Found some CCI .22lr in 100 rnd boxes on Natchez's website last week. Limit 5 boxes a day per customer. Went back the next day to order some more... all gone! Damn high prices too. Freaking "brick" of 500 rnds cost near $50!! [bang] But I had to do it. Haven't seen any locally in months.

Stopped by the Academy Sporting Goods store last week. They actually had some .45 Colt in stock so I grabbed two boxes. Asked about .22lr and was shown a sign that stated if you want any .22lr, pistol/revolver or .223 ammo you are limited to one box and you have to go to the Customer Service desk and ask for it. I asked "why Customer Service"? The associate at the gun counter said they were tired of people coming in every day, all day long asking about ammo they didn't have then getting pissed about it. He said "screw 'em, let Customer Service put up with the headaches".

Oh... and they didn't have any .22lr at Customer Service! [roll]

Anybody here build a custom 10/22?

I have several bigger "toys", but need to build a varmint population control tool.

Want to build a 10/22 with a heavy barrel, thumbhole target stock with custom length-of-pull extension (to better fit my freakish lanky frame), and scope.  Debating whether to buy a whole Ruger 10/22 then tear it apart for the receiver, or just buy an aftermarket receiver and build it from scratch.  Options include the Select Fire RAZOR (80%), X-Ring, Volquartsen, MOA Corporation stainless, Tactical Machining Elite22, etc.

I have a stainless 10/22 with a bull barrel, Hogue stock and a matching Leupold rimfire scope in stock rings. Shoots great and I have never thought about spending $$$ on a groovy trigger. The stock set up is WELL BROKEN IN so the trigger has a nice clean break. Hits all the critters I aim at if I do my part. No better gun fun on the planet than shooting a good .22! [thumbsup] ;D

I'm in the same boat, I bought 2000 brand new 7.5 swiss cases..  it was a cheap deal too, about a nickel per case.  Of course, that was before you had to have a colonoscopy before boarding a plane.  a bunch of other rounds too.

Someday, I'll get that Dillon press.. lol

You have a Swiss, too?  Cool.  That was one of the big reasons for me to buy the RCBS press setup.  The ability to reload the 7.5x55 brass is comforting.  I love the fact it uses common-as-dirt .308 bullets.

I'm also using the press to get into 300 AAC Blackout.  Have the Noveske barrel for my AR... still need to install it.  Already started prepping .223 cases, though.

Like a boat or beach house, second best thing to owning one is to have a buddy that owns one.  My friend has a macked out dillon with da hoppah!  lol

Not sure if the hopper will work for long cases......

What do you need to do to get 223 cases setup for 300?

I dont think you can stretch the 223 cases to 300 you have to start with unnecked cases iirc.

Sorry to jump off the current topic, I'm just wondering if anyone has any info regarding a "Delay Delivery" notice from the DOJ?

When I went in for the pick-up the salesman gave me a copy of the letter and said the DOJ would notify them, then they would let me know when I could come in to pick up the rifle. He also told me I could be proactive and call the number listed on the letter or I could just hang tight. I called periodically for the first two weeks then I called the dealer back to see if there was any update. The guy I spoke with on the phone gave me attitude (another story) and said I was the one responsible for getting a hold of the DOJ to find out what the issue was. So, I've been calling the number everyday, it's almost always busy and when I do get a ring no one answers. It's now been three weeks with no answer from either side and I'm without a decent sum of money and a rifle.

Has anyone here ever received a delay notice, and/or have any recommendations?

I was at the range and there was a guy shooting 300 made from cut and renecked .223 cases.

300 Blackout case is shorter.

The 300 Whisper/Blackout was formed from the 221 Fireball Cartridge, which is a shortened 222 Rem (or 223).   If you cut off 223's to make a Whisper/Blackout, you probably should anneal the neck area and you will probably have to inside neck ream the formed case as the case walls of the 223 that get formed into the neck of the shorter cartridge are thicker than the neck of the Blackout.  (hope that made sense)  In other words, the bullet won't go in the hole - the outside dimensions of the case will be right, but due to the thicker brass, the inside neck dimension will be too small for the bullet.  Certainly doable, but realize that there will be a couple extra steps.

This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

Would .22 or be better vermin round then .17 hmu?  Is .17 cheaper?

22 is cheaper.  than anything.

.17 is a mostly useless round IMHO.  Yes you get flatter trajectories, etc blah blah with it, but 90% of people shooting can't shoot accurately enough to take advantage of that and most vermin kills are going to be short distances anyhow.

Makes sense to me. ;)

The guy I talked to had no issues with the process.
