This was how far I got with the bottom end:

Not a bad effort .....

Yesterday I managed to get the heads together and shimmed:

I do like the gold on battleship grey.  I like the custom alloy cam wheels better ......

All was going superbly until the barrels were going on and the oil scraper ring on the horizontal piston snapped ......  ffs!

So unless I find a spare one or a cheap set it will cost a small fortune .....

Cheers,

I think these rings will solve your problem:

If i cannot find a replacement ring set for cheap, this is my only option.  With import tax and postage it will still be over £250 for the piston kit.

Bugger it and go for JE hi comp 944 94mm pistons.

I cannot get an email reply from JE Pistons to see if the 944 Pistons will drop into an ST2 without any dramas.

Has anyone done this to an ST2 engine?

Cheers,

I can't say for sure, but I know of more dramas with 92mm/904 barrels that have been bored to 94mm/944 not quite matching the JE 944 pistons. You have every reason to be concerned without the barrels being matched to pistons. Try contacting Fast by Ferracci. They used to sell hi comp pistons for many desmodue models and also sold full 944 kits. They may have info for you that shows the way. What about contacting Sigma Ducati?

Cheers for some more ideas on people to contact.  I will be trying Ducati John in Yorkshire as well, he has played around with custom Ducati's.

Things have started to look up.  I just had a set of secondhand pistons delivered and the best part is they were free.  One has a full set of intact rings and the other is bare.

People are bloody superb sometimes.  I have also been offered a set of Ducati Performance pistons for £110 delivered, what a gift.

Onwards with the project.

The Hi-Comp pictures came through and they look just fine.  With a clean, polish and maybe a trim if they weigh too much.

The pistons arrived:

I do like the difference to the standard ones.  They seem a little heavier than standard so they may have to be trimmed for the balanced crank.

Back on the project on Saturday and the new rubber arrived this afternoon:

190/55 rear and a 120/70 front both for £134.  At that price they had to be worth a shot.
