Apparently 3rd cousins are genetically indistinguishable from each other. So that's safe.

2nd cousins are almost genetically indistinguishable from each other. Again, safe.

Even first cousins are relatively safe. I think the advisement there is don't make a generational habit of interbreeding with your cousins.

And yeah, I had a hot 3rd cousin; we even had some chemistry. But she had the same rare last name that I have, so that pretty much creeped me the hell out.
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

I come from a state with a land area larger than many countries that was settled by only 135 families. EVERYONE there is my cousin. So I just stayed away from dating anyone with a remotely Spanish-sounding last name. Especially after I found out that my parents were related when I saw my family trees merge in the 1700's (scary, and explains far too much of my family).

Sounds familiar, my great, great, grandfather was one of the founding families of Albuquerque, I think my grandparents were first or second cousins.

By 3rd cousin you mean cousin 3 times removed? Like, grandfather's cousin's son's daughter? I'd say that's relatively far from your blood line but I probably still wouldn't do it.

The term removed means how many generations are between the two and the number before indicates the number of minimum (that's key) generations between either cousin and the nearest common ancestor.  So, if you share an ancestor with anyone who has that ancestor as their Grandparent, then you are first cousins with them.

A 3rd cousin has the same great-great grandparents as you and is in the same generation, such as your great grandfathers's sisters son's son's son.

A 3rd cousin twice removed means your great-great grandparents are their great x 4 grandparents.

Your example, a grandfather's cousin's son's daughter is simply (yea right) your great granfather's brother's son's son's daughter.  So, that is a third cousin.

This shit is confusing.  I hope he isn't try to do a cousin more than once removed (hopefully not removed at all).

Don't you mean completely distinguishable and mostly distinguishable?   :P  If they're indistinguishable, doesn't that mean they genetically the same or am I misinterpreting this?

Hmmm... I think I get it....
The #cousin is how many families away they are... sorta. And the # removed is the generation gap.
So my cousin's daughter is... my cousin once removed.

Interesting. I've been confused about those terms for a long time and am now slightly less confused about it. Thank you.
