Title: Homemade mods
Post by: DesmoDiva on May 07, 2008, 04:18:36 AM
Title says it all.  Mods you have done to your bike for little or no $$$.

Post a picture and a brief description of how the mod was accomplished.

Mod:  sprocket cover

How it was done:  I used a drill press to drill holes at the end of the indentations and cut out the middle material using a scroll saw.  Cleaned up the edges with a file.  Presto!! modded sprocket cover.

Nicely done!  I tried to cut mine and buggered it up.  I should have waited until I was in a patient mood.

I've done a few little things to the monster. in the fall of '05 I got sick and tired of the damn wet weather (and arse!) so made a few 'winterizing mods (http://www.fokust.com/gallery/album182)'.

This is my latest clutch mod. I had a serious problem with rain causing my open clutch to rust, and wear prematurely (My clutch was still silent, like new, but the friction material was gone so it slipped like crazy...). My solution is called "the umbrella." It's my stock clutch cover that I never planned on using again. Well, it's half of it. I just took my trusty dremel and went to town.

It actually works great. My clutch is still mostly open, but now my bike can sit in the rain all day long and the plates never stick together.

Also, taking off belt covers, the windscreen, the part of the tail I "chopped," and the tail cover were obviously free.

Chopped, cored, and painted a set of stocker cans (off a 620) prior to getting my sils:

Used a Dremel to cut the welds on the cap, miter saw to cut about 3" off, rivet gun to close her up, and Dupli-color engine enamel (ceramic, 500-degree, gloss) to paint 'em.

I also did the sprocket cover mod (same as OP except with a router and trim bit):

I'll post a pic when I'm all done, but the things I did with little or no money was:

- painted headlight ring black
- painted headlight brackets black
- took off emissions canister
- put tips on my "udders" and spray painted everything with ceramic paint. ( I orginally had Spark CF cans, but while I was redoing those, I put the "udder" back on ala ICON.  Now, ironically, the udder is staying.

There's a ton of stuff to be done with little or no $.

-Tail chop, custom made the bracket using some thin aluminum.
-Belt covers, modded stock covers off an m800 with cut-out centers and 1/16ths inch lexan plates.
-custom built rear-sets with right side exhaust hanger
-custom exhaust, built with stock 1098s can  (soon to be changed to another custom setup)
-custom chopped/painted stock rear fender
-emissions removal.
-tank and seat cowl rattle-canned
-clutch cover face temporarily rattle-canned to hide rash from previous owner

I think that's about it so far, I'm working on creating a new exhaust and switching up the swingarm as of right now.

Took a hacksaw to my stock windscreen and made a mini bikini-fairing out of it. I also flipped the handlebars upside down. Gives almost the same look and feel as clip-ons, but doesn't cost a penny.

My second mod, was to trim down the rear exhaust hangers. Just cut off the peg, use a little filler, file to shape and paint.
I prefer the unluttered look it gives - no unsightly passengers. ;) Thanks to Jeff H, I got the idea from his elegant classic style 900.(http://i26.tinypic.com/4hxqj9.jpg)

Thank you very much.
I have done some cleaning of oil lines, and wires from the right side since then, also replaced the cylindrical reservoirs for the ones on the Multistrada, when you compare both pictures you will see why. Also lowered the light and instrument panel even more. The new pictures of those changes  will come up on the M.O.M.b.. soon.

Thanks.   [beer]

I had a friend machine shallow pockets into a stock clutch cover, and then I painted it Italian flag style:

I had the same friend machine a license plate holder that I designed:

get ready for the cheapness.  i made my own set of adapters for pod filters.

i used two pvc pipe fittings like the one below,  but i cut them in half so that all im using is the threaded part.  they are smooth on the inside and didnt have any changes in size through the part i was using so i figured it couldnt be too bad.  the size of pvc i used was for 2in pvc pipe on the non threaded end.  i measured the outside diameter of the threads, and found a corresponding k&n filter that fit, and also measured the ammount of room between where they mounted and the bottom of the tank so i could fit the biggest ones possible under there (6 inches).  the part number i used for the filters was ru0620 (im 99% sure)

and how it looks on the bike.

i like the way it sounds.  its a bit louder than the airbox top being cut open, and i can hardly hear the exhaust for a few seconds when i go wide open at lower rpms.  my buddy with a triumph speed triple hates me for the fact that he can hear my intake when hes riding beside me, but cant hear his at all.

