Excellent combo waytogo
You can programme an Ignitech unit or retard the pick ups 3-4 degrees. The Ignitech is great and lets you even fit a tps and 3D map.

Oh hi again kids, here with a big ole wtf Ducati. Be fore warned, just because it’s on the parts diagram, doesn’t mean it’s right, or even there
So I go to put oil pump on, go to my box of new shiney bits and pieces, pull out my orings, huh............that can’t be right, the aft o ring is supposed to be bigger then the front one. Going to the parts diagram, wtf, same part number for both, ugh. So as I’m scanning other diagrams I notice there is an o ring inside the cases, oh f#!k, I forgot to put it in. Remove all the gears, peel it open............... wait a second................ wtf................ no o ring, ffffffuuuuuuuuuu. Tore open an old case just to make sure, nope, not one there either.
Yay  bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head

So I called Ducati Omaha parts guy, and asked for the part number for the aft oil pump o ring. I sh#t u not, his response, aaahhhhhh.......
It says it’s the same on the parts diagram......... aaaa it is a 20 yr old diagram. So I said, huh, it’s a 20 yr old motor too.

Well, my soul is crushed anyway, wrist pin clip fell into cases and can’t find it with magnet or blowing air into it. Have to take it apart again, wtf, can’t get a break

Watch that bottom one stays put on reassembly. The older cases have it just sit there too. Luckily they are cooked on just nice.

Well, my soul is crushed anyway, wrist pin clip fell into cases and can’t find it with magnet or blowing air into it. Have to take it apart again, wtf, can’t get a break
My worst fear.  bang head You deserve a beer after this one.
With my fat fingers, I have rags around the rods and cases. I've dropped a few, but the rags caught 'em. Clearly you usually dont drop them. Be grateful you dont have to remove a broken cylinder stud, broken flush to the case, a result of bad advice ("that year had good studs"). Sure.

That’s the oil pump o ring.
This motor has no internal o ring.
F#*k beer, I went straight for the tequila
Took it apart unnecessarily based on a ducat type o
Then dropped the clip right after I put I back together, I will learn at some point, lol
I will do the rag thing, derp.

Turn the engine upside down and shake it.

The larger o-ring is 88641321A.  The smaller o-ring was always 938232037, doesn't appear to have changed to an 8864xxxx number as yet.  I have 88640371A listed as the later primary drive cover one, but I'd have to look at it next to the others to see how it varies.  Those 3 numbers are all it could be.  88641321A was 938270114 and that was the change when they enlarged oil holes with the 996 engines in 1997 or so.

If it has the large oil pump outlet you can usually see a mismatch in the size of the outlet and the case inlet.  I get a shallow taper sort of countersink bit and open the inlet in the cases up to the size of the o-ring ID.  There is a steel insert in the aluminum there.  But it makes a mess so that's best a "before you clean it" thing.

That era saw a few variations that didn't always follow parts diagrams, esp in the big block 2V as the small block 2V and 4V mods trickled down / up.   They made changes to the oiling system and moved the pressure relief valve into the pump cover and fitted a drilled screw from the LH side to supply oil into the LH case, but that happened earlier in 900 than the parts catalogues showed as I recall.  You just need to be a bit flexible, but experience helps a lot there.
