Hi Jeff...I'm Kris and new to the bike scene. I have only had mine for two months but ride every chance I get. I'm in Norfolk. There has to be more of us out there!!!

I'm Angelo, still waiting on a Duc 696, but for the time being, I have a crf230L and a 82' seca 650.

Jenro's is in the Haygood shopping center. Every weekend, a lot of the classic and performance cars show up there . A lot of car clubs have their meetings there. In VB, corner of Haygood and Independence. I'm going to head over there after work Saturday(tomorrow), about 3pm probably. Hope to see some of you out there.

I dont have one ordered, i'm just waiting for the initial hype to die down and to let the dust settle.  Oh, and to see if others are experiencing any problems usualy associated with first gen models.  It's pretty hard not to jump the wagon though, but, the bike could have not come in at a better time.  I was about to settle with a 695 until this (IMO) beauty came around!

I'm out of town this weekend but we should meet up, two weeks ago I set up a dinner with the crazyies from ADVrider.com.  We should do the same!  Let me know!

Yeah, we headed out kinda early, ran down Azalea garden to Little creek, to Shore dr. down into the oceanfront. Took a breather, then headed up 264 back home. The heat comin' off the pavement on the way back was unreal!

I was supposed to go and work on getting my boat back into shape, but I just got told that I'm allowed to ride tomorrow, but not do any work! (Fathers day).

Absolutely!
I don't know where in Richmond you're starting from, but...
The scenic route:
Take route 60 all the way from richmond down thru williamsburg, and into newport news. Take a left onto Oyster Point rd, and take that to 64E. Take 64 to exit 264, and turn onto route 664.go thru the tunnel, and continue on 664 and it will become 64. take it to Rt.168 South (Great Bridge bypass). Take that to Rt 165 Mount Pleasant rd. which will become North landing Rd. After you pass Princess Anne rd, this becomes Rt 149 General Booth Blvd. Take a right onto Sandbridge rd, and that'll take you right into Sandbridge.
It ain't the quickest way, but it's definitely the one with the best scenery, and most interesting roads.
While you're here, if you want more scenery, go back up North Landing rd to Blackwater rd, and take it. Just watch out for sand on the road.

My list of things to do is almost done. Any one going riding this afternoon?  I'll check back in a few hours.

I had thrown out the idea of meeting for a ride on a weekday evening.  Well now it looks like we have a few more people here.  Any takers?  A HR rhodeside maybe?  Weekends don't work as well for me on a regular basis.

What times are you talking...I work until 6:00 Monday thru Friday.

My bike's down for the next couple days, I'm in the process of adding some high mount GPR exhaust, and may have to take the pipes in to be bent for it to fit the way I want. It's good, but not perfect.
I'll post some pics when it's done.
Also, saw an S4rs parked at Animal Jungle this evening, and left my card tucked into his seat. Hopefully we'll have another Duc to ride with soon.

Begin random smattering of thoughts.

1. Yea, I was thinking 6:00 or 7:00, meet somewhere, ride for a bit, or just hang around and shoot the sh** about Ducs.  This time of year there should be plenty of daylight.  It seems there have been a couple of ad hoc rides, which is probably the way it will be until we find more HR duc riders. 
If I know I am going to go for a ride (even just a few hours before) I'm going to post here.

2. Are there any groups out there that are a little more broad to catch more riders?  We used to have a European bike night when I lived in CT.

3. Anybody have plans for a ride this weekend?  I have heard there are some good roads out in Pungo but have only been out there once trying to find them by trial and error.

4. I have been tossing around the idea of a second bike for a while but just couldn't put my finger on what it should be.  Well, I bought a '98 748 (yellow) tonight.  Hopefully I can get it registered and out on the road in the next few days.  So if you see me out there, flag me down.

Dunno. I've seen a group of bikes outside Cogans (Norfolk, 20th and Colonial) on occasion in the evening. I think I'm gonna draw up a flyer, and I'll post it up at Redline next time I wander that way, maybe stick one in a couple other spots as well, maybe the BMW dealer. If I cook one up, I'll send em out so y'all can print and post too, I'm just wonderfully busy with work right now.

I took Kris out to fentress/blackwater last weekend, good ride. Heres our route: Indian river to north landing to Fentress airfield rd to Land of promise to Blackwater and back up to North landing. A bunch of nice curves seperated by well paved straights. Give it a try. I'll happily join you if I can get the bike finished in time.

Jeff congrats on getting your exhaust!!! Dave congrats on the new bike...I am very jealous. I can't wait to get back out there with you guys. I am going up to Maine for the weekend (to see the in-laws) and will be going to Trenton, N.J the following weekend (kids all star tourney) so I won't be able to do the weekend rides. I am free Mon - Wed for whatever. I found out yeterday that I have Bell's Palsy so my right side of my face is drooping and my speech is a little slurred plus I can't close my eye all the way. It looks like I had a stroke (but I didn't) so if I go out I will be even slower than last time Jeff...LOL!!! It souns like we could get a pretty good group of guys together which would be so awesome. Take care guys.

Sorry about the Bells palsy, but I have a friend that had that a couple years ago, and they fixed him right up. It's not much more than an inconvenience anymore.

Kris - Have fun up north, I'm a transplanted New Englander.  I love it up there.  Good luck with the Bells Palsy.  Hopefully you can get on an effective treatment.

Jeff- Exhaust looks great.  But the big question is "how does it sound"?  I really like the look of the high pipes better than the low.  But it hasn't bothered me enough to replace mine.

Thanks for the support guys. I went back to the doctor today and she said that I am making great progress. Those are seem mean looking pipes. I can't wait to hear them. Sunday AM sounds good!  We can do a shore drive run, anything to hear your exhaust.  I was going to get a DR650 but they sold it from under me.  I'm looking into a triumph scrambler for the time being since the 696 is out of my price range.  I like the Idea of a Euro bike night!

When Kris n' I went, we set off @ 10am, and got back @ noon, and that worked out pretty good. It was just starting to get uncomfortable by the end of the trip.

Man, this ride keeps growing. My neighbor Jim wants to come along, he's got a Harley, but I told him we'd stop every so often to let him catch up. ;D

+1 , Lynnhaven/Indian River works well for me.  I'm not sure where everyone is coming from, this is probably a little closer to me.  But if we are heading towards fentress it is probably a good place to stop and collect everyone on the way.

We'll run the same route I took Kris on, then if more is required, we can head down North Landing into VA Beach, or run the same roads backwards. Whatever, I don't really care, I just want to put faces to everybody, and see all your rides, then have a nice run.
Everything else is gravy.

Had an hour of free time this afternoon and ran the loop Bun-bun mentioned (indian river, mt pleseant, fentress, land of promise, blackwater), it was pretty good.  It was great to get out and ride, not just commuting.  Can't wait for Sunday. 

Took the 748 out to play.  Apparently, that bike was designed for  arctic riding.  When you combine the outflow from radiator on my legs, under seat exhaust keeping my A@@ warm it was HOT! [evil]  Of course the fact that it was 90+ out didn't help.

Everyone be safe out there tonight.  I was stopped at the intersection of fentress and land of promise when a car comes by slowly with the drivers door half open.   He pulls up next to me appearing at least partially intoxicated and starts SCREAMING at me, "WHAT'S MY NAME? WHAT'S MY NAME?".  Then he started getting out of the the car towards me.  Needless to say, I tried to set a new 0-60 record.   

So everyone be careful out there tonight and all weekend.  Keep an eye out for the crazies!  And have a happy 4th of July.

I took the 620 to the fireworks at Oceanview. Started to rain as I left the parking lot. Road got REALLY slick, so I pulled off and sat it out. It rained buckets!  After it quit, I'm riding home, and there's trees down, debris all over the road, glad I waited that one out.

I'm glad everyone is safe!  I can't wait to ride with you hooligans!  I have a street ride with you lot, and on monday, I have a Dual Sport ride out and around Suffolk. 

What is wrong with people. A few years back I was on Military Hwy, and a Dodge Magnum came flying up on my rear. I switched lanes thinking he would just blow past, but when he pulled even he started yelling out of his window "I will f***ing mow you down, you motherf***er." At the next stop light he kept going, saying he hated bikers or some such crap. Unfortunately I was on a mighty 500cc Buell Blast at the time, and there was nowhere for me to go.

Jeff, thanks for the ride.  Weather actually worked out well, a nice relief from 90+ degrees.   [thumbsup] I'll try to scope out the route to Knotts Island for the next ride.  It might take a couple of weeks though, I'll be busy the next few weeks.  Is Dave on here hiding under a screen name?

The other group I mentioned was the "South Side Hampton Roads Sport Bikes"  on Meetup.com.  Search motorcycle groups then virginia and you should be able to find it.  They have a meeting this Wednesday, so I'm going to try to check it out (60% chance I can make it right now).  I'll let everyone know how it goes, or anyone can join me if they want.

Bulldog - Which Exxon did you end up at?  We will make this work next time.  I'll post if I am going on a short notice ride and I can meet you somewhere.

Ruse - Welcome, I would like to tell you that this is a hopping forum full of hundreds of monster owners, but there are only about 5 or so that are active.  What are you riding?  Do you know any good routes in the area?  If you do maybe we could get you to share some of that knowledge.   ;D

I have an 05 S2R800 and an 07 Buell Lightning. I ride both of them about the same. As for local routes, I am mostly a commuter. I have also post on the badweb, a buell forum, and those guys ride nearly every weekend. They are very friendly and enthusiastic, though they don't sell rabbits.