This is the triumph rider,

It does not bother me that much since the only time we are side by side is at stop lights or when I stop by and see it on the lift at his shop. Gay night is the only time I see ducati riders going somewhere fast. Nakeds were meant to  be rode by hooligans maybe you should hang out with more triumph riders, then maybe you could grow a set of your own  :P.

Experimenting with tachos:
I did the prototype in the lab, blue LEDs of course.
(http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f168/stephane_david/bike/th_Video03_1-1.jpg) (http://s47.photobucket.com/albums/f168/stephane_david/bike/?action=view&current=Video03_1-1.flv)
came the problem of mounting it:
too damn ugly !
so back to the drawing board with a new idea: where is the clay ?

all primed:

and finished:

if you've already covered it, please just link it.
I just installed some clip ons, and would love to clean up (at least) the top triple.
thanks!

Title: Re: Homemade mods
Post by: Juan on May 22, 2008, 08:07:45 PM
I really can’t take credit for this. It was Stuart, ducstew, idea when he remodeled Waren's bike, sweet looking work.
Any way, all you do is remove the triple off the bike, and get ready to cut the risers. There are many tools you can use to chop the risers, however you will need to grind, and smooth things really well at the end. I believe that is the part where you need to pay attention because you only get one chance to make it look good.
Once the risers are off, you will have the holes that will need to be filled in or simply smooth the edges like I did.
When you are please with your triple all even and nice, get ready to primer it and paint. I used spray primer, and spray paint. About 3 coats of it, and than two more I think of clear coat. Placed the Ducati sticker on and than one more coat of the clear coat.
Take your time, and be prepare to clean a lot of metal dust.
Unfortunately I did not take pictures of the process.

This is the way it looks now, still a little more into it. I removed the clip-ons risers, and replaced the stock master cylinders for the ones on my Multistraday.

Agreed.  Posts like Stef's are why I read this board.

Awesome work. [thumbsup]

As for myself, my favorite homemade mod I've done is the integrated garage door opener I put on my bike.  Not my idea, I stole it from Dietrich and Charlief from TOB (dunno if they're here or not), but damn is it useful.

This is a cool thread. On another forum I check periodically they have a $50 mod thread that is a sticky. There are some cool things here. Maybe we could sticky this and put a $50 or some other max amount on the mods too.

But damn if this thread doesn't have me wanting to do more mods!  This weekend, I'm going to machine some custom frame plugs, I have an idea that I haven't seen anyone do yet.  [thumbsup]

I wanted to chop/core my cans, but I can't seem to find any info on my year 750's cans other than some vague references to them not being coreable??

Also, I'm leaving the reflectors on just to make the beast with two backs with y'all!  [evil]  [laugh]

I posted this a while back, but as its "homemade," I'll repeat it here...

I fabbed a rear brake reservoir from some 1/2" aluminum tubing, extra Rizoma outlets, some o-rings, an M8 aluminum bolt, an adel clamp and some zip ties:

For the outlet, I tapped M7x1.0 threads into the tubing, and for the cap I tapped M8x1.25 threads.  Some Tygon, zip ties, o-rings, adel clamp and viola!
I let it sit overnight and there were no leaks.

If you're careful, you can do the swap without bleeding:

Installed:

Brakes work fine.  The volume of the tubing allows for sufficient amount of fluid, and I left the "reservoir" 2/3 empty to allow for fluid expansion.  This should be fine as I only use the rear brake for low-speed maneuvers, finishing stops and while sitting at traffic signals.

