I don't drive much more than 12-15k a year. Diesel, was better because of payload and towing our soon to be toy hauler....trailer for now. I get 17 mph, hand calculated, around town. My old half ton Chevy was lucky to get that andmi can tow more than 10k lbs than before so shopping for a toy hauler is now....anything we want. I paid 47 out the door fully loaded but diesel was at $4.20 then.
. descent half tons are approaching 40k these days. I did the math and it was about 700/year more expensive for my f250.
I know the "advertised" prices for the Canyon are low but I'll bet you won't want anything under 30k. My parents had the older Canyon with the 5.3'engine and it was a nice city truck plus fit on roads I got yelled out climbing mountains for taking up too much room.

There is no price announced on the US diesel Canyon or Taco as they are not available yet.
The current Tacoma is the oldest model in Toyota's lineup - it was last redesigned in '04 as an '05MY.
If you've seen what the've has been able to do from a pricing standpoint on the majority of it's lineup as it has been refreshed/redesigned over the last 4 years or so, you'll see that they've been able to hold the line on pricing while adding more content. Of course, as you go upmarket, the pricing has risen accordingly.
That being said, the truck still sells exceptionally well with no consumer or dealer incentives whatsoever. Even the used pricing on them is ridiculously strong.

Musk, I hear ya. And diesel totally makes sense the bigger the truck and the more thing you do.
On the Colorado/Canyon, absolutely. I'm not saying I'd touch one under $40k lol, but I'm not everyone.
Rand, I'm sure pricing will be similar on the new Taco, but since the PREVIOUS Taco didn't have a diesel option, we can't really know what a new one might cost if they made it an option (which I don't recall reading they are anyway).

They are not putting an oil burner in the new taco. I didn't care for the tacoma i had for about 2 years. I could not get used to the seating position. Toyota makes a killing on them, no reason to redesign when your competition is more interested in selling 1/2 tons. That changed with the new colorado though, it beat the tacoma in just about every measurable category. I hope the new colorado does well but i don't see the tacoma slowing down either. I'm not sold on the new look for the taco, looks slapped together...

Ouch, that's quite the premium for the diesel.
Comparatively, the MOPAR EcoDiesel is a 2800 upgrade for the 3.0 turbo diesel.

Hmmmm, didn't initially look that far into it. But, I just saw that the lowest price you can get the EcoDiesel is on the Tradesman HFE (it's standard) and starts at $37,200.

And this is an article quoted within the above article which predicts that the above would happen.

Different model.
From Wikipedia
The Toyota Hilux (also stylized as HiLux and historically as Hi-Lux) is a series of pickup trucks produced and marketed by the Japanese manufacturer Toyota. Most countries used the Hilux name for the entire life of the series but in North America, the Hilux name was retired in 1976 in favor of Truck, Pickup Truck, or Compact Truck. In North America the popular option package, the SR5 (Sport Rally 5-Speed), was colloquially used as a model name for the truck, even though the option package was also used on other Toyota models like the Corolla. In 1984, the Toyota Trekker, the camper version of the Hilux, was renamed as the 4Runner in Australia and North America, and as the Hilux Surf in Japan. In 1995, Toyota introduced a new pickup model, the Tacoma in North America, discontinuing the Hilux/Pickup there. The 4Runner is now a full SUV, and the more recent models do not resemble the Tacoma.
As of 2014, the Toyota Hilux is available worldwide, except Japan, United States, Canada, North Korea, South Korea, and India.

Worldwide, except the largest truck market in the world -- US and Canada.
