Surely there's a blue ringed equivalent in the oceans around North America??

And what about bears?? We've nothing close to that size!

The bears we have here in the east are as afraid of us as we are of them. Usually a loud shout will send them scampering.

The Brown bears in the west, and the bears in Alaska are problematic...mostly because they've become accustomed to people due to raiding campsites for food.

Bears are warm, cuddly creatures.  Look at the derivatives...

Bear hug...  a good thing.

Teddy bears...  a comforting thing parents give to children.  Would a parent give their child a depiction of a terrifying, mutulating beast?

How many have you come across many in your time?

Do bears have a chase instinct? If you turn and run, can you expect them to be bounding after you? I'm thinking of that old joke of the two soldiers and a bear!

I've not seen teddy bears with 10cm long claws. I don't suppose they'd sell too well! 😆

Seeing a lot more bears around here lately.  They don't bother me.  It is wise to not encroach on their personal space. :-\

(When I have seen a cub and not mamma, been far more effective than a handful of Exlax.)

I've come face to face with black bears twice. The first time we both ran... :P

The second time T and I were hiking and were near a sugarbush...an area that maple sap is harvested for syrup...the bear was there to tear up the tubing and gather some sap for himself. T wanted to run, but we stood close to each other and waved our arms and shouted, as he was moving towards us. He stopped, and took a right turn through a field and out of danger. By standing together we became twice as big as he was, and he didn't feel like messing with us.

Running is not recommended. Black bears are relatively harmless, unless it's a sow with a cub. You don't want to come between mama and her baby. If you come across a brown bear you had better be armed, and not with anything small like a 9mm. That would only serve to piss off a big brown bear.