Made a dash out of scrap aluminum, and removed the anodizing and drilled out the center of the Cycle Cat riser caps to fit my buddie's "left over" Rizoma preload adjusters.

I also got a sweet nylon black ARMY motorcycle jacket for Xmas. One sleeve is digi-camo and looks odd to me, so I'm going to attempt to dye that black. I'll let you know how it goes.

Its verry hard work.

If you pull to hard on the fibre you will stretch it to hard and the pattern wil disapear.

I made it from 1 single piese of fibre.
Then 8 layers of hardner.

Sanding about 6 hours!! :(

Then 6 layers of clearcoat.

Custom airbrush

Again 4 layers clearcoat.

Only problem is that carbonfibre contains oxygen.

With the harder you will see little holes in the toplayer.
I have that problem now.

It must harden for some weeks and then again sanding.
Last 5 layers of clearcoat and the tank is 100% finished.

If you buy it its to ugly.

The fibre are al small pieces and you can see that.
This is the original:

Because i have 1 piese i dont have the little squares in the tank.

Its a lot of work , but it will save you about €1250,- thats   $1760.-  !!!!!
Here they cost €2500,- ($3521.-)

Again sorry if i made some spellings faults hahahha

My English typing is nog verry good :(

A123 LiFePo battery.  I bought the cells off ebay, and put them into a holder made by a guy locally.

Then I cleaned up the starter wiring, with 4ga cable.

Easy way to lose a few kilograms.  The stock battery is full of lead!

Back on topic:

I modified my clutch cover (got a scratch/dent for $10 on fleabay) and did a rattle can paint job and came up with this (excuse the bad cell phone pic and dirty bike):

Clutch cover inspired by Juan's bike (my personal fave DMF bike)

It's been about 6 months and has held up well.  VHT gold paint and plain old rustoleum red for the springs.  I just sanded the spring caps to remove the rust and haven't messed with them.  Really need to replace those spring bolts with stainless now...

You'll also notice "dremeled" belt covers.

Yuck - just noticed how dirty my rear brake fluid is...time to bleed/flush!

Today I was curious if it is possible to remove the carbon canister, ugly plastic shroud and re-mount the horn / regulator elsewhere using only parts that are already on the bike. I ended up buying a couple of bolts (and used some three-bond I had around) to block the canister inlets on the throttle bodies, but otherwise was completely successful. It's not super-pretty, but it worked:

I need to go back and zip-tie the clutch cable in place, and the horn isn't in a useful / pretty spot (regulator is now mounted where the horn was) so I'll need to deal with it too, but I'm pretty pleased.

For the horn I took the horn mount and bent it 90 deg and used the unused  oil cooler mount.

They came stock like that? What year is your Monster if you don't mind me asking...and what size engine

A lot of the mods on my bike are home made. The swing arm was hand made at Norms house. I made the cans and wiring harness. I did the tail chop as well as removing the old computer and gauges. They were replaced with the pre 2002 ignition. Well in short I did all of the work to this bike.Lots of home made mods. ;D

Also can u post a pic from the rider sitting perspective?

I decided to do a little bit of homemade modding myself, I bought a mid-pipe with exhaust valve in it from a local cycle salvage shop and got rid of the Valve assembly.

Here's the unmodded piece:

Here's the pipe after I removed the flapper, I had to cut a slot to get the thing out but a grinder makes everything come off easy.

An Image after welding up the cuts and the 2 holes from the shaft:

Here's the semi finished product:

I don't think its too shabby considering it only took 1 hour of lunch(while I ate my sandwich) and only cost about $80.00. I spent fifty for the mid pipe and 30 for the 308L Stainless fluxcore wire for the mig welder.