Ah, yes, we ARE a full service forum [laugh] [laugh] I also make a mean margarita, and my chili has been known to make grown men cry.

I was at the Exxon on princess A. Rd...... Sucks!  I wanted to hear the Desmo twins at full song!  Anyways, I made it up by going on a dual sport ride with some sick gravel roads and muddy 2 tracks.   [bacon]

Ride Report - VB to Knotts Island
About 70 miles round trip from Lynhaven/IR Exxon.  Just under 2 hours with one short stop for gas and drink.
Sorry I didn't post this one, it was very last minute (15 minute notice)
-Took IR out to Princess Anne - moderate traffic, few curves but nothing exciting.
-After passing through Pungo things started to get better.  Less traffic, more curves.
-Once past Munden Point to the end of Knots Island was the best stretch, less traffic, more curves, several sequential turns.  But nothing I would consider Twisties.

This would be a great ride to go down there, eat lunch and ride back.  The problem is that there is NOTHING there, at least not that I saw.

All roads were in good shape, more than 50% in excellent shape, nothing I needed to slow down for.  No debris/gravel in road anywhere.  On the causeway stretch to Knots Island the water was very close to coming onto the road, so there is potential for water on the road depending on conditions.

I think a preferred modification to this ride would be to combine it with last weekend's ride as follows:
IR to North Landing to Fentress, left on land o promise, right on blackwater, left on pungo ferry, right on Princess Anne to the end of the island.  This would be longer but cut out the areas of IR and "Down Town" pungo that are just ho-hum.

I'm Back!!! It sounds like you guys had a good ride last weekend. I wish I was there. If you guys are going on the 20th count me in. I can't wait. I will be in N.J. this weekend so no riding for me. By the way my face is almost normal. HA!!! Maine was beautiful and all I could think of was how nice it would be to ride around up there. Everything is a twistie and hilly. A lot of Harley guys up there and no one wears a helmet. Weird man. [bacon] I love that!!!

Is anybody riding this weekend. My kids all star team decided to leave a day early and didn't let us know. So we are here for the weekend. If anybody is going for a spin please let me know.

I stopped at Redline on my way up. Saw the 696 for the first time. Looks better in person. That is one hella big swingarm on that sucker tho. The guys at Redline, I dunno, they just give off a vibe like they really don't care if they help you or not. I've been ignored by the best, and these guys are right up there.
Battley cycles is putting on a promotion up here in Gaithersburg this weekend, ride in, and the local Hooters girls will wash your bike for free. Gawd I wish I had the Monster! ;D

I used to see lots of bikes pulled over at the MA/NH boarder to take off their helmets ASAP.  To each their own, not me.

I will be out of town this weekend.  But I'm in for the 20th.

I've been told they are snobs up in redline, I don't know, but I would like to see how they treat a young guy like my self (I've been told I look 18, but i'm actualy 25 [moto]).  I'll most likely buy my duc from colemans in Hoodbridge since the guy helped me out and was enthusiastic about everything.

When I went there I got the same impression. They give off an air of what people outside of the Duati family think of us. Arrogant pompus aholes. To bad because I really wanted to like them. Oh well. I hope you will be out there Sunday!!! [thumbsup]

I got the same impression about the Redline guys. I went there a while back on the Buell. There were about 5 people behind the counter, they barely looked at me. I must a spent a good 20-25 minutes looking at all the bikes and the merchandise. They didn't greet me when I came in, and they didn't say anything when I left. I know a few guys on the badweb have Ducatis, and they all say the exact same thing! If you looked up Redline on TOB, you would see  the same, but the owner is there defending his shop and dumping on the people who complained, saying all the problems were their faults.

Hey don't get the wrong idea...I was saying I love the bacon image. I would never ride without a helmet. My brother-in-law has a Harley Hugger that he was going to let me ride while I was up there but I had no helmet to fit over my big brain (XXL) so I couldn't ride.

Cycletrends in Norfolk (by ODU) supposedly has a factory trained Duc Tech there. I haven't been over there yet but my bike will be up for service in a few weeks so I may be the test dummy!!!

So does Adrenaline down at the beach.

Where are they?

On Virginia Beach Blvd and Arctic, about two blocks from the boardwalk. They are close to that Diva customs, if you are familiar with them.

Hey guys, I'm back in town. Gawd, whata week, I HATE insulating attics in the summertime! At least this was for my folks. They only had like 3" of insulation. My dad was getting power bills for $4-500/month.
I think I'm gonna pass on tomorrows meet. I've got to get some rest. I start a new contract on Monday, a bathroom gut and rehab for an architect. Beautiful mod style house on the water. We're doing the whole thing right, jetted tub, radiant heat in the floor, tile throughout. They'll put a little over $20k into it, but it'll be shweet when it's done.
Sorry, I get excited over this stuff. I guess I still like my job.

I tried to be all grown up today and go out on the Pungo area trip by myself. I got lost and had to call Jeff to guide me through I was trying to find a house that Jeff and I stopped at a few weeks ago. I thought it would make a good pic but I was wrong. While I was looking I stopped to call Jeff and found out that I stopped on Private property but the lady was cool. I snapped a pic while I was there.

Jeff told me how to get to the ols house and I buzzed over there. As I said not as nice as I thought it was going to be. Not to mention by that time I was drained.

After I put 121 miles on I was burned out and tired. I saw some kids playing in the water and I wanted to go in so bad. I stopped and snapped one more shot of my lil lady.

All in all a great ride. A little lonely but fun none-the-less. I was at least able to go at my own pace. I'm looking forward to hooking up with you all next weekend. Do we have a plan yet for the Knots Island run? I know Jeff and I are planning on going. Keep me up to date please.

Kris  - That is a good looking bike.  I can't wait to look it over in person next weekend.  I feel bad we left you hanging. 

I'm in for next weekend.  We don't have to be locked into Knots island if someone else has any idea.  But I have no problem leading down there.  We will have to exchange some phone #'s at the next meet up since I rode alone today too.  Just a quickie on the usual loop (IR, N. Landing, fentress, LOP, Blackwater).  Again I'd post if I had more notice.  Once I found out I  wasn't putting my daughter to bed, I did some quick math and figured I had 1 hour of daylight left, and I was out the door 5 minutes later. 

There is a new guy on the list (mike) from this area that I saw on the "introduce yourself" section.  I tried to direct him over here.

Random thought -->  Why don't we schedule something 1-2 months out so more people can make it, and meet the richmond guys halfway between here and there?  Just an idea, what do you think?

I was thinking about exactly that idea. At first, I thought about a DIMBY, like they did up north a while back, and that still might happen, but my wife suggested we all meet up at Busch Gardens one day, which sounds better(cheaper) to me!
We should definitely set something up for like the end of August?

I am down for whatever. DIMBY or Busch Gardens..whatever you guys want to do. I will help in any way that I can. As far as my bike being pretty...she is pretty from about 10 feet away. When you get close you can see that she needs to be wet sanded and the wheel stripes are not straight and i have some horrible white stuff on the engine from when gas poured all over it and I can't get it out. I'm sure they are out there somewhere, But I don't usually keep my eyes out for that kind of stuff.  I will next time though.

Went to Redline today for a part and actually had a good expirience.  Called in the morning to verify they had the part in stock.  Drove up there at lunch time.  I was greeted within 3 feet of the door.  The correct part was on the counter waiting for me.  I was in, out and back on the road in 5 minutes.  I was actually pleasantly suprised.  Will I go back there for service - No.  But they did a good job with parts.  I didn't have time to look around at the new bikes.  They did have a red 696 out front and a white 848 inside.  White is a horrible color on a ducati.  Of course some people say that about yellow, but I would have to dissagree.   ;D

Dave, Glad you're redline experience was good. I think yellow is a good color for the Ducs, although I think it looks better on the "plastic" bikes than on the naked bikes. That 749 of yours looks really good in yellow. But it IS a really noticable color, which is good, considering they're all out to get us.
I posted a topic for the richmond Duc riders to come down an meet the HR riders. I figured I'd let them tell us whether they wanted a DIMBY or a Busch Gardens meet. I'm open to either. I think late August or September, on a weekend. If anyone can't make a particular weekend, let me know.

Dave it is nice to hear that Redline was nice to you. I have to admit that I disagree with you on the white color. IMHO there isn't a sweeter color than that pearl white. Everytime I see it I get a little wet spot. When you are going down the street and you see a red Duc you have to look really hard to make it out. Ain't no mistaking that pearl though. Once again just MHO.

I'm really not happy with these high mount GPR pipes I put on. I think I'm going back to stock. I may see if I can get the guys down at Big Al's to bend me a set of low mounts, or I may just put them up for sale.
The problem is lack of clearance between the rearset and swingarm, especially on the left side. I tried installing the supplied spacers, but that leaves the rearset bolts with about 4-5 threads into the female ends. Not nearly enough, and I don't want to damage the bike.
Just don't be surprised if I show up for Knotts island with a whisper instead of a roar.

Definitely come out of the ride sunday.  I don't think we have set an official time/place, but I think we are assuming the following:
10:00, at the Exxon on the corner of Indian River and Lynhaven (not PA :-X)in VB.  Riding out to Knotts island and back.

If you know any good local roads, please share the knowledge.  I think most of us are using trial and error to find them.

I'm heading up to DC soon, so I might hit you up for some info if you don't mind.

Knotts Island, Blackwater, Ballahack, Benefit are pretty much the only good roads in the area, in my opinion....and its just OK.

Lately, about once a month, my buddies and I would take the bikes up to WV to get some proper twisty roads.

