I once lost my rear end....because I was in the process of losing my rear axle:
Turns out the guys at the shop where I'd had a new tire mounted didn't "quite" torque the axle nut
...and ScottieDucati once lost a girlfriend when he popped an excellent wheelie forgetting the crucial fact that the bike did not yet have passenger pegs, or maybe he forgot I was back there, either way, it hurt
You went out with Scottie?

I lost a cell phone out of my pocket. It went bouncing. Didn't know I dropped it until three miles later. Found it open, face down in the double line. Working fine.

I lost my left "bar end weight thingy" three times last week
First time I felt it hit my leg, and turned around to pick it up. Second time I noticed it missing, and I had a general idea where it could've fallen off. I pulled over to look for it, and presto, there is was! Swearing this was never going to happen again, I degreased it and really tightened the nut on the end. Next day I went out for a ride. When I pulled over for a cup of coffee, I noticed it was gone for the third time! And never to be found again!
I guess after reading your stories, it's not that bad! Thanks a bunch

Not me, but about the most heartbreaking loss I've heard about was the guy who was the first to cross the Darien Gap on a bike. He was somewhere South of the gap and I think actually on pavement again when he discovered one of the saddlebags on BMW R800GS had broken off and gone missing, along with all his camera film of the trip (this was well before digital cameras). He backtracked but never found his luggage or his film.

I lost my handwritten directions to a party. I rode an hour to the town, then was going to get my directions out and they were gone. I had them in a breast pocket, I guess the wind snagged them out. No cell phone, the number was written with the directions... I missed the party
but it was a good ride

Yup, I owe for doing all the work of getting her into Ducs. I would have never met her if it wasn't for him