Title: Re: Homemade mods

Haven't Installed it yet, got to get the Duc EE ordered. Later plans are the Modded Airbox. Got that off of Ebay for 65, planning on modding the top either like the termi kit or building something akin to What Doworkson had posted on a prior thread. A reflash of the ECU may possibly be needed so I've been looking around for a spare 796 ECU. If this is the case there may also be an additional post of me doing some custom exhaust pipe bending(in a larger than stock size of course- I gotta find out what size and grade of Stainless the termi kit uses).

I was messing around with the Idea of an Air inlet modification and got a cheap part from a Motorcycle recycling/scrap yard to do this(I don't like to mess up my original parts just in case).

The first thing I noticed was this cone in the center of the Air filter, it has it's function but to me it just seemed to be taking up space:

I took it out and made something to eliminate it and to give more room in the filter:

Here's the Installed part:

The bottom is from an oil filter that had a drain plug, it fits perfect on the lower edge of the filter:

I went back to my extra salvage airbox and did a fit check, everything looks ok:

I have plans of either modding the top like the termi Piece or making an alltogether different Part that has been put out here on the forum.

I needed a new left side rearset. The one that broke was black, the used ebay rearset I purchased was painted grey. The paint was peeling and it had some pretty bad oil stains.

So I decided to give em both a brushed aluminum look. Here are the tools I used and as you can see the corner is quite nice.
You must use the wheel and brush the piece in one direction.

ill try to take a better picture if needed.

That brushed look is great - can't wait to see the whole thing.  I wonder if you'll have to spray a clear coat on it to keep it looking good.  I have a feeling that dirt/grease will settle in there and be tough to clean...

Title: Re: Homemade mods
Post by: Monster750ie on September 27, 2011, 08:42:22 AM
The "brush strokes" aren't very deep at all. When you apply the wheel dont put a lot of pressure on the rearset.. just enough to strip the paint and mark the aluminum. You can get the same effect with a sanding block and running the block in a single direction. The wheel is just much faster.

I will take a pic of the rearset tonight and add it to the thread!

I cant imagine it will be all that hard to clean. I just wiped all the paint dust off when I was finished and it was pretty :)

The actual function of that cone is to direct airflow into the air box and prevent turbulence (and the restrictive effects) within the air filter. You have created a high pressure area at the air filter that atmpspheric pressure needs to get through to get into the air box.

All Complete :)

Total cost was around $10, made out of thick sheet metal just cut and bent to the right parameters

Nice tail chop! But now you gotta do something about your wheelbarrow butt.

Skyshadow - I found nice plastic hole plugs at Home Depot that fit perfectly.  Hit them with a little spray paint, a touch of RTV to keep them in there and looks like it came that way from the factory.

Doing the sprocket cover mod gonna paint it red. Also I fabricated a plate to mount my garage door opener on where the left side mirror used to be (since I have bar end mirrors there was just a hole there). Also has anybody made home made passenger pegs I'm gonna figure out a way to do that too

I disabled the ridiculous kickstand switch:

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/4f3Y5Zoa3eI8KxEKRgDZ9tMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink

And I chopped the tail and found these cool, metal plugs for the frame:

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/_kYm-kFe7DbxKp2x8SaYIdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink

I was looking for the black, rubber/plastic plugs with no luck. I found these and actually think I like them better (especially for my frame color).

Next step is getting an integrated taillight/blinker setup.

I installed bar-end mirrors.  There are two rounded plugs used for the handlebar that I took them off and kept them.
When I did my tail-chop and those two plugs fit perfect.

I converted my CF DUCATI Performance rear hugger from a touring model to a "Sport" model.
Took a dremel tool and proceeded to cut off 8" and followed the same basic shape as the original.
Very happy with the end result....much more aggressive & sportier!! [beer]

2002 - 08 Monsters (don't know about '09 - current) have a rubber plug at the back-end of the motor for the single bullet connector to the neutral warning lamp switch.