....BUT, I'd love to ride with local DUC guys just to get to know more like minded folks....

As I think you can tell, we're not real snobby about whether you ride a monster.  Hope you can make the weekend trip, but if not, keep tuning in, we try to set up something every couple of weeks. I pretty much lost my motivation after that. Bulldog I know that I said I was going to get some shots of the guys riding but I just felt like crap after that and I even felt like telling the guys...I'm going to head on home. I stuck it out and we missed the ferry but I still had a great time. We will have to try and do it again and this time keep it to the posted limit even though I didn't think that we were speeding. Someone explain to me what happened!!!!

I just got back from my ADV ride!  Started in Suffolk, down to NC in the Moyock area for some dirt roads and sand(where I layed it down on some deep sand) and on to E. City area to Currituck.  From there we took the ferry to Knotts Island and went up pungo to Va beach!  I'm Beat.....  We should all go out and ride with my friend, the GPS GURU, through some nice secondary roads (dont worry, we wont hit the dirt, unless you want to!).  We can all take the same ride with out the trail ride.

I hate to ask this, but is anyone interested in an '05 S2R 800. I have to get rid of one of my bikes, and unfortunately I still owe a ton on the Buell, so the Duc has to go :'( Seriously,  I have been going back and forth, trying to avoid selling it, but we have spent about $40k on unsuccessful IVF attempts, and we have to lay in the bed we have made. It isn't perfect, but it is real good shape and has the QD Exbox exhaust. It was on craigslist for $6500 a few months back, but I am negotiable now that we actually need the money (I won't be posting that bit of info on craigslist when I derby). I did get to do some riding last week down in and near NC, Ballahack was the only road I can remember. We pretty much just kept going down roads until we got tired of it, rode about 150 miles.

Well, it's fairly self explanatory.    5 sports bikes + a speed limit =  [leo] one county sheriff  and a one hour pit stop for paperwork.

I thought Equilibrium was great. Not the best plot, or acting, or directing, or effects, or anything really... but I thought it all came together to make a movie that was fun to watch. My dvd was actually stolen, and I just bought another. I have read that his assault charge was for verbally assaulting his mom and sister, apparently it is a misdemeanor in England to curse and threaten someone. Well, I had a nice little ride in the rain today.
Went to VB town center, to the bookstore, came out, and BOOM, about halfway up 264w. By the time I got home, I looked like I jumped into a pool.. Even worse, it rained so hard, the helmet vents let the rain in, and soaked the helmet lining!
This is one time I'm really glad I wore a jacket and long pants!

No go for me.  I have been in the People's Republic of Massachusetts this last week and going to New Hampshire tommorow and won't be back until a week from monday.  I haven't ridden a motorcycle in 8 days, I think I am going through withdrawl.  But i did get a chance to do some riding on my father's 250 scooter.  That thing cruises no problem up to 55mph.  Even took it on the "twisites" in town squid style (shorts, t-shirt, tevas, helmet). 

On a side note I did laugh today when I saw a guy on a R1 on the highway in NH wearing flip-flops, shorts, no shirt and a helmet.  Don't know why he had a helmet, no helmet law in NH.

Speakin' of new vehicles, I rode up to Redline today. Tested a 696 w/Termis and a "comfort" seat. Much nicer than my old 620. A couple of minor ticks against it, the seat is NOT comfortable (Maybe o.k. for short folks, not for me) kept pushing my yarbles into the tank, and the joint between the two frames catches me right at the knees. Other than that, very sweet. [thumbsup] I could be doin' a trade soon.

The 696 fits me great!  But i'm also really short!   ;D

Does anyone know if we can eat fish out of Va Beach water ways and lakes, I know some are ok to eat from but some have advisories such as the MT Trashmore lake.  I have a lake in my backyard with plenty of fish (just caught a huge Cat Fish yesterday) and I'm located off Holland and Lynhaven Pkwy.  I was going to eat my catch of the day but I was a little worried about dirty waters; so, I tossed that sucker back into the water.  Shame, it was a BIG fish!

Kris, yeah, I like the bike, but I'm really enjoying not having a monthly payment! We'll see. If you're serious about that big Infinity, I'd go on KBB and check the MPG on that thing. No point lowering your payment if you raise your fuel bill, and you may be able to use that info to get a better deal on it.
Bulldog, You can check with VB parks and rec. to see whether you can eat that fish. I'd bet you can. Trashmore lake is closed for obvious reasons! Unless your neighborhood was built on a landfill, or industrial site, the fish should be safe to eat.

I have wanted a DRZ 400sm for a long time. It is so affordable but Ive always heard that its under-powered. Its best that I dont have one because I wouldnt have a liscense anymore due to all the whellies :D I mean a dirt bike on the street, forget about it.

I have a dirt bike for street use....wheelie machine, it is not!  It's gutless but it is economical.  I'll be happy with a 696 and a sm. 

Economical is one of the things I love about my 620. I just filled the tank today, 1.45 gallons for 85 miles of riding. ;D

I hear you. I rode my 82 GS 450 about 200 miles sunday and got damn near 64 MPG! That was cool. But 200 mi. with no rear suspension and getting caught in the rain with no front fender sucked! Dont let the complaining fool you, I had a killer time.

I went to two motorcycle rallies in SC that you would have thought would be Harley only, but there was very good sport bike representation too.  No other Ducati's, but plenty of sportbikes.

I've noticed that cruiser type events have a bunch of metric bikes @ them now, not just harleys anymore really. Whats funny is that I see guys riding metric cruisers wearing harley gear. I'm going to a motorcycle rodeo in Suffolk today around 1. It'll be mostly cruisers but I heard that moto rodeo's get kinda crazy. Who's coming with me, man???? 8)

The 999s is at the top of its class thanks to its engine performance and outstanding components. It features an especially powerful Testastretta engine that delivers a track-hungry 143 hp and a Corse-derived low sump crankcase for consistent oil feed even during full race conditions. The extra power is delivered in a smooth linear fashion to boost performance whether you are riding around hairpin bends halfway up a mountain or powering around a race track.

Ducati’s considerable experience on circuits around the world can also be seen in the suspension: the front end features a TiN-treated 43 mm upside-down Öhlins fork with Teflon guides and top-out spring. The fork uses special bottoms for the radial-mounted, 4-pad front brake calipers, ensuring maximum braking performance.

At the rear end the Öhlins shock absorber, together with the box-sectioned rear swingarm, maximises grip and the control system with one-way valve acts on the rebound damping, allowing complete separation between compression and rebound functions.

The triple-bridge front brake calipers are radial-mounted with four pistons and four pads, and are used in combination with 4.5 mm thick discs, wide-mounted in order to ensure adequate cooling. The radial mount makes the caliper-fork mount assembly more rigid, thus improving braking system efficiency. The box-sectioned aluminium alloy rear swingarm (the same as the one on the 999R Factory race bike) gives the bike a more marked racing look and increases on-road grip thanks to its excellent rigidity/weight ratio.

The 5-position adjustable foot rests are fitted as standard, to further adapt the bike to rider preferences, as well as the adjustable Öhlins steering damper with special cam, which enables easier repositioning upon altering the headstock rake angle (from 23.5° to 24.5°).

The motorcycle comes with a race kit that includes a complete Termignoni exhaust, an electronic control unit with race mapping and a carbon fibre silencer cover.

Hmmmm maybe I'll cut the guy a break and see if he will trade for the 748 straight up! ;)

I was not able to determine when the last time the belts were changed on the 748, or if they were ever done.  After looking at the manual and some online instructions I decided to try it myself.  Tonight I took off all of the interference and removed the belts.  Tomorrow night I will install the new ones and put the rest of the bike back together.  After inspection of the old belts, they look in good shape, but with everything already off and replacements in hand, I figure I might as well keep going.  The process really isn't that hard, just have to pay attention to where everything goes and take your time.  At least that was what I thought until I step back and see this.   I really hope this all goes back together correctly.  Maybe I should be checked into a mental institution.

Who's riding this weekend?

I'm still headed up to Busch Gardens tomorrow. Sunday afternoon and Monday are lookin' freeeeeeeeeee!

Has anyone done the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline drive?  I'm about to take my crf230l for a ride through rt 460, BRP, Skyline, to Loray Caverns and ending my trip at my parents house in Bristow (near manassas).  Are there plenty of fuel stations on Skyline, my CRF only carries a limited amount of fuel, about 150-160 miles to a tank and i'm debating if I should tote around a extra gal of fuel.  Should take 12 hours if I take pictures and enjoy the the open road, I hope the leaves turn colors by the time I leave.  (sep 12th.)  I'll ask other cam'rs to see what they say.

Sounds like a great ride. There's no fuel ON Skyline, but there are exits off of it every 20-40 miles where you can find gas, and a snack.
We took Skyline back from Winchester earlier this year in the MINI Cooper. Great road, curves"R"us!

Just watch out for tourists.

That sounds like an awesome ride...Wish I was hanging with you on that one. Are you guys up for a Sunday scoot. I finished my finals tonight so I am free some of Sunday.

I did Skyline on my s4 last summer. So many turns, it was crazy. The speed limit is 35 or something like that. Too slow. The cops are out there too buddy. I'm pretty sure I remember there bieng fuel ON Skyline(government owned), with gift shops attached to 'em (ca ching). There are plenty af exits and scenic pull-offs. We stayed in Waynesboro, the southern starting point of Skyline. Thats a pretty cool town. Oh, It does cost $15 or something like that. I was suprised by that.

