I've spent the last several weeks seeing and hearing his name on TV, but never watching long enough to figure out who they were talking about or why.

Now I know.

I guess knowing is half the battle...

I think giving a shit is the other half.

I find it difficult to imagine what a sports figure does affects me at all so I don't give a shit.

Florida does not have a State income tax .

His $57, 000,000 will be worth a lot more to him there than it would be in either Cleveland or New York ( about $12,000,000 ) .

He won't be the " STAR " on the Miami team w, Wade and the other guy.

He gets $57,000,000 a year...Cleveland will loose $200,000,000 a year now that he's gone.

What one man can do to make the beast with two backs up a city.

Dolph

Oh no, not another person that brings up the tax issue........

1. Having no state income tax only applies to the number of games he plays in Florida
2. You pay and file state tax returns in every state you earn income in. Therefore, if he makes, say 100,000 a game and plays 5 games in Illinois, then he now has a taxable income of 500,000$ in Illinois which he has to file an IL Tax return and pay subsequent state taxes on that amount of money.
3. I had a friend that worked for an accounting firm in college and she did some tax returns for some Colt's players. Said it was a real pain the ass. You have to figure out how many games they played in each state, what the amount of money per game played in that states was, etc etc.
4. His primary residence is in Ohio, therefore, all his endorsement deals won't be state tax exempt unless he has primary legal residence in Florida.

Tax "evasion" if you want to use that word.......is not a viable one in this argument.

He is 25.

Would you live in Cleveland or South Beach?

I don't follow basketball and don't really care much for it but I will chime in  [roll].  The man served his time at Cleveland and he can go wherever he chooses.  Let it go and stop crying about it!  Get over it !

He could have at least thanked the people of Cleveland for 7 years of supporting him.

Outside of that, his decision is his alone and his "business manager" which I believe is one of his friends from high school.

Just who I want managing my millions of dollars.......a 25yr old high school graduate (yes, I realize Bill Gates is a drop out too).

I live less than 3 miles from him. His mansion is huge and required several zoning exceptions (fence height, etc). He's not likely to move his girlfriend and two kids with the nest he's assembled here (at least not permanently). That said, I'm sick to death about the media coverage on this. The local paper (Akron - his real hometown) had 22 separate stories in yesterday's edition.

I'm shocked no one has vandalized the 10 story mural of James across from the arena in Cleveland.

And most people around here are less pissed that he left and more upset with the hour-long "make the beast with two backs you, I'm awesome" special to announce it. I was surprised he kept the Cavs in the dark about his intentions, and then claimed "it's a business" as his rationale.

Shit like this makes me glad I don't bother with basketball at all. I'm a hockey fan. Dan Gilbert owns the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters, which is the only reason I go to that arena.

Wait, what just happened?

My opinion is that no team should be one guy.  If the City of Cleveland really wanted to rise up, they don't need a basketball player to do it.

That's really really funny. I am guessing you have never been to Cleveland or get much news about Cleveland nor do you, most importantly, give a shit.

The People of Cleveland (not all) like things handed to them.........

I'm as big a fan of cults of personality as the next guy, but perhaps it's all for the best if it means you can get rid of a ten-story picture of a basketball player. [roll]