Ok, so it's a minor mod...  Really minor, but that rubber plug is white.  Dunno why, but after a while they look like sh*t.

Here's the coolness: That white plug is the EXACT same as the motor mount holes in the frame.  Which means, that if you've got an extra black motor mount plug and don't mind cutting the wiring and re-soldering it or re-attaching another bullet connector to the end...  You can put a black plug on that wire.  Yay!

Sorry, no pics just yet...

Fully homemade, TIG welded and lobster back bent exhaust. Just have to pack the muffler, finish my front plate and down pipes then I'll throw it on and see how it sounds.

Haa, no way man. this is a one off, total labor of love. took me damn near 2 weeks after work and on the weekends. Only way I got thru it was lots of dedication and Redbull. lol I finished but of course it's not going on in one piece, but before i cut and flange it I'm going to try taking off the rear sets, kick stand and swing arm to get it to pivot on. Worst part is the X pipe inside the muffler took me so damn long to make, weld, drill holes into and wrap with steel wool and glass... and no one will ever see it!! lol

No, they definitely are not the same length. I bet one have 8" on the other. why, does that effect the tone or flow or something?

Title: Re: Homemade mods

It's going to throw your bike's totally chi out of balance. You'll be lucky if you don't burst into flames the first time you get on the throttle.

It's almost as bad for your bike as having mismatched tires.

Title: Re: Homemade mods

theory is that equal length up until the crossover helps even the pulses or something like that.
you may have to tune out the differences in the cylinders' exhaust routes

I finally got a chance to post some of my at home mod pics so here they are. I wrapped the forks with 1" vinyl (the only size i had at the time) Moved my tall boy clip ons a bit, and removed the cowl plastics with the catchcan. Next thing on the list is to re-paint the cans. The paint flaws are due to the wifes feet rubbing.

get ready for the cheapness.  i made my own set of adapters for pod filters.

i used two pvc pipe fittings like the one below,  but i cut them in half so that all im using is the threaded part.  they are smooth on the inside and didnt have any changes in size through the part i was using so i figured it couldnt be too bad.  the size of pvc i used was for 2in pvc pipe on the non threaded end.  i measured the outside diameter of the threads, and found a corresponding k&n filter that fit, and also measured the ammount of room between where they mounted and the bottom of the tank so i could fit the biggest ones possible under there (6 inches).  the part number i used for the filters was ru0620 (im 99% sure)

and how it looks on the bike.

Back in the days I used to want to use PVC pipes for car cold air intake systems but was always told that PVC fumes are bad for the engine and it will get hot under the hood. If you do stick with PVC male sure it's rated for high heat.

put some pod filters today and modified the air box so that it is just a battery box

I did the same thing on my 99 M900.  Just make sure you make a support for the front of the airbox now that it's supporting all the weight of the battery and ignition components on just the two rear bolts.  I used two tubing clamps which are screwed into the front of the battery box and attach to the horizontal frame tube that is in front of the battery box.

Here it is back together, the zipties on the frame arent really necessary but i tend to go ziptie crazy, also after modifying the harness i wrapped the wires in hockey tape. It looks better than electrical tape IMO and doesnt leave sticky residue or come un done over time

Some of you may remember last fall when this happened:

Resulting in this:

So over the winter I made a new undertray out of some spare diamond tread I had laying around.

Before mounting the new rectifier/voltage regulator, I went ahead and used 3 packages of CPU heat sink compound in the hopes of using the new undertray as a sort of oversized heat sink.

Bolted it up and there she sits.

In the picture above you may also notice a square relay mounted just forward of the ECU. That provides power to the heated grips I installed. To mount the switch, I took some of the leftover diamond tread and made a makeshift dash. I may fashion another one that hides the wires a little better, but this'll work for now.

