Yeah, we all agree. Let's cool it. Guns and dogs are great. No question. Let's stick with guns on this thread. In your possession or stolen... but guns. It's a given, dogs are a blessing. Their good people. [thumbsup]

Gun stuff... ;D

Thanks!
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

OK-

One that didn't get taken is a 50s K-frame S&W 38. For a short time, Dad was in law enforcement. The Smith was his service revolver. It has genuine stag grips. It's not perfect, as it was used, but it sure is pretty.

I'll try to take a pic...   you'll like it-

polyticks?

Very shortly I'm going to arm the wife with a P99

any arguments for or against? (the gun, not arming the wife)

I assume it's the Walther. Ya can't go wrong with a Walther...

.40 is a kicker, though-

Is your wife a shooter?

For home defense?  I'd favor the simplest thing you can find, like a stainless steel hammerless .38.

she's a better pistol shot than I am

Doesn't like my .40 though, it kicks a bit too much

I figure the Walther in 9mm will be just fine and she like the grip

Also I believe I read somewhere that the P99 isn't offered in .40

only the SW99 but I don't know who is manufacturing what in that marriage

I remember that the S&W glock knockoff didn't go so well legally so I imagine the S&W/Walther is a bit more organized

If you're interested in selling it, send me some details and I'll discuss it with the chica.  What don't you like about it?

Oh, I thought the p99 was .40 these days... ...and .40 is a kicker...

9mm is an excellent personal protection round. It's easy to control, and mag capacity is good.

I'll offer this:

Heavy firearms recoil less and are far more "sure" in the hand.
Mag capacity is a powerful thing to have on your side.

My current wife doesn't even want to see or touch a gun. [bang] My ex-wife liked the idea of having one in her night stand for when I was gone. We went through some trials with different small framed autos in .380 and 9mm (she was only 5' 2" at the most and had small hands) to no avail. She could never get the hang of magazine changes, racking the slide, clearing jams, etc. All the stuff I would HAVE to know she could handle at 3:00AM in the dark while in a sleepy/startled state of mind.

So I dropped back and punted. I let her try my Weigand slicked up S&W K frame, round butt, .357mag model 65 with 3" barrel. It was the old FBI carry piece in the good old wheel gun days. Simple, stainless, medium length barrel and fixed sights. Mine was made magical by Weigand. It had a trigger that redefined melted butter, bobbed and polished hammer for double action only, chamfered cylinder, crane lock and standard Hogue grips. Bingo! She loved it!!

Well I loved it too. It was (and still is!... that and my Pythons)) one of my all time favorite wheel guns. She couldn't have mine but with all the law enforcement trade ins (everyone going hi-cap 9mm at the time) it was super easy to find dozens of rebuilt 65s everywhere. I got to choose from the pick of the litter and had the local S&W warranty dealership go through it, bob the hammer, slick it a little and check the timing. Basic stuff. It turned out great!! Put the same Hogues on it and she was a happy camper.

It lived happily ever after in her night stand loaded with Corbon .38spl+P along with a Surfire and 2 HKS speed loaders. Probably still does... I hope. Just lucky she didn't use it on me during our divorce. [laugh] I had dummy snap caps and would test her occasionally and would drag her along to the range for some live fire.

Don't ever think a well armed revolver shooter who knows their gun can't handle a confrontation. You don't always NEED a hi-cap auto, 99.9% of the time a good wheel gun and a well trained shooter are just fine. [thumbsup] Keep it simple. ;D

I have a S&W M13 which is the blued version of the 65.  3" round butt.  Its my favorite wheelgun - everything you need and nothing you don't.

This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

fastwin

Agreed. [thumbsup] I have two model 19s, a 4" and a 2.5". Not as groovy as my 65, both are stock. Square 4", round 2.5". Wonderful medium size wheel guns indeed. ;) Since I was a kid my Dad kept his 2.5" 19 in the glove box of every car/truck he owned and drove. My older brother wanted it when Dad passed. I'm sure one of his boys will get it some day.

I have half a dozen j frames stashed around.  Mrs ducatizzy is only comfortable with a wheelgun and keeping the same load and setup will reduce confusion later.
