I used to shoot .22LR for the rifle team at my high school (they ended up taking the rifles and replacing them with pellet guns during my sophomore year)... 22's are fun little guns with all kinds of uses.  Not a bad idea/way to get yourself into shooting rifles.  I consider it on par with buying a beater bike to learn how to ride.  They're relatively inexpensive, have minimal kick, and  are fun to shoot.

Ryan, one thing to keep in mind is that 10/22s are/were almost eclusively chambered in .22LR. Did Ruger ever produce in in .22WMR?
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

.22 mag is a great little round but it is expensive for what it is. My friend has a bolt action rifle chambered in .22 mag (a CZ I think??) and that is his turkey gun. Head shots work great. [thumbsup] I have a Win 94 chambered in .22 mag and a bolt action/mag fed Anchutz I got from my Dad. Haven't fired either in years. Just too $$$ for what it does. If it was half the price I'd shoot the shit out of it! ;D
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

.22mag ammo runs 10-12 bucks for 50

Shooting one for a day is cheaper than dinner and a movie

This is my CZ452 in 22WMR it is is deadly accurate with Hornady rounds

and yes the scope clears the sight by about 1/32 of an inch

$12 for a box of 50?!  :o   I remember when I took the Springfield (that I found) to the range, a box of 20 .45-70 was like $25.  :P  That was in '03 if I remember right.

So, should I get my friend's Ruger?   What should I expect to pay? We didn't talk $$$, he was just mentioning he wanted to sell it...

Are there better .22 WMR's out there, deal wise?

if you want the gun

buy the gun

buy it to use it

how much it costs initially

and

how much it costs to run it

is the price for enjoying it

if you are getting it because it is a deal and you want the deal more than you want the gun

dont buy it