Hi  :)

Here a little mod that I've been waiting to do for a long time  ;D  I've just bought a dremel so let's cut !!!
A part that I never really like on the monster is the rear seat cowl ...it has those "flange" on the side that doesn't really fallow the line of the bike so after a couple of month looking at it I've decide to "redesign" it
(http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l517/jfran745218/seatcowl1.jpg)

I bought a spare set of OEM rear sets for my M696 off of ebay to mod. I chopped off the passenger pegs & the long part that held them, and then sprayed them in wrinkle black paint. They came out OK, but I wish I would have waited a few more days before installing them. The paint was still soft so there are some blemishes in the finish. Oh well, it only cost me about $45 and I still have my stock set if I ever need them.

I'm sure this has been done many times but here's mine. I have a 3 Car garage one two car garage door and a smaller one car garage door and the Monster gets the single car bay all to itself while the cars share the two door garage bay.  ;D

This means there's a separate garage door opener for the single car garage door. I got sick of coming home, getting off the bike and punching in the garage door code then riding in to the garage so I spray painted my remote control black and velcro mounted it under the tank in front of the airbox behind the forks. Now I can just reach under push the button and open the garage door without getting off my bike. Simple yet efficient.  [Dolph]

Hehe...its the ducati performance fairing I pick up from the forum a while back when I started my mods.
Didn't know what I was getting, when it shipped I was like wtf, but now I like it more than any other fairing.   8)

And...yes sir, I'm putting those clipons on this bike since I have no other bike to put it on hehe...please excuse my sarcasm.   ;D

Thank you for all the comments.

Duckoff...the headlight is morimoto projector retrofitted to the stock bucket, fairing as said above.  There is a lot of discussion about retrofitting and/or go with Kyle option of using trucklite phrash 7 led....it goes on and on.....here the link to the thread.

Can you elaborate on how to do this?

took the measurements for the hole spacing on the plate, hole spacing for the reflector, and how much additional clearance I would need... fab'd the bracket on my break at work, i'll take better pics.

for the safety check plate modding, I did it billy lane style in the garage with tin snips, my hands and knee, a dremel, and a pistol drill.

the plates are cheap at the dealers, and I do kind of want one that's cleaner made, even if nobody ever sees it. if I get off my lazy butt to do it, I'll post pics of that, too

Took a hacksaw to my stock windscreen and made a mini bikini-fairing out of it. I also flipped the handlebars upside down. Gives almost the same look and feel as clip-ons, but doesn't cost a penny.

Flipping is easy.  I cut off the little nubs on the controls so I didn't have to redrill the bars.
I had heard it worked that's why I tried it but maybe it only works on certain models.

I'm a little concerned about what LEO might say... I wasn't until a buddy of mine expressed some concerns and a personal experience of a friend who got a ticket because they had a plate in the cargo area of their car, uncovered.   you can't really see this one until you're on top, err bottom, of the bike and it's clearly not a bike plate so I'm hoping it's OK.

20 gauge shotgun shells are the correct size.  Just go to a skeet or trap shooting range and there should be plenty laying around.  I have them in my frame.  You just need to cut down the plastic a bit to make it fit.

.22 is a rifle/ handgun caliber

If you can't find any just send me a PM and I'll round some up and send them out.

Ahh...wanted to say 20 but glad you clarified that.

do you have it on your side frame? and the tail-chop plugs also? they are the same size?

if that's the case can you put me down for 8? 3 on each side and 2 for the tail-chop.  Thanks!

I just have them in the tail-chop.  If you can verify the sides are the same I'll get 8 for you.
I think the sides are larger though. At least from memory they seem larger to me

Windscreen support brackets for 07 S4RS. I don't like poorducrider's painted brackets so I made my own out of aluminum to match the clutch and break reservoirs' mounting hardware. It took less than 15 minutes to make using a strip aluminum bought from Lowe's for a few bucks.  ;D

Those fairing stays are nice - do they fasten to the reservoir brackets? Tough to tell from the pics. I'm putting this on my list!

Yes, they are bolted to the reservoir brackets' existing holes.

