American Express FTW!!  [bacon]

Negative, ghost writer.

My brother used his AMEX to pay for a spa trip for his wife to the tune of ~$500. No problems.

He tried to use it to buy a $10 Metrocard at an NYC subway station. Card disables because of "suspicious activity."

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

I carry 3-4 cards when I travel, especially to Europe. No matter how many time I call to say "Yes, it's me using it, I am in (City/Country name), please quit declining my charges" I still end up getting denied all the time.  I even call before I go. No effect what so ever. Cash machines help but you end up paying a ton in fees.

Well from FHE, I've had ZERO problems with mine. Small and large purchases, all the same.

I used my Credit Union Visa all the time in Italy.  I called them before I left, and no problems what so ever.  Never declined, even when I used it 2-5 times a day.

I can understand your frustration though.  The idea of paying at the pump is the convenience factor (and not getting stupid questions when you walk into the gas station in full moto gear).

I've had a credit card stolen...and they racked up a couple hundred buck charges at gas stations within an hour.

my bank keeps locking my business card for making purchases in foreign countries.
I tried to give them a list of the 3-4 places i buy from...no dice.
reason-England, Italy, and Germany are 'countries with a high risk of fraud'.

I always carry three credit cards just because, well, you never know, things happen.  Yes, your credit card company is ridiculous and you are rightfully pissed off since their policy could have left you stranded.  In some rural parts of the US I would consider this policy a threat to safety.  I would say it is letter writing time [thumbsup]

i carry multiple as well. use discover where i can because i get the most cash back, but the thing is, some places don't take it  - so I have a back up. The back up is also handy in case something horrendous happens, like the transmission falls out of the tahoe and I'm in the middle of nowhere. you're gonna need "money", and the back up card has nothing on it yet.

MrFryMoto

it seems like everytime i take a moto trip my card gets put on hold - but i get a call from my bank when they do it to verify i still have the card and it is me using it - then they release the hold.
...just bragging  [cheeky]

always bring hidden cash stash on trip.

I got locked out of my card for buying a metrocard once ( i also live in NYC) it makes no sense. I dont know what causes them to raise a flag, but whatever it is, its retarded.  I carry my debit, AMEX and a mastercard. Ive had all but my amex locked. I got locked out at a hat store and once at home depot. Its annoying as hell. But as MrFry says, always carry cash. I try to have atleast 10 bucks on me at any given time (actually its the law in NYC to carry $5 and photo ID) in case i need fuel or food.

If you do need to steal food, yogurt and fruit is you're friend. :P

It's not a debit card an they wont waive it. I already asked.

I have one other card but I don't carry it. Never needed to. Visa never did this to me before.

Pissed.

Huh?

In much of the country, no ID, not enough money and you are a vagrant.

Since you don't look like a vagrant, I would not worry about it.
