Holy crap. Paying our employees on time has always been the top priority.

In NY, for manufacturing, it is an old law to pay once a week on Thursday.  I worked a full week and then the next Thursday, no check.  I told them it was ok, figure it out and pay me for 2 weeks the next Thursday. The next week I get 1 week of pay for the previous week. Nothing for the first week. They said that they would cut a check. I said, no, I could wait. Finally on the third week, they got me caught up and did it all correctly.

Yeah, nothing shady, just under performing HR staff. I'm in a battle of wills with the main HR woman over political signs at work.