Didn't know you have to pay to ride, but I guess its for a good cause!  I may tote around a half gal. fuel tank for insurance.  I'm not worried about speed since I'm on my dual sport and I will be doing some sight seeing.  I may do this ride again if the fall colors are not out....Group ride anyone hehe

Hi fellas, my name is Mike and I live on the other side of the HRBT in Yorktown.  Although I have ridden MX and other dirt bikes  [moto], I am new to street bikes.  I just bought a 08 S2R 1000 Monster and love it.  Still getting used to it, but would love to go on a ride with you sometime.  I hope to put some Termis on it and a Sargent seat in the near future. Hi Jeff.  Taking the Colonial Parkway from the Yorktown Battlefield into Williamsburg is a fun ride.  Not very twisty but the scenery is nice.

I may be up for a ride Sunday if the weather clears.  But it will probably be a last minute decision.  A couple of guys from work are going to go to bikers for tykes but I think I would rather ride.

NO MORE DC !!!  I guess I forgot to mention that I got out of my commitment in DC and I will be staying local until next July.

748 is back together and runs fine, a week and a half later.  Ran into two delays.  First I needed a 21mm deep socket that I didn't have, +1 day. 
I also didn;t read through the instructions carefully before I started.   [bang]  When I got half way through  I found that I needed to replace the lock nuts and wavy washers.  Called Redline and they didn;t have any in stock so I couldn't pick them up until today, +6 days.  Overall, after my delays, the job wasn't really that difficult.  Some parts were a little annoying but not bad.  The worst part was the hour to remove interference before I could even start on the belt job, and the hour to put it all back when I was done.

Hannah's gonna dump a bunch of rain, then head up east, and should be history by Sunday.

Dave, glad you got out of D.C., sounded like nuthin' but hassle.

Well that sucked!  [bang]  I was on 264 on the way to breakfast and the throttle stuck.  Ended up popping the clutch, hitting the kill switch and working my way over to the breakdown lane.  When trying to start it the RPMs jump straight to about 8K before I can kill it.  Had to have the Wifey bring my truck to pick me up off the side of the road.  I'm home now though, little bit of tweaking and the problem is solved.

Sorry I never made it to breakfast, hope the ride went well.

Sorry I missed you guys today. I gt your message last night Jeff and I meant to call you back but I was up on the roof replacing shingles. I have not been able to ride seriously since the last time we went out  :(!!! I did see a 696 today on Military highway...nice azz bike. I hope to catc up with you all soon. By te way Dave, I'm glad you are ok...sounds like a true pucker moment :o!!!

Anybody check out the Moto gussie, Duc, Ural club - they were to meet at some diner this past Sun. in suffolk, according to the Pilot.

According to the VMGOC , they meet the 1st sunday of each month at Bunnys restaurant for b'fast.

Maybe we oughta stop by next month. ;D

Going up to DC for the week of the 22nd, seriously thinking of just taking the monster.  Closely watching the weather and need to order some bags, but I think this could be a fun trip.  Anyone know and good roads on the way.  I don't want to get too far off the beaten path, but I don't want to run 64/95 the whole way either.

I don't know where in DC you're headed, buuuuuuuut. . .
For southern MD/soutyheats DC(navy yard) take 64 to 95n to exit 104 (rt.301n) over the potomac river bridge into MD and into Waldorf 
1) to rt.228(take a left) to rt.210 (take a right) to rt295 takes you into SE dc  or,
2) continue on 301, which turns into rt.5 to Allentown rd. (take a right) which takes you right to the main gate of Andrews AFB

For the Pentagon and X-tal city, you're basically screwed. 64-95-395 is the only way that won't take you 2 hours out of your way. In this case time of day is extremely important. try to leave here at @11am, and get in 2- 3pm. After that, it's a clustermake the beast with two backs until @6;30pm

In other news, my little netherland dwarf himalayan doe (My avatar) just had her first viable litter. 2 kits surviving so far (Where's that damned "fingers crossed" smiley?), they're about the size of a peanut.

Also,I ordered a DP trunk bag off ebay, and it came in today. Brand new, $80. Now I can actually justify the monster to the wife(But dear, I can use it to pick up the milk!) ;D

They're meeting at the WA-WA on the corner of Independence and Holland rd at 12 noon on both days. I'd really like to have a BIG Ducati presence on one of those rides, as I think it's a good idea to get a look at the other riders in the area, and let them know that there's an alternative to the rising sun bikes. I'm going for Sunday, so folks who work Saturday can make it.

I'm riding to Poe's Pub in Richmond on Sunday morning. They have a biker breakfast once a month. Its alot of fun. I've been about 4 times. There are always alot of cool bikes. European, Jap, American, vintage, and brand new stuff. It promises to be fun. We're leaving from Suffolk around 7am. Who's going?

I went on a meet up/ride with south side HR sportbike riders a while back.  They mostly seemed like good guys, but big group rides and hanging around is not really my style.  But I'd be up to try again.

The 757-sportbike group is planning a meet 'n' ride for Saturday and Sunday. They'll be meeting at noon at the WAWA at the corner of Independence Blvd and Holland Rd. both days, then riding around VA Beach for a couple of hours. I suggest that we meet up there on Sunday, see what they're about, and ride with them. If they're a bunch of immature squids, and dangerous, we can peel off, and go our own way, but this could be a good way to increase our network, and find some people who share our interests.
And have some fun.

Which bike were you riding?

It was nice to see three Ducatis while we were out today. Hopefully they'll find their way here.

Before I left home for the ride today, I dropped my wife off at Norfolk Gen'l for some tests. I expected her to be at the house when I got back, but it turns out that she was admitted, and will be at the hospital for a couple of days. Her Potassium was way low, and she was in serious danger of a heart attack from it.
Since they caught it in time, there shouldn't be any real problems. Just one of those things.

Well guys I'm glad that you all had fun this weekend. I ended up going to D.C. to see my beloved Skins play. I really wish that I was with you guys but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to fly up (My boss has a jet) see the game and be back home before 6 to finish my homework. I hope you all are going to have a few more rides if the weather holds up. I'm down for whatever as long as my homework is set!!!

Oh by the way...I am whipped and proud of it Jeff...I am very sorry to hear about the Mrs. I am glad that they caught it before it got to serious.

Just finnished a 200 mile, straight highway ride up to DC.  Traffic wasn't bad at all, but I'm not sure it was a whole lot of fun.  Stopped by Coleman power sports.  They have a few Ducati's in stock, no monsters. Pair of 1098's, pair of Hypermotards, a 848, and an STS3.  Can't wait until Wednesday afternoon when I get to ride the twisties to Duc Pond and back then hit up Rhodeside at night.   [moto]  And this is suposed to be a business trip.   [laugh]
Now it is off to try to find a place to watch monday night football.  [drink]

I did a job for a guy a couple years back who had his own learjet. Twice he took us out in it, once we went to lunch at a club in NYC! And, no, not a nightclub, this was like the Hahvahd club.
Anyway, Margie's still in. Evidently it's worse than I thought, and they're still doing tests, trying to figure out what's wrong. I'll keep y'all up to date.

Ok the small talk...The jet trip was cool. This got gets the whole trip catered and all the free booze you could ever want. I am not a big drinker so only a few beers for me (not to mention last year we rode up in a Hummer strstch limo and I got so drunk I pissed in a beer bottle). Landed and rode a limo right up to the elevator that takes us up to his suite. Nice seats with our own waitress and a buffett behind the seats. TV's, A/C...Life is grand. It made me feel rich. The company was not so great as the guys who were their with us have done this for years and seemed to want to make me inferior because I have only been twice. Very uncomfortable. Anyhow...The game was awesome and since I am a skins fan (have a shrine in my house and actually come from N.E. DC) it was nice to come away with a win. Flight home was super quick and goodbyes, thank yous were even quicker. I tell you what the guy who took me was super cool...they guys who he is paying for...azzholes...enough small talk.

Jeff, WTF is going on over there?! Do you need anything or is there anything that I can do to help? Are you eating? Do you need me to start swinging dinner by? Please let me know if there is anything that you need at all. If I can do you know I will!!!

What's the plan this weekend? I'm free all day Sunday. I'm up in Newport News but I like heading out in the Smithfield direction.

We do most of our riding out in suffolk and NC.  He is a member of TideWater Dirt Riders and they have land, unfortunately, I can't go due to liabilities.  Your welcome to come out, we do 50/50 dirt/road.

Anybody get flooded out yet?

My gear is SOAKED!!!  Had to do so many water crossings I felt like I was out riding the Road of Bones after the snow melt.  I don't mind riding in the rain but on the way back from the gym it was dark, heavy (rain), and lightning lit the sky.....Kind of sketchy....  Bad thing about it, I have to ride tomorrow morning to meet with a client and I don't think my rain gear will be dry by then. 


  Jeff, Looks like the lake at the back of my house is holding up.  I still have a good foot and a half of land before the water hits my back yard. 


Mccard68:  get that sucker plated...if you can...  Next time we go out to a ORV park (slades) i'll give you a pm.  Only down side to slades is that there are too many ATV'ers who can't ride for sh*t and lots of sand.  Should be fun either way, I haven't  been yet. 

Not Yet, but I have to ride back from DC tomorow (friday), Looks like I am going to get wet!

