Johnster unfortunately put himself into this situation by drinking "6 or 7" beers. He blew over the limit and thus broke the law. The limit is there for a reason. We don't know if his driving was impaired. If it was, he was a danger to himself and others. He got lucky.

Cyrus, I feel that your analogy is too broad. It all depends on the person who's drinking and how long the two beers took to drink. You may or may not not blow over the limit. Like I said, the limit is there for a reason.

Bottom line, he drove drunk.

Johnster, just try to learn from the situation and be thankful you didn't hurt yourself or someone else.

I'm not trying say anything about you and your situation, please don't infer judgement. My second DUI probably saved my life. With the court and legal shit and the rest of my life taking a dump on me. It was finally enough to wake me up and get me sober. Again I'm not calling you an alcoholic, just relating my story and wanted to tell you that sometimes the best shit in your life is a result of the worst. Good luck, it sucks, but you'll make it.

BTW, in reference to the poster abovve me. Everyday, everytime I remember that shit I've pulled. Everytime I hear about a drunk driver that killed or hurt someone. I feel an empty pit in my stomache and I say a pray of thank you, becuase it coulda been me. I'm so thankful I got my shit together before that happened.

I have made plenty of mistakes in my life, and I have always faced the consequences of my actions.
I apologise for being short but in my line of work , spending so much time on the roads and seeing so many accidents that need not happen it just never surprises me any more what folks will do.
Here is a prime example..........last week I saw a 1983 or so Dodge weaving down the road.
Mom and dad drinking in the front seat, you know beer cans in brown paper sacks, budweiser cans on the floor etc and smoking and having  a wee baby in the car seat in the back.

Hello 911 this is ...........and I want to report what I think is a drinking driver/open container.

Just be safe guys, the life you save maybe your own, thats all.

Congrats on your sobriety hon. Each day is a step in the right direction. I wish you all the best.

Sounds like you had a cheap lesson. Nobody hurt, no big accident, just some wounded pride, some $$$, and some inconvenience.

Good on you for manning-up and taking responsibility!   [thumbsup]

I don't think my analogy is too broad at all.

Why do you think all states now have .08 blood alcohol levels?

Because that is what the federal government wants.

So, if states don't adopt that limit, then the Feds have said they will stop all federal roadway funding until they do.

It happens. it is the truth.

I am not defending the decision that the poster made.

but I can say the majority of us have driven under conditions where we would be considered legally intoxicated.

But how do you know this? You don't know how many of us drink, you don't know at what rate we drink, and you don't know how each of us is affected by alcohol.

All of us have done some wrong doings in our past,  I myself have been to jail on some pretty harsh charges.  I have since changed my lifestyle and I am happier than ever before.   Just do what you need to do and things will get better.  Live and learn.  And yes be glad you did not hurt anyone or yourself.    Good luck and take care

Sorry John.  Glad you got your "wake up call" without anybody getting hurt.

Why not just make the conscious decision to NEVER drink and drive again? Not even after one beer. Then one beer will never turn into 6.

Consider it done.

And normally I like to think of myself as pretty responsible. I NEVER get on the bike after even one beer. I don't blame you for thinking this, as there's ben plenty of this  [bang]  and this   :'(   going on today.. People do stupid things, as you can see...

Thanks, I really do apreciate it as I'm feeling especially deflated right now. Like I said, I'm not looking for sympathy, I did it to myself and I'm going to roll with the punches, whatever they are. Obviously I still appreciate it though. I like to think I'm a good person, but hey.....good people screw up too I guess..  :-\

Sure did.   :-[

And I am HUGELY thankful that it was a 1-person incident, believe me. I don't know if I could live w/myself having harmed an innocent person while drunk...

Sorry John.  Glad you got your "wake up call" without anybody getting hurt.

Thanks Paula, and that's exactly how I'm trying to view it. I'll let you know how I make out. I really hope I can hang on to my beloved S4, as I don't have too much $$ saved right now... I'm sure she won't mind a year of garage time..

You will be fine, as already said get a lawyer.  If you have a clean record it won't be too bad.

My "incident" was worse  :-[

I won't ask, but glad you got through yours too.

I decided that $2k  of my saved money will go towards a lawyer. Beyond that money wise is when it should start getting interesting.  :-\

Some companies provide legal advice / support (confidential) as a benefit to employees, it might be worth checking to see if yours does.
