They want lead only and 850fps or less.

They're worried about the back stop. Its just a steel plate at a 45* angle.

Im pretty sure my 9mm loads are near 1000fps. I checked the back stop as i worked up the load and there wasn't any damage.

That being said i have looked at the plate and found copper jacketing down in the dust pile.

Somebody is cheating. ;D

The instructor at that rifle class kept a watchful eye on me and my mags making sure I didn't sneak some FMJ in the mix. If I ever did manage to complete the runs without an immediate action drill he'd joke that I must have run than one on ball!! It would get a good laugh out of the class but I knew he wasn't kidding about it. Funny, I was the only shooter that had trouble with the Wolf JHP. A few others had burps and hiccups but nothing like the trouble I had. [bang] I swapped lowers and uppers around, used different mags (some new, some old) but never found the magic solution. Got real good at tap, rack, bang and mag changes though. [thumbsup]

With hand guns: both eyes open or just the dominant eye on the sights?

It's always good to check to see which eye is dominant too.

I've been keeping both open. Right eye and handed.

I find it hard sometimes to focus on bithe sights and target all at once. Usually i fcus on the target and the front sight is sort of IZ_ while the rear is a lot IZ_.

Normal?

Focus on the front sight.

edit...yes it's normal not to be able to focus on all three.

Front sight.... :P

Focus on the front sight.

Yup, that's exactly how gunny taught us as mids to shoot pistols.  Worked for him in the shit, works for me having fun.

Good advice. [thumbsup] Line up your sights, shift your focus to the target, set your aim then shift your focus back to the front sight and keep your focus there. Had many course instructors that would constantly repeat "front sight, front sight" for 2-3 straight days like a mantra. Kinda gave you the impression it was important. ;D

I'm checking around, going to get my CCW.  I had it years ago, but let it expire.

My dilemma:  Show up with my .357 mag and .38 shells (so I can target practice for cheap) and hope the instructor will let me use it like that or grab the small, less accurate .38 with a much shorter barrel?

I wouldn't be concerned, but all the local people are noting "Bullet caliber and gun must exactly match" and "We don't allow students to certify with a .22 caliber pistol because we feel that is inadequate for home defense"

Put a .22 between their eyes.

That will quiet them.  :P

I hope you realize I'm kidding...however shot placement is supreme IMO.

That's just it.  With that antique .22 revolver, I can hit a really nasty patter and 10 yards, much less the 5 and 7.5 NC uses.  Same with the .357 loaded with .38s.  Both are 6" barrel and older than I am by far, maybe even older than Lethe...