Thanks for the help! There is a range on base, but they do a thorough job cleaning up after every weekend, so I couldn't find anything but a few 12 gauge shells rusting in the garbage can. I'll keep looking though. Living in TX, I assume there should be shotgun shells laying everywhere!
(Just a joke. If any Texans read this, I love Texas and agree it is the greatest country in the world!)

so I went down a couple weeks ago...in the process my headlight bucket (with projector retrofited) got damaged.  Upper fairing did not break due to it's a carbon fiber piece....so to get it back to the way it was

I install the new danmoto gauge, got the dual headlight set up, and install the 769 front fairing.  Here are some pics...

Sad to see that headlight setup go, it looked SICK the way it was! That said, the new look is killer too, and more modern looking (+ or - up to you).

How difficult of a process was this? You mentioned it all in one breath like it took 5 minutes, but usually when I have to deal with wiring or anything electric, I tend to just end up  [bang]

Thanks Fred! Changing things up a bit kinda cool.

And Thanks T for the awesome deal on the fairing as well as the superb shipment & packaging.

About the Danmoto gauge, it took me approx 3 days on and off figuring the wires and mounting the thing.  Fairing easy because the gauge came pre-wired all up inside there so all you need to figure out is which wire from ur stock harness go to which color coded wire from the Danmoto.  I went another route by purchased a crashed stock gauge same year and model of my bike. I savaged the stock piggie tail and connect all the danmoto wire to it....since its the stock pig tail, i can just plug it right into my stock harness of the bike.  Its easy is because my bike doesnt have the iimmobilizer built into the dash....find out if urs do before doing this.

Took about 3 hours to mount the fairing...harder than i thought it would be.

Cored & CF laminated exhaust! I did this in the spring, but didn't want to post about it until I was able to assess whether or not it was a good idea. I fully cored my cans...done properly using a section of perforated pipe, wrapped in stainless mesh then packed with insulation.  I laminated the aluminum sleeves with CF and had all shiny bits...end caps, S pipes, new Spark midpipe, header pieces and heal guards ceramic coated. Finished off the cans with stainless steel strap material that I got from a secret source :)  As for whether or not it was a good idea, my biggest concern was that heat would damage the CF.  After a long summer ride, the cans are still cool enough to touch...not hot at all...and the CF and ceramic still looks like new.  The exhaust sounds awesome and looks great (in my opinion).

Also did the dye job on the belt covers.  They turned out great if I do say so myself! It looks OEM.

A lot of the mods on my bike are home made. The swing arm was hand made at Norms house. I made the cans and wiring harness. I did the tail chop as well as removing the old computer and gauges. They were replaced with the pre 2002 ignition. Well in short I did all of the work to this bike.Lots of home made mods. ;D

a friend of mine used a modified Diavel fender

I seen a few that could have worked but they are short and still allow small stones to rattle around and chip up everything.   My county loves to tar and stone almost every frickin road, and if they do not stone the entire road they repair the cracks with stone, so it was kind of a necessity.

Less of a mod and more of a fix, but the lower/rear tab on my tank (cover) broke off one of the times I took it off... on both sides. I R dumb. Was able to catch one of the broken tabs, so I used an old license plate cover, my dremel, and some epoxy. Cut a copy of the stock tab that broke, epoxied them both on. They're drying over night as we speak. Hopefully everything works out fine tomorrow. Otherwise, I'll have that slight gap towards the groin on the tank. Nothing huge or unsightly, but kind of bothersome.

I may have to try that. The epoxy I had in my tool box sets as more of a rubbery type so it was too soft and just came off the next time I removed the tank covers. If not velcro, I may wait until this winter and make my own tabs from carbon fiber. I've been following threads on another forum from a guy who makes tons of CF pieces himself. Lots of step by step. Seems really awesome.

That's what is great about this mod... it is not wired into the bikes electrical at all. It's just a garage door opener with wires soldered to a push button and stashed inside the panel and runs off the openers batteries. Really easy and very convenient to open garage before I even pull up to the house.

