to be direclly grounded to the frame. I took the paint off the brackets on the frame and I bolted a L shape bracket

I've done the horizontal cilynder and it's superb.
But I've begin the vertical head. I've shim the intake properly but the cams do not turn over completely. Even when I push direcly on the valve it seam to block.... there's some sort of mecanical unterference
When theres no shims the cam turn over completely whitout blocking but the second I put shims on it just block when I try to turn it ??
My guess....
Unproper rebuild order?
Starting whit the wrong valve intake -first or exaust first?
Unproper shims ( closing shim to spec but just to big... to high in my words) ?
Is there a starting point for the cams (point if reference ) to start the process ?
Half rings (chanel lock for the valves) seated but on the wrong side .... if theres a side ?

All the half rings are new
On the horizontal cylinder yess.... but since I lap the valves I add to miss match them to get them to fit ... I also bougth a few...
Try assembling with just the closer shim on one valve, and all rockers in position.
Confirm closer clearance, and easy cam rotation for a full 360 degrees.
Then do the opener shim on that valve.
Repeat until done.
Sometimes the half rings will jam in the closer shim, and not seat all the way.
Usually that's an issue only with 7mm closer shims.
Some of the newly manufactured half rings have a burr on one end from the cutting operation.
Inspect closely and dress off the burr as necessary.

With all new half-rings replacing worn ones, that will reduce your closer clearance all by itself.
How much reduced depends how worn the old ones were.
Lapping the valves increases closer clearance.
So for shims you're pretty much starting from something fairly close to the ones you had before.

Now to my next problem I've order the rings for the high comp piston from JE . Also, I want to order the rigth set of pistons .... doe's someone have the JE part number ?
I will look at a JE box tomorrow. I saw the piston kit on the JE site recently msrked for Ducati 904cc.

Tanks, I've read somewhere there was some ping issues but I did not look into it .
For now I'll have to wait for a month or two to have the money to get the pistons ...... I'll lost almost all the bike season .... Montreal -Canada... yess it's snows here in the winter....

You can retard the ignition at the pick up coils or use an Ignitech and programme a map. It is easy to do with the Ignitech software and a lap top. I have map numbers you can use as a base line for the Ignitech.
Oh, and higher compression pistons will generate more heat. So just be mindful of that. Probably not so much of an issue in your cooler, northern climate though.

I didin't botter whit the oil warning ligth ... because yess 99.9999% of the time it's ok.... but from what I know I tink it would take a resistor in order to make it work but I dont know how mutch Ohms it would have to be . I just didin't do the full research on that :-[
I have a 2016 ducati monster 821, I'm swaping my stock gauge with the motoscope mini guage. The bike has 3 different modes, Tour, Ubran, Sport.
Are these modes related to the stock guage in any way, will I lose the capability to switch between these modes with the moto scope guage installed?
