I've read about the new 9mm Kimber and was wondering about it. Nice to hear good things about it. Not that I need one but other folks might. [thumbsup]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

I saw an ad for the new Kimber.  I am glad they are trying something other than the 1911 platform.

It seems there are a bunch of sub-compact 9mms out lately:

Ruger LC9
Kimber Solo
Diamondback DB9

The Kahr PM9 is really a "micro" compact now as these guns fit the space between the current single-stack 9mm guns and the super compact size of the PM9 type.

Not to mention the original, the KelTec PF9, which I still think wins on price alone.

Does anyone here subscribe to GunTests?  I hope they do a round-up of all these sub-mid-compacts sometime soon.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

All these micro 9mms are putting the hurt on my mouse gun .380s and .32s! ;D Between those and the Glock 26 I'm more than covered. [thumbsup] Still, nice they are out there for those that may need/want them.

I carried the Keltec P32 for a long time, when the P3AT came out, got one of those.

I've never liked anything less than 9mm for much more than backscratching, but the .380 was sufficient with Corbon rounds.  I am seriously looking at upgrading to one of those 9mm compacts though.

I have a Kahr P9, but it is substantially bigger than the P3AT whereas the PF9 or the new Ruger LC9 is just a tiny bit longer and only a mm or so wider.

It's absurd that such metrics even matter, but I change what I am carrying depending on where I am going and what I'm wearing.

yes and no.  when it comes to caliber, having bigger is better, but the platform, one's ability to conceal it and shoot it are probably more important.

I'm fortunate.

There is no one worth shooting here.

I don't need to carry. [thumbsup]

You and me both! My fav is the Glock 19 but I really like the 26 too. I'm a medium size guy with small/medium size hands and I really like the 26/27 size frame with a finger extention butt plate on the mags. Nice to conceal and packs a decent punch. Prefer the 15 rnd capacity of the 19 but hey, if it can't be done with 10 then you're screwed anyway. [bang]
i have the finger extension on the mag too. & as far as the rnd capacity, i'm in cali, i can only legally use a 10rnd capacity.. like those 5 extra rounds are going to make that much of a difference but whatevs, the law's the law :)

So, my general impressions from the range:

Glock (can't remember what number, compact 9mm) Didn't care for it.  Fired fine, but didn't like how it felt in my hand.  Felt kind of blocky in my hand.

Sig 226:  Really liked this one.  Smoother trigger, very light recoil.  Too big for a conceal carry weapon, but if that is a general impression of how all Sigs fire, I may wind up with one of those.

Didn't get to fire, but liked the feel of (new guns in the showcases:

Kahr P9 - Nice and thin, fit my hand very well.
H&K P30 - Great fill, a bit big for concealed carry though.

All of the standard model SIGs are basically identical except for some dimensions and weight -- i.e. 9mm/40sw vs 45.

I'm surprised you liked the Kahr because I've thought it was a learned taste.  I love the Kahrs but it took me a few months before I was really comfortable -- ah, but you didn't fire it.  The weight is deceptive...

Tell me more about the Kahr, it felt really nice in my hand.  What did you mean about the weight?  Muzzle flip from being lighter?

I hated the p40.  too uncomfortable to shoot which means I wouldn't use it often enough.

The 9 was fine.   Sure it's a tiny little thing but that's the point.   It's not something I'd shoot a few hundred rounds through at the range for fun like the 1911, but 100 through a friend's felt ok.   50 for a quick range trip would be fine.

The 40 jumped like mad.  The 9 snapped but was ok for me.

what he said.

it takes some practice because it's a very light gun.  most people are going to limpwrist the P40 and many will the P9.  what was the clint eastwood film where he had the girl doing wrist exercises?

it's a very light gun and unless you practice and get good wrist control, you will have a hard time being accurate with it, plus limpwristing it will cause stovepipes.

other than that, it is an A+ gun and I highly recommend Kahrs.

You should check out the Ruger LC9, Kimber SOLO, and the other new compact 9s that have just come out lately.  Gun makers have a habit of "borrowing and improving" designs on each other and I like the LC9's slide profile -- rounded and tapered rather than square (like a Kahr or Glock) which makes it easier to draw from inside your clothes.