Had to pick my wife up from Norfolk Gen'l yesterday. Took all day for them to discharge her. I went in at 8am in the Mini, and had to take a detour around some flooding. by 11 it was obvious they were in no hurry, so I went home and did some paperwork. She called about 3 and said she was ready, so I went back. This time I took the truck. Good thing too, I went thru 4 areas that the Mini wouldn't have survived. I love watching everyone ahead turn around, and then just rolling right thru. ;D

Today looks great so far, and I'm thinking it'll be a good weekend for a balls out ride. Shon, I promised you a ride, you up for it?

I should be able to make it tomorrow.

The rain was pretty bad on the way back from DC until about half way between Richmond and Williamsburg.  After that it was clear sailing, but I was already soaked.  The whole trip (~800 miles) brought me up to a 3K service.  Just finished Oil/filter change, oil screen clean, bleed brakes and clutch, and fixed the oil light.  Now it just needs a good wash.

-Has any one bought/mounted tires around here?  Any recommendations for shops?

Here are a few pics of the dc trip.  ~250 miles from Bethesda through the mountains of northern Virginia and West Virginia to Duc Pond and back on great roads.  It was an absolute blast.  I have not ridden in the mountains for a long time, makes you really appreciate the torque of the twin.   [moto]

Great pics! Sounds like a fun trip. I have not had the chance to ride through the mountains on my 695, I can only imagine how much I would hate to return to the city!

Hey all...sorry I missed out on the ride Sunday. I have just been busy trying get my school work done. College is not as easy as it was when I was 19!!! Jeff I really appreciate you looking after my bike during that storm and I'm really sorry that it took so long to pick it up. I am glad that we seem to be getting more people to hang out with the HR crew. By the way Jeff I saw you making the right onto VA Beach Blvd from Ballentine right around 3:50...I was on my way to a football party to see my beloved Skins pull off the upset of the season. Jeff...I'm glad that you got my text. I got terribly sick last night!!! :( I had it coming from both ends if you get my drift!!! I feel better now but last night was a doozy. It sounds like you guys had  good time.

I'm stoked that Bill, the guy we met from the guzzi meet, has the belts for my Cagiva Elefant 650. Thats the motivation I needed to get her running by spring. Having that old ducati pantah sit around since 91 was a shame.

OMG!!! I just got back from doing the Va Beach Fire Department Fitness Test (practice) and it is INTENSE!!!  It brings me back to my wrestling days....I passed but I need to work on my cardio because riding back was difficult, that and I want to do better ;). 50lb vest can get heavy....

I have some good behavior points saved up and I am trying to figure out what to do this weekend.  Fishing, hunting or riding?  Any one have any riding plans?  longer 1/2 day, 3/4 day trip?

No riding for me this weekend. I've got to install new lights and a timer in the reptiles room, then work on the cedar siding for the bunny barn. After that I have to run the truck out to Southern States and pick up a couple of bales of timothy hay. Sunday morning I'm scheduled to install a toilet in Great Bridge. I'm off after that, but it's only Tuesday. I'm sure something will come up to fill the rest of my Sunday. Maybe I'll get some more work done on the boat.

Sorry, fishing tomorrow.  Don't think I can ride today, fish tomorrow and ride again in the afternoon.

Had a good time on the ride and breakfast this morning.  Wasn't paying attention on the way home, missed a turn and ended up on the wrong side of the river.  Ended up taking the highway back from Williamsburg.  If the weather isn't too cold next month we should get some more people out there.  The route is pretty decent, though a little longer than expected.  A ton of bikes there (~75 maybe), supposedly more during the summer.   Good mix of bikes too.  Will, thanks for bringing this ride up, I'll definitely ride up there again.  Saw a few Ducati's too.  ST, 848, 998, and one monster.

On a side note, found a pair of carbon fiber heel guards that I had in the garage.  One has a crack that can probably be fixed with some epoxy on the back side and no one would notice from the front.  I don't need them and would be willing to let them go for cheap (like for a Mt. Dew and the next gas station  ;) )

Man, that is cheap! I have a C.F. rear hugger with a chip as well. I f anyone wants it, you can get it for roughly the same price.

I wouldn't call them twisties, but sections of Rt 5 and 10 up towards richmond that I rode on sunday were good.  Be careful through towns, saw lots of  [leo].

Talked briefly with bdfinally at Poe's.  So there is at least one monster rider alive and well in Richmond.  If you send him a PM he might have some suggestions for roads.

Will, I almost forgot, give your chopper buddies a  [thumbsup]  [thumbsup].   I almost didn't even look at them until you reccomended it.  When I got up close I was impressed.  They were very well done.  Even though choppers aren't my thing, I can definately appreciate the effort and craftsmanship that were put into the bikes.  They weren't the "American Chopper" style either.  They looked homegrown, the way they should be.

Cool. Im glad you got a chance to take a look @ them. We put alot of time and effort (hardly any $) into our chops! I'll ride mine next time so you can check it out. Was bdfinally the guy with the valves painted on his tank?

Black Monster w/black frame on Princess Anne heading south near Pungo around 9:00 this morning.  I didn't recognize it as anyone here, but you never know.  No riding for me this weekend but I did take a grinder to an extra clutch cover I had.  We'll see how it works out.

That was me.  Me and a friend (did you see the Harley Sportster in trail?).  We were going to take the Knotts Island ferry across to Carrituck, then go down to Kitty Hawk.  Ferry no worky and the wind was blowing so hard it almost blew us off the road.  Decided to bag it and headed back to the Peninsula.  Other than that, a fun ride.

So how did it turn out? I have about 10 of the good dremal cut discs left over from my cover. You can have em if you want em.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm already done.  It turned out pretty well.  From about 2 feet away it looks good.  But if you get up close you can see that I could have spent more time cleaning up the cuts with a file.  I am happy with it for a $5 rattle can, 1 hour of work and a little motivation from Will.

Theres a pretty big motorcycle event Sunday in Suffolk. Its called Driver Days. There is a website with the info. Im going and would like to see all of you there. The roads around there are really fun to ride.

I don't know what I am going to be doing on Sunday until tomorrow night.  If I can fix my boat it will be fishing in the morning and riding in the afternoon.  If I can't fix it, I might as well ride all day.

What's up guys?  Good to see that there's a few other Duc riders here in the area.  I'm in Norfolk off Robin Hood Rd. and from what I've read it sounds like a couple of you are right down the road from me.  Bought an 03 Monster 620 about a month ago and looking to do some more riding if the weather and my work schedule allows it.  Hope to meet up sometime!

Sunk yours?  :o Nope don't need any help.   ;)  I won't be taking a grinder to any of the engine components either.  The trolling motor broke last week.  I need a new (used) one or this one rebuilt.  There is a shop in Suffolk that does that kind of work, I'll be calling them tomorrow.

Well, O.K. it sank at the dock, so I shouldn't say I sank it. We're in the rebuilding process, I posted an account of it in No moto content under Das Boat.
If you want to go striper fishing, I've got all the necessary gear, including trolling lures, just lemme know.

I know its a long shot, but does anyone have or know where there is a Kawasaki W1 (or W2) 650 for sale? I want that as my next bike. I've had no luck finding one. [bang]

Dunno about the W1, but I saw an '03 749 for sale at a used car dealer on Military hwy back before the skies opened up. The want $5900 for it, looks to be in good shape, salvage title, 10k+ miles.
I might head down there if it ever quits raining, maybe take a test ride.

I went and looked at that bike as well Jeff. Yellow right. Pretty nice looking bike but no salvage titles for me. :(

I went and looked at it today, talked with the salesman. I was misinformed, not a salvage title, it was a repo. Needs a shift lever(looks broken, not laid down), and the biposto seat recovered.  Guy said the shift lever would be in next week, and he'll call me in for a test ride.
Not buyin' something til I ride it, period.

Might be an early X-mas.

I'll be putting two dirtbikes up for sale over the next few weeks. I'm selling them for a friend who's fallen on hard times.There's a Honda XR125R with a freshly rebuilt motor, I think it's a 1984.
Also a Honda XR250. Not sure of the year or condition, I'll find out more soon.

Here's what I know on the bikes: I'll be selling both of them for a friend who's currently serving 3 1/2 years in state prison.

1 1984 Honda CR125R - This bike underwent a frame off restoration last year. The frame was stripped and painted while the motor underwent a complete rebuild including new bearings, new piston & rings, cylinder bored .030 over, new reeds, otherwise known as new top and bottom ends. After the rebuild, the bike was used approximately 2 hours. Comes with a DG pipe, otherwise stock. Runs like a raped ape. 2 stroke, water cooled, kick start only.

2 1994 Honda CR250R This bike I'm probably going to part out, as its got a cracked engine case. The bike has Showa forks, Renthal bars, FMF Fatty pipe, Keihin carb, Pro circuit racing shock, and a Ceet gel seat.
I'll probably put the 125 up on ebay, and start tearing the 250 apart Friday.

Those are CR (two stroke). XR is four stroke. You can tell by the pipe. ;)

I'm still out there.  As long as it is above 32 and <30% chance of rain, i'm riding to work.  The rain has kept me caging it more the last 2 weeks.  This last weekend I was hunting in Bath Co. so I didn't get in a fun ride.  This weekend is not looking great weather wise, Sunday maybe.

My neighbor works the night watch at NOB. He rode to work last night, and got home about 1PM today in the middle of the heavy downpour. He looked SOOOO miserable!

Too Cold?   [roll]  My back yard thermometer said 80 and my truck said 77.  If that is too cold you are in for a long winter.

Try to stop in at Rhodeside while you are in DC.  I wouldn't expect as many bikes in November but probably still worth it.

