Come to AL and I'll show you why. I promise it's you, not the gun.

Agreed, I know it is me.
Other than going all the way to AL, what else would you recommend?

Took a good look at a Springfield 1911 Range Officer at my local shop.  Seems like a nice pistol for the money.  They're looking for $820 for a new one.

Anyone have any experience with this particular model 1911?

I like my 1911 and I understand why you want one.  Saw this video and thought of your post.  I see a Glock in my future.

There is really nothing I can do to help you shoot better on the web. Since you can't come here I would search out a 'good' instructor in your area. Send me a PM and I'll give you my phone number, and we can discuss any issues you are having. I do this for a living, and would teach for bread and water.

I saw that today. I wonder if they'll get bought and continue on the way Hostess did.

Sad.  They could have made a boat load if they had started turning out anacondas again.
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

The new AK-12

Interesting updates.  I like the hinged top.  That fixes the wandering rear sight problem on the valmet and gives a long sight radius.  and picatinny all around.

the butt design looks very nice.  gas block looks like a valmet.

The bolt carrier knob is now removable, which reminds me of the Daewoo AR.  I wonder if they came up with a secondary use for it too?

They are rolling it out now.

I gave $275 new for one similar to the second with both the shoulder stock and the pistol grip.  No accessories like the fiber optic sight or shell holder.

I competed in the 19th annual Cooper Firearms One-Shot competition last week and I can say that my new-to-me 6mm PPC is a humdinger.

For those not familiar with it, the Cooper One-Shot competition allows only one shot at a 1/4 inch dot placed on an original painting at 150 yards.  The competition is held at a range near Hamilton, MT not far from the small Cooper "factory" in Stevensville.  They put paper pasters over the target area on the painting for each shooter so everyone has a clean shot and the score is measured on the shooter's paster rather than the painting itself.  The shooter coming closest to the dot wins the painting and the two closest shooters for each painting (there were 7 paintings with 5 or 6 shooters per painting) advance to a second round, again with one shot - this time at a paper target.  The best shot in the second round wins the grand prize - a new Cooper rifle.  You have to be shooting a Cooper and more or less typical bench rest rules apply except you only get one shot and no sighters.  It's Cooper's 25th anniversary so it was kind of special this year.  There were about 40 shooters from all over.

Here's a link:

Nobody likes a show-off but I'll share a few photos of this years competition.

Here are the paintings before the shoot.  You can see the target circles drawn on each painting.

The grand prize was the beautiful Cooper 25th anniversary limited edition .223 in the back - only 25 were produced.  The front rifle is a raffle prize.

After the morning sight-in, there were some money shoots where you pay $10 to take one shot at each of two targets per round.  The closest shooter in each round gets the pot.  I won some cash in two of the rounds I entered.  These money shoots allow you to get familiar with the range conditions and different bench positions before the painting shoot.  Here's a shot during a money shoot.  The kid in the foreground was being coached by his dad and ended up winning a painting in some pretty stiff competition.

A few of the rifles.

Here are a few shots of the set up for the painting shoot.

From the bench, a 1/4" dot looks pretty small at 150 yards.

After the match, Cooper sponsors a great dinner (huge steaks and crab legs with drinks) at the historic Marcus Daly mansion in Hamilton.  Marcus Daly was one of the Butte "Copper Kings" in it's heyday.  Hugo Vivero, Cooper CEO, announces the days winners.

Here's a shot of my new painting.   ;D ;D ;D

Close-up of the bullet holes in the painting.  Some real close ones there.  The outside one is still a good shot and was actually shot by a winner from last year.

Here's a shot of my paster target from the painting shot (top) and my rifle shoot target from the second round (bottom).  I was closest on my painting and just a bit off (third closest I was told) in the second-round rifle shoot.

This is a fun and unique competition with great participants and sponsored by an exceptional company. I can't say enough good things about Cooper.   [thumbsup]
