OK guys I have two guns I'm thinking of bidding on.  The first is a Romanian High-Capacity AK-47 WASR10 7.62x39 Rifle and the second is a Beretta CX4 in a 9mm configuration.  They are both very different and I have shit tons of Beretta 9mm and 40 clips so the latter I thought would be fun.  I've never owned an AK style gun but for the price of this baby, under 500, I thought why not try it.  Any experience out there?

Ive never handled one but the cx4 is on my want list.

I've shot several Beretta Storm Carbines in 45 ACP and 9mm.  Both guns were very reliable and way more than adequately accurate for what they are.  They are also relatively handy and seem pretty rugged.  I wouldn't feel at all bad owning one.

For me it started when I was interested in a Hipoint .45.  They are a cheap gun (mostly stamped construction i think) but people seemed to love them.

Then I found the CX4.  Better build, uses mags from the 92 so they're common, can be broken down and switched to LH shooter pretty easily (wife is left handed)  Lots more money though.

That's a really neat rifle. Never heard of Galil until now. I just got done reading the wiki. Seems like a tough and reliable firearm [thumbsup]

They are awesome.  Best of the best of the AK design, including the toolless 1-piece gas tube setup and the right-side selector.  Biggest gripe on the AK design is the 19-century selector.

The WASR-10 is a converted low-capacity AK.

Pre-2004, they were being imported with the mag wells not cut out.  CIA or Century or whomever they call themselves created a single-stack magazine design and only sold 10-rd mags so they could be sold in places like CA and NY.

When the AWB expired, they took all the mag-less bodies they had and re-cut them to use regular magazines.

There is no functional difference in them and other Romanian/Cugir-made AKs.

They are called "single hook" trigger AKs because the trigger has only one sear hook and are known for trigger slap -- against the back of your finger when firing.  There are mods to fix that.

They came in several finishes, the most common was a painted on style.

Not a fan of the CX4 but they are decent I have heard.  I like the Cougar, but that's about the only Berretta I like nowadays.

Its like buying a Chinese Harbor Freight tabletop lathe or a Mazak CNC Turning Center.  If you care about the quality and quality of your work and the longevity of your equipment, not to mention pride and confidence in your tools, you know what you will choose.

On the other hand, it's an AK.  It's designed to be built by uneducated communist workers who didn't give a shit, and given to infantry guys who needed their COs behind them with a machine gun pointed at them to stay on the line, and to operate half-assembled with dirt in the action.

AK:  When you absolutely, positively need to shoot someone.

I think he was referring to the Hi-Point/Beretta scenario.  :-\

Thanks RAT.

Ducatiz, this is the quote from the website selling the AK "These are not the neutered AK's you'll find elsewhere; these are top of the line, true to military configuration semi-auto AK47's."
I guess I'll be calling them today when they open.  It's Military Gun Supply in Fort Worth that's selling it.  The other consideration is a Russian Saiga AK 47 Rifle IZ 132

Monsterlover, I wont be paying full price because I'm looking at used ones but a dealer nearby did quote me $708.  ;D

The ones I had were the original SAR's....they came with the scope mount assembly pinned on, no threading on the muzzle and no bayonet lug on the front sight assembly

and they did take a double stack mag...although supplied with only a 10 rounder for NYS
This is an insult to the Pez community

Just had to post this one [laugh]

That's about as smart as someone placing a sign outside saying, "My neighbor wants to ban all 62" plasma TV's and surround sound systems! Their house only has BOOKS inside! Out of respect for thier opinions I promise NOT to let them watch movies on MY Magnolia home theater system!"

Hmm. Gee. Which house case then rob while they're not there. That's a tough one.  Nope, I'll go rob the house that only has books.  [roll]

During the hurricane Ike aftermath my dad thought it was cute and that he was deterring something by spray painting shotgun security across a plywood board and putting it in his front yard.  His house was flooded out, so they had to move into an apartment down the road and they still had somethings in the house that were salvageable (not guns).  They were stolen  . . . wait for it . . .  when he wasn't there! OMG what a concept.

As a Libertarian I get and support the 2nd ammendment rights side of it, but advertising what you have inside your house is make the beast with two backsing dumber than a armadillo wearing a pink g-string.