The toe piece on the brake lever came from Home Depot and Auto Zone: $5.64
(http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp83232%3Euqcshlukaxroqdfv5637%3Dot%3E8635%3D669%3D348%3DXROQDF%3E27%3B7289694257ot1lsi)

Had a low side get off at about 25 mph & broke off the toe piece on my brake lever. I opted for a 2 1/4" X 3/8" stainless bolt with two self locking nuts and some rubber bypass caps for less than $6.00 in lieu of $82.00 for an OEM pedal.
Just drill the remains of the old toe piece out, then in with the new.

Made my own fork spring compressing tool. Found a scrap piece of pipe at work, cut off a slice with my chop saw, drilled two holes in the drill press, tapped the appropriate threads, and then painted it. Turned out great!

So I was one who I don't like having to wear a backpack to carry anything but as known with the S2R there are few saddlebags available for it.  Once I discovered that the Ducati one has been discontinued and near impossible to find, I worked to find a way to fashion a saddle bag onto it myself.  Here are some pictures of it.

I fashioned one side of the mount using the passenger peg and then ran paracord from the bottom of the passenger peg to the frame to create another cross mount.  The bags main strap attaches in a similar fashion to the Ducati one, then the buckles attach to the passenger peg and the paracord that travels across the back of the bag.  This creates a pretty strong mount for it, the bag doesn't really move while riding and there are no real collision points.  If anyone is interested I'll pull the seat and bag off and get more detailed pictures of how I did the mount itself.

I made a fiberglass cafe racer rear seat cowl. I couldn't find what I wanted so this is what I came up with. I used the original seat cowl in the mold. It slides in and bolts right on using the stock bolts.

30 minutes into ownership I was ready to tear the fairing off; it flopped around so badly it was like someone was beating on my helmet.  If poorducrider were still around and making fairing stays, I'd have bought those.  Instead I finally finished -- well, mostly finished -- these, made from ¼" OD mild steel tubing.  The difference is immense.  70mph is quite comfortable.  Next up is a Zero Gravity ST screen.

Sneak peek of some polishing work. The cover with the oil cooler mount is a major PITA. So many crevasses and surfaces! I love the shineys though, so all the hard work is worth it.

Aircraft stripper: VENTILATE!! Seriously this is some bad stuff! Also it ate through nitrile gloves. Be prepared to neutralize with water, and wear proper PPE.

That face says "why aren't we playing tug-o-war, can I eat these things you are polishing, what about your tires, can I chew on those?

Also, sadly my polishing skills are lackluster. Once I hit the parts with the buffer, I could see all the scratches and casting marks I missed when I went from 250 grit to 500 and 1000. I am going back over them now with 500 to get them as good as possible, but I seriously underestimated how much work polishing a sand-cast part would be [laugh]. Next time I will hire a pro.

The money you will save though and the satisfaction is worth it though. I sanded and coated a carbon fiber sprocket cover 3 times once to get it looking perfect. It still wasn't perfect but each time it got better. I gave it to a buddy as a moving gift and he loved it. It made all the work worth it in the end.

Custom Seat - ordered the seat cover from Greece for about $50 and picked up a used seat on ebay for $60 and had a local upholsterer put the new cover on for me for $30. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

so I went down a couple weeks ago...in the process my headlight bucket (with projector retrofited) got damaged.  Upper fairing did not break due to it's a carbon fiber piece....so to get it back to the way it was

I install the new danmoto gauge, got the dual headlight set up, and install the 769 front fairing.  Here are some pics...

Love the fairing.  Does it provide any reduction in buffeting and wind blst protection?

Thought I already posted this.. but I guess not  ???

Custom Seat - ordered the seat cover from Greece for about $50 and picked up a used seat on ebay for $60 and had a local upholsterer put the new cover on for me for $30. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.
