Unfortunately, a few bad cops ruin the image for a vast majority of good ones.  Spending four years in a college town caused me to lose all respect for city police.  Although, I don't hold State Troopers / Highway Patrol to the same stereotype.  I have found they are generally respectful if you are.

Let's not get this thread started down that path.

Thank you.
It's still buy a flounder a drink month

I currently try to ride a speed I'm comfortable with and that doesn't necessarily mean 120 on the straights but it might mean 80 -100 most of the time .

Sorry if this has been covered already.  I haven't read the three or four pages of this thread since last night.

I don't see 80-100 as a useful speed for the street.  That's just me.  It's too fast to have safe fun in the turns, way above the speed limit on slab or straight up n' down, and not fast enough so that you get that "Woohooo! I'm gonna kill myself" feeling of doing triple digits.  I pretty much always keep it under 80 unless I decide I need to do 110 or more (like when I went 140 on my 620 while gettin' a BJ from Paris Hilton).  Cuz if I get a ticket for 83 or 91 or some other speed that is neither fast nor slow, I'm gonna be really pissed.

On really long trips I might cruise at 85 on a 75 mph highway nut not much more. The acceleration is more exilerating than the top speed anyhow. (except that time at 140 on my old 620 getting a BJ from Paris Hilton while her sister Nicky Hilton watched, beat that)

That's my same rule.  No more than +10 over the speed limit when its not twisties (or City street hooliganism  ;D).  We just don't have any 75mph areas around here.

I once got a BJ from Randall while he told me about the time he had a threesome with the Hiltons (with the sisters goin' down on each other of course) at 620mph on a 140cc Ducati.  Then we did 2g1c at Mach 3 on a Huffy.  What you got?

So I first checked this thread when it was one page, wow!

So first, thanks to the OP!  Got me off my duff to get the radar detector configured on my Duc.  Been riding / driving with one forever, just hadn't got around to putting it on the Duc yet.

Second, someone commented on a perceived increase in LEO stopping and citing, no warnings.  Today I observed a few vehicles stopped near my office building, not sure what happened but been there 2 yrs and never seen that level of activity before.

And third, to those that keep it under 80?  Ya'll need to have a go at the Midwest (MN here) where you are looking at a big ol' long haul to get to decent riding.  Try I 94 across ND and MT in the summer.  Not much going on til you're out near Billings.

Popeye the Sailor

When I'm riding through the twisties, I like to remind myself of the fact that there could be a goddamn deer walking into the street 5 feet in front of me at any time.

That serves to keep speed to where it *should* be.

Riding hard is for the track.

Because you realize even though you think you are faster than light on the street you see you are really soooooo slow once on the track.     And that level of corner speed and acceleration is addicting.   And not having trees and curbs and cars (or walls) to hit makes it even more fun.

And then you see it is impossible to do that on the street even if you wanted to....so the street speed, which is now just mediocre anyway, isn't as fun.  So you slow down a notch.

I've had some great and memorable rides in the last twenty years....  But nothing has been more fun in terms of just motorcycle control and speed as getting on the track in the last couple years.   Now the street is enjoyable for other reasons.....just like driving a performance car would still be fun.
I dig what you are saying about getting addicted to the track speed which would be faster than on the " street " so to speak.

So does your street speed just seem slower compared to your track speed ........or

how fast ( if you were riding alone out in the Forest ) would you be riding if the traffic is on the light side , the roads are good, lots of curves and sweepers, how fast in relation to the speed limit  would you be riding ?

You will be riding about 100 miles of roads like this .     Dolph