I'll ride tomorrow with anyone who is interested.  Just went on a quick 60 mile run in Pungo.  Don't want the 748 sitting too long.  Everyone keep an eye out for piles of pine needles.  I found some big ones in some of the corners.  Didn't hit any, but i don't imagine they are very good for traction.

I am cursed with an interesting life.  My wife just wrecked her car   [bang] Again  [bang]    For the fourth time in 3 years [bang]

This time, she hit a piece of curb that had been thrown into the road. Wiped out the whole front passenger suspension. Control arms, tie rod, swaybar, etc..

AIG dropped us a month ago because of her earlier escapades. Esurance took us on. Their mistake.
At this point, I'm paying more to insure her one car, than I'm paying to insure my truck, car, and bike!


And she says to me "I don't see why you're angry at me, it's not like I did it on purpose."
The make the beast with two backsing piece of concrete was as long as my arm.
It couldn't have been more noticeable if it had tits!
Like it's going to cost me less because it was an accident.
She drives about 1500 miles a year, mainly to the YMCA and the doctors.
Four freaking accidents in three years.
I drive about 15,000 miles a year, in vehicles ranging from my diesel 4x4 to the Mini.
I haven't had an accident in over five years.
You'll all be safer from now on.
I'm done. Fed up. This is it. I'm getting this fixed, and selling the car. She can take a make the beast with two backsing bus.

I'm still here Jeff...I just haven't had much to say. My speedo is not working, my bike has started the stumbling stuff again. I did what we did last time to no avail and it almost got me killed. I went to the Pep Boys on Military highway to get the fuel additive. I put it in and started the bike. Ran it for about 5 minutes with the throttle cracked a lil bit. Pulled through the Farm Fresh parking lot and hopped on the road. Inside lane of Military highway and she loses all power. You want to talk about a "pucker" moment!!! Crossing four lanes on Military Highway going abut 8 mph in the dark!!! yahooo!!!!! So anyway i am not exactly happy with her right now and I am sure it is completely my fault. I am looking for another bike to start riding this spring and i don't think that I will be going back to Ducati. Probably a crotch rocket of some type, but that is a while off.

I am also going through a bit of depression as the crunch of the economy is starting to take its toll on my job. As more and more companies start laying off and not hiring they don't need to do as many drug tests. Well our parent company expects a 24.4% growth each year and really could care less about the economy. They bought our company last year as a cash cow and now that we are trending down they are not happy. I am still the newest account manager here (1 1/2 years) so i am expecting to get my walking papers here very soon. I make a great living here and the pay plan/bonus structure is just crazy. Now it is getting a little tight and to be honest I am very scared.

I am even beginning to do side jobs. I have been selling the rich guys in the office cars for them. I sold a Jaguar XKR a BMW 645 and now I am selling a Ferrari 599 GTB, Lambo LP-640 roadster, Bentley GTC, RR Phantom and a Audi Q7. The Q7 is actually a steal and i was going to buy it myself until this gut feeling started. If anyone is interested in some high dollar cars let me know!!!

Anyways, I didn't mean to ramble, I just wanted to let all my fine people know why I have been absent lately!!! You all take care and have happy Turkey day!!!

     Have you tried taking it to a pro? We can load it on the truck, and drop it at that shop up on Hampton Blvd, or take it out to Redline. No problem.
     You should at least get it checked out before you chuck it. Besides, if it's fixed, you'll get better $$$ for it if you have to sell.

     My biz is in the crapper as well, as you know if you saw my previous calm and rational postings [cheeky]. Of course, winter sux for my biz anyway, it's just worse this year.
     I'm thinking I'll be putting the MINI Cooper up for sale next week. I can use the cash, and I'm ready for something else. I tend not to keep my toys for too long. I'm thinking maybe a Miata next, or one of those Chrysler Crossfires. We'll see what happens. I should be able to get $15-16k for the MINI. Pay off the note, and have about 10k for my next toy.

(see thread in CAM)  2 Guys from my office and I are tentatively thinking about driving up to DC very early on Sat and then coming back late.  Just giving you guys a heads up since we should have a couple of empty seats if anyone wants to join us.

I passed through your neighborhood this morning Dave on my way to Kitty Hawk.  Took the Knotts Island-Currituck Ferry across and then into KH.  Was a great day to ride despite it being 34 degrees when I left this morning.  My hands got a little cold, but the rest of the gear worked pretty well.  Was a nice ride home with the temp about 65.

The run down to Knotts Island is pretty good, but the last time I did it I got into trouble ( [leo]).  I have never taken the ferry. Did you come back across on the ferry?  Let me know next time you head down that way.  I would be interested in tagging along.

I like the ride down Princess Anne through Pungo and then down the island.  There was alot of northbound traffic and I got behind a GDV so couldn't take advantage of some of the nice curves.  I didn't take the ferry back--took 168 and slabbed it (boring) so i could get home before dark.  If there's a nice day after the holidays, I'm planning to take a run up the Eastern Shore and check out some of the small oceanside roads.  Maybe we could meet somewhere near the bay bridge for breakfast and then head out. 

I saw a 749 on craigslist today. Is it yours XJDAVE ? Or is yours a 748?

Woohoo got my computer back!  Whats new?  I just took ownership of my dads 99 zx6r, though it is in need of carb work/valves.  Now I can keep up with the rest of you ;)

Jeff, when are you free, I will call you the next time we go shoot.  I'm trying to get a .22lr for plinking because my para 1911 makes big holes....in my wallet.  After hearing you can buy a .22lr rounds at 550 rounds for $15... I've got to have one.  I shoot at Lynnhaven range at A&P arms so we need to do something!  I'm already getting the itch! 


Also, we are trying to have a ADV dinner at a local adv rider's house, just join up, post up, and bring your own beer!  It wont be till next month but post up at the local forum or search Hampton Roads Dinner Thread.  I would like to show these dirty monkeys that not all Ducati riders are latte sipping coffee house hopping pansies!

It is funny that you mentioned that!  I want to say yes and no to your high speed gravel roads.  We are not allowed to use the road but we usually fly down it, I got my 230l to hit 65 mph and my friends ktm 640adv got 80.  Its long and straight so if you want to do that, your welcome to do so with us.  We also play around at this gravel road near a glider port in Suffolk, it is as close as we'll get to those long sweeping turns and straights of the west.   :'(

Will, definitely want to see the elefant.  I'm going to be blind next weekend, PRK surgery, but I'm sure I'll catch up with you some time.

The following are a few notes about my weekend.  This is what happens on a 3 day weekend when it is too cold to ride and there is nothing else to do.

Tires:  I found that Cycle Gear in Norfolk has the cheapest tire prices in the area.  Picked up a set of Michelin Pilot Powers $152 rear, $123 front.  $26 per tire to mount/balance if you bring in the rims.  An unnamed local VB dealership wanted $190 front, $220 rear and $75 per tire on the bike. 

They will also apply a 10% military discount to everything. (tires, sale items, special order, etc)

Exhaust Wrap:  The thread in acc/mods made me finally decide to wrap the exhaust on the 748 to try to get rid of the hot right foot.  I haven't ridden yet to find out if it works.  Looks good, but now the SS heat guard stands out, time to get some paint.

Brakes:  Put new pads on the front and rear of the monster.  At 19k+ miles the rear pads were shot, the front still had some good life in them.  Since I had new ones in hand I swapped them any way.  It was very easy to do.  Rotor were still within spec for thickness, will check them again every 3k miles just to be safe.  Plan on bedding them in as soon as the weather is a little nicer.  I want to do it on the old tires, no need to chew up new tires with repetitive hard stops.

Tail Chop:  I was very very close to chopping the tail last night.  I had a bracket I made all mocked up and everything, hacksaw in hand.  I didn't do it.  I just didn't like the nubby look of the stock turn signals at the back edge of the seat.  I also didn't really like the way my bracket came out.  It would have worked but just wasn't the way I wanted.  I think I will wait til spring and try to put an integrated brake/turn signal board in to just get rid of the turn signals.
OK, I'm going to go clean the bikes and I'll be done for now.

Those freestyle guys wre crazy! I love that shit. Anyone been wathing the new supercross season? It just started. Joe Gibbs Racing had the points lead for the first two rounds!

Just wanted to say hi guys...I am alive and still have my job. Hell they even gave me a bonus. I am in better spirits and smile a little more now. I went out to try the bike out on Thursday and she is deader than a door nail. I'm going to change the plug and try to dump the fuel out of it to try and find the issue with the fuel delivery. I'm looking for a timing belt job, need a special Duc vibration reading tool to get the tension right on the 1000 DS motor.
Don't mind redline, but Jeremy was out of town so they couldn't do my bike till he got back.

Richmond Superbike is the only shop I take my S4 to. I live in Suffolk so its a longer drive for me but those guys are the best!

I have heard good things about RIchmond Superbike but do not have personal expirience.  I do plan on going to them for the next maintenance that I am not up to doing.  Though I love Duc Pond, the drive is just too long.

Stopped in to talk to them last summer- nice facility. They even gave me a t-shirt!
Just a hike from the beach. Is it possible to get "good will" warrenty work done at a non- dealership?

This afternoon was great weather too.  I went on this sweet ride to . . .  wait . . .  no, I stayed at home and cried.   :-[   I had eye surgery last week (PRK) and my eyes haven't settled in yet enough to make me feel comfortable riding.  This is the second good chance that I have missed and it is killing me.  Everyone else I know thinks I am crazy.  I know you guys will understand. ( though probably think i'm still crazy).  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that maybe by Sunday I will be ready to go for an easy cruise.  Thats all, good night.

Dave, Once your eyes settle out, you'll probably be really happy you had the surgery. Besides, this is the time of year to do it.

I'm set up to work on the boat motors for most of tomorrow. There's still a bunch of parts to be sanded, distributors to be timed, etc. Not to take you away from the open road, but any help would be appreciated. I'll happily offer beverages to anyone who shows up.

Anybody go riding on Sunday?  I took a ride from Yorktown to Appomattox--met up with a friend in Ashland who rode down from Odenton, MD.  It was a beautiful day and it was a good ride to test out the new Arrows.  All I can say is they are freaking awesome!  I saw a lot of people turn their heads when I went by.  430 miles total.

Sounds sweet Mike. I had too much to do to even get on the bike this weekend, but Tuesday looks really good too(Barring rain) so I'm gonna try to take a ride then.

It's looking like mid-40s all weekend--a little on the cool side.  I may got out for a short ride if the sun is out.

Got out for about an hour yesterday to bed in the new brakes.  Took it easy since my eyes still aren't perfect.  For a while it is going to be short (~1 hour) rides on short notice at nap times  ;D   I am trying to keep my schedule clear for Poe's in March.

Also signed up for the second set of MAD track days in July.  I have heard so many good things about them and after finishing my taxes, have a little extra money coming in.  Might be a hard sell with my wife, but I'll work it out.

I wanna ride to Poe's with you. Remind me.

I would have to be up in the D.C. area. The most beautiful weather imaginable, and I'm 200 miles away from my bike. God is laughing.

Nice ride up to Poe's this morning.  Every time I find that it is a little farther than I remember, but still a good time.  About 100 bikes there when I showed up.  Passed a red 696 on the way near the Richmond line.  Saw a Hyper, 3 ST's, Red 998, Yellow 748  ;D and passed a black monster w/ fly screen on the way out.  We should really try to get a monster/Duc ride up there in the next month or two before it gets too hot.

Will, kept an eye out for you but nothing.  Don't figure you could miss me if I rode by.

Did the five and dime with a buddy of mine today.  Crossed the James River Bridge and picked up 10 at Smithfield.  Rode to Hopwell with a couple of detours on the way to Fort Huger and the Chippokes Plant State Park. Slabbed the few miles to 5 and did the Richmond Civil War battlefields and forts.  After lunch in Richmond, took 5 to the colonial parkway. Had a nice pace going on 5 for about 10 miles, then ran into a couple of Harley riders who were putting along with cars stacked behind them.  [bang]  Nonetheless, a beautiful day and a great ride--just under 250 miles.

Hey everyone.  I just wanted to introduce myself.  I'm Jeff and I'm in VA Beach.  I've got an 07 S2R1k that I've just finished fixing back up after someone decided to knock her over in DC.  This weekend was gorgeous, I wish I had thought to check the board and meet up for a ride, as I was a lonely Ducati surrounded by hogs all weekend long [roll].

Hopefully this weather holds.  I love not freezing on the ride to work.

Check out the website and see if that hotel's acceptable. I saw some reviews that said it was kinda old fashioned. That could be good or bad, depending on your preferences, and whether the wife is going. At this point, I don't much care, as long as it's a bed, a bathroom, and near some twisties. I wanna ride!

I'm still checking my work schedule to make sure it's not conflicting.  The hotel sounds fine, I just need a place to sleep and take a shower.  In the meantime, I have yet to meet up with you southside guys so one weekend soon we all need to hook up.  The weather this coming weekend is looking marginal--low 50s.  Mother Nature is such a tease sometimes.

Yeah, I didnt make it. I did get about 150 mi. in on Sat. I went to the drag strip in Dinwittie. That was the first time I've seen that. It wasn't as lame as I thougt it would be. The Sqiuds I rode with were a different story though.  [bang]

This weather is gorgeous.  I did about 300 miles or so on Saturday. 

Is there a regular meeting place for the Hampton Roads Ducati folks?  I'm game for a ride pretty much any weekend I'm in town, but I will probably have to hook up with the DC Metro or Baltimore folks in couple weeks as I'll be up there for work and I'm taking the bike.

I'm attaching a photo, taken the day I picked up the bike from Coleman.  Since then it has received some CRG bar end mirrors.  Next I'm contemplating the Zard exhaust, an open airbox, and an ECU to make it all run smoothly.

Bacon's Castle wasn't that exciting.  It was open for tours but it has a soft dirt parking area and I couldn't find anything to put the kickstand on.  I didn't trust the bike with the stand 3 inches in the dirt and sinking so I just headed home.  I did notice a sign about the smoke house out back, of course it is Bacon's Castle!

Kris, I can give you about an hour and a half in the afternoon on Saturday.   I have a full size truck, ramp and chock so it shouldn't take long.  We might have to dodge the rain drops.  You can PM me a time and address.  Let me know if this helps

Hey gang. Well the move has been a nightmare and we have almost all of our stuff that we are keeping in the house. The new house is taking on water in the kids room downstairs and I am not happy about it. I called Redline on Thursday and didn't hear back from them. I called again on Friday and spoke to John in service. He seemed like a pretty cool guy and told me that they will do the diagnostic early in the week. That portion is only $65 so I'm pretty happy about that.

     Well, at least it's (hopefully)clean water, unlike the last house. Moving is always a nightmare. You never realize how much crap you've actually collected until you have to box it all up and load it on a truck. Hopefully redline will find something real simple(and cheap) wrong with it.
     I think I just made a helluva score. I was on ebay, looking for some leather riding pants, and scored a full Dainese two piece suit, with the knee pucks, in what I think is my size, for under $250. Now all I need is boots.

For the price, as long as they don't smell like cat pee, I'm good. The auction said 6'0", 180#, waist 36. I'm 6'2", 195#, 34" waist, so it's a crapshoot. Hell, if they're too far off, I'll wait til early summer, and sell 'em. Probably make a profit.

Got the phone call from Redline and it is not all together bad. The fuel pump as well as the lines were clogged, the clips for the air filter are missing, I reground the ECU improperly, the chain is rusted up, the belts are in really bad shape and the battery was flat out weak (I let it sit to long after Jeff charged it for me. Clear all the fuel system, change the belts, new air filter, new clips for the air filter, lube the chain, do the 600 mile service and get that crap off of the motor (for those that haven't seen it...looks like a bird was really pissed with me) is at a high of $957 and a low of $800. I am actually pretty happy with that and the guy John has made me feel at ease to know that I am not the worst Monster owner in history. It is going to take a few weeks as I am asked them to put it out as long as they could (I need to scrape together some money) but I should have it back April 11!!!  [bacon]

I bought a pair of Pilot Powers at Cycle Gear.  They had the best price around, equal or cheaper than internet+shipping.  They will mount and balance them for $25 per tire if you bring the tires/rims in.  That is also the best deal I could find.  That being said, I just mounted my own by hand.  It took a bit because I had never done it before but technically not really that difficult.  Used dynabeads to balance them with no issues so far (12omph  [roll] )

Jeff, is that a lightning bolt on your chest?  Between you in that thing and me in my Power Ranger suit, I don't think anyone will mess with us.

FYI - DO NOT run a half marathon on sunday and ride 400 + miles on monday.  I know you all are smart enough not to do this but I am not.  Work gave me all day to travel to DC and I took all of it.  Back roads the whole way except 45 miles on 66E.  Took the standard Poe's route to richmnond, west out of richmond out to skyline drive, 105 miles on skyline drive into Front Royal then into DC.  Good ride, but I'm hurting.  I think the only thing that can fix this is a trip to the hotel bar.

Dual Spark, I think 1k monsters and 1k multi's had them.  They need a special belt tension measuring device that is based off of frequency when plucked.  But don't quote me.

It is the new motor that is in all the 2v Air Cooled Motors, like my S2R1000 but it's also used across the line. Here is a partial description from a review

Anybody go for a ride yesterday?  It was gorgeous. 

Took a nice ride up to Richmond via 5, then Hwy 360 to Tappahannock, then 17 back to Yorktown.  Was beautiful until I got pulled over by a State Trooper.  I was cruising along when he passed me going the opposite direction on 17 (four lane).  I looked in the mirror and when I saw him turn around I knew he had me, so I just pulled over.

LEO:  "Do you know what the posted speed limit on this road is?"
Me:  "55"
LEO:  "And do you know how fast you were going"?
Me:  "Faster than 55."
LEO:  "Really, do you know how fast you were going"?
Me:  " Probably around 75."
LEO:  "71.  How long has it been since you have had a moving violation?"
Me:  "A few years, but it was in a car, not on a bike."
LEO: (With a stern look on his face)  "Slow Down"
Me:  "I will do that."

Dodged another one.  Glad he didn't see when I had opened it up a few minutes before. [evil]

The MAD DOC/Cornerspeed track day was awesome!  Realize that this was my first track day and I have nothing else to compare it to, but I’m in one piece, the bike is in one piece, had a tone of fun and I kept it on the track.  So overall I consider it a huge success.  It is one of the few things I have done where I have been scared to death and grinning fron ear to ear at the same time.

VIR is about 4 hours straight out rt 58.  Drove out there Sunday night.  The facilities were great.  I got a room right above the garages on pit row and overlooking the front straight.  I also split a garage with 3 other guys which worked out very well between the rain on Monday morning and the cold on Tuesday.  I walked the track Sunday evening.  The turns proved to be a lot more interesting than I was expecting based on looking at the course map.

Monday morning started with thunderstorms.  I completed tech inspection, riders meeting and beginner classroom training/chalk talk while it was still raining  Due to the rain we didn’t get out on the track until about 10:30.  It was on and off light rain for that first session.  We started off slow following an instructor to learn the track and follow his lines.  We slowly picked up the pace through the session but stayed reasonable considering the rain and learning the track.  For the second session the rain had stopped and portions of the track were wet and some were dry.  Again the pace increased but I was still focused on learning the track and various lines through the turns.  The sun came out and the afternoon was incredible.  My comfort level with the track really improved and so did my speed.  By the last session of the day, working to get the correct body position really started to click, I was really starting to get it. 

Tuesday was COLD, all day.  The temp in my truck said 44 degrees at the beginning of the first session.  Due to the temperature I backed off a little on the speed, especially in the morning, but this allowed me to work more on body position and lines.  Starting off my body position felt really good.  I found that when I though I was getting off the seat on Monday I really wasn’t but Tuesday morning I did, and I could feel it immediately when I did it right.  By the end of a 20 minute session my legs were shot.  Unfortunately as I worked on body position my lines degraded.  I followed an instructor for the first half of the last morning session and found that I was turning in and hitting the apex of turns way too early.  This set me up for 2 of the best sessions of the event in the afternoon.  On my last session of the day I had a couple of great turns followed by some really dumb mistakes.  I was done, there was one session left but my head just wasn’t 100% in it any more.  Time to pack up.

I found that the Monster really couldn’t keep up with the sportbikes on the straights, not that I expected it to.  Usually I would get passed on the front straight then be right back up on their tail by turn 3 through the “esses”.  They would pull away again and I would right back on their tail by turn 9 through 17 then they were gone.  That was fine with me.  I really don’t think I am a straight line speed guy anyway.  I loved the turns a lot more.  If turn 17 linked straight into turn 1, that would be fine with me.

I can’t say enough good things about the instructors and MAD members at the event.  This was not the full Corner Speed school but they were there to provide instruction to beginners or anyone who asked.  There were 3 classroom training sessions for beginners.  One before each of the first 3 sessions.  They mostly covered information on the track, lines, strategies, etc.  Turn dynamics, braking, turn in, throttle use, turn exit, etc.  Body position, body position and body position.  Out on the track the instructors were also great at giving real time feedback through signals and demonstrations.  Though it was weird to follow an instructor through turns at what felt like the edge of my ability while he was turned around watching me the whole time.  In between sessions instructors were more than happy to discuss technique with you or volunteer to help during future session.  Some would even ride through the paddock area to find riders and give feedback on things that they had noticed on the track.  Definitely two thumbs up to Aaron and his crew at Cornerspeed.  I am already trying to find a way to get back to VIR and take the full Cornerspeed course.  On a similar note, all of the MAD members were great also.  Everyone was helpful with any questions I had and many offered to assist with anything that I needed.  Overall a great groups of riders, not a single person ignored me because I was a beginner.

My camera broke as soon as I arrived.  No I am not even kidding.  I did buy a CD from the photographers on site, so pictures will follow shortly.  During some of the off time I drove around to key points on the track (turn 4/5, turn 7, turn 17) to watch the advanced group.  That was eye opening.  There was a Desmosedici there also.  Very distinct sound, I could tell when it passed even with my eyes closed.  Definitely interesting to watch.

Now I’m looking forward to the July event (still spaces available I think  ;) ).  I’m trying to decide which bike to take.  If I bring the Monster back I definitely need a stiffer rear spring.  If I bring the 748 I need new tires.  Decisions, descisions.

OBX Bike weekend is 23-26 April.  Again, I have never been and looks like a Harley fest.  Though it might be fun to make a day of it.  Knotts Island ferry run to get down there and if it is no good, we ride around OBX and find some good roads home.  I may not make this either, this is the weekend I am coming home.

So I get a phone call today from Redline!!! My bike is done and ready!!! They said that it is clean, looks great, sounds great and is ready to be ridden!!!

Problem is not more than 10 minutes before the call I was laid off from my job. Ain't that a pregnant dog!!! [bang] No warning, no reach around, no nothing just a big fat chicken dinner!!! >:( Oh well, I am a little hurt and I will start the search process tomorrow. Thanks Jeff...Not sure if I am going to do the unemployment thing as I know that I am an able body and there are people that could use it a lot more than I can. A couple of my buddies came over last night and I had one drink [drink] and fell asleep...LOL I am such a cheap date. I have already sent my resume out to a few different companies that are still in the medical field and I have until June until I finish getting my degree so hopefully that will open a few more doors for me. We'll see. Needless to say it finally set in this morning when I got up for work and realized that I had no where to go. I got all the way out to the car and was like damn!!! Guess I can catch up on My MOTOGP '09 video game. I am trying to stay in good spirits but with the way the job market is it is a little scary!!!

Kris, I think you got mixed up. Unemployment is for when you lose your job. Disability is for when you're unable to work due to an injury. If you've been employed for 6 months or more at the same job, you are entitled to unemployment. Also, the unemployment office can help you find another job in your field, while allowing you to keep current with your rent, food, and the important things, like paying for your motorcycle repairs. It also pays better than Moto GP '09.
At least go look into it.

Actually got done early and got an hour or so ride in with my Harley ridin' neighbor, and Gearhead211(Aka Dave).

Met at Redline this morning around 7:45.  There were 10 riders and we took the Colonial Parkway to Hwy 5, crossed the James River near Hopewell then made our way to Wakefield where we had breakfast at the Virginia Diner.  A real good group of folks and we had a lot of fun.  It even got a little spirited in a few places where there were curves.  I'll definitely be riding with them again.  Here's a pic of the group waiting to get on the Jamestown Ferry on the return trip.

Well I went to the obx rally. It was fun. No other ducs though. So obviously I had the coolest bike there [laugh]. I think my clutch is worn slam out. but it does still run and shift. Im not quite sure how bad it is. I posted a topic about it on the general forum. Im curious to see what some of those brainy dudes think.

How many miles? After I get done with the valves on my monster I can give you a hand taking a look at your clutch if you want. 

Replaced the fuel filter last night, who ever put that thing in the tank had tiny hands.  Tonight I measured the valve clearances.  They were all within the Ducati specs, but all well out of the "preferred" specs.  I figure while I am in there I might as well make them right.  This may take a while working 1 hour at a time.

That is pretty bad ass.  I'm jealous of you all getting to ride.  My bike is still in the shop.  However, I have a ton of parts coming in tomorrow and over the next few days.  Hopefully I'll be back riding in a few weeks.

I'm still dealing with the rogue caliper and the ensuing rear wheel replacement.  In the mean time I ordered a Zard full CF exhaust, an open airbox, an ECU remap from Monstermash, and some Bridgestone BT-016's (since the tires have to come off the wheels anyway).  I've also been waiting on a ton of parts of my girlfriend's bike.  People keep knocking it over and stuff.  Her new handlebars, grips, and turn signal came today.  Hopefully will be getting her new levers, tank, and body pieces early next week.

Needless to say, she and I have been helping stimulate the economy in the best way we can.

For the next round, and to hopefully get here before the Zards arrive, I'm thinking about doing the tail chop and changing out my turn signals.  That said, I'm having trouble picking turn signals.  I want something with a smoked lens, a bit smaller and brighter than stock, but I don't much like the way most of them look...

Those are pretty badass.  However, I have my CRG lane splitters mounted in the bar ends right now...not sure I could fit the crg mount over that thing and I'm not sure I want to move all of my controls and crap inboard enough to mount the CRGs on the bar. 

If I got these, could I go with an integrated rear taillight and get away with it?  More generally, does anyone have an opinion on the legality of these?

From what I understand, you don't legally have to have turn signals in VA, but if you have any, you have to have all four. If you paired the Oberons up with a n integrated taillight, I think that would satisfy the legal aspect. I also think the Oberons go outboard of the barend mirrors. I think the site has a bike with both.

My incident occurred up in DC, as such a shop up here is dealing with it.  I've never had Redline work on my bike, though I've ordered some parts from them before.  Let me know if you find a good shop in the area on our side of the HRBT.  And yes, it does suck royally.  I've heard it only gets worse in the summer too (I moved to VA Beach in October).

Oh, if you've never spent a summer here you're in for a treat. Multiple mile backups at the HRBT every weekend, $10 per day beach parking, and you're not a local 'til you've seen your first 300 pound canadian walking down the beach proudly wearing his speedo!

 [bang] This rain needs to go away.  I think I am going through riding withdrawl.  After ~1k miles in 4 days, I have not been out riding since Sunday.

Finnished the valves, fuel filter, plugs on the monster and put her back together last night.  She started up great, with no flying pieces or explosions.   [laugh]  I'm still going to swap plug wires and get a new (heavier) rear spring.  Any one know a shop that rebuilds rear shocks?  I would try it my self but can't find a good procedure or kit. 

 But the next immediate project to to give both bikes a good scrub.  The monster just needs it and the 748 is still a mess from last weekend.  You might think 70mph rain would blast off all of the bugs, but you would be worng.

I'm postponing the cookout til May 16. It's pretty obvious at this point that it will still be raining Saturday, and even if it isn't it'll be too wet to cut grass, and since my grass is now head high, I don't want to lose anyone in the backyard.
So we'll reschedule for May 16, and hope for better weather.

1. Anyone want to do an OBX run?  I have never been out there, ever.  I was thinking of heading down to Knotts Island ferry in the morning  and getting to OBX by lunch.  Then work our way back.  Open to other recommendations also.

2.  I will be at VIR for Cornerspeed on 19 June.  There will be Championship Cup Racing on 20,21.  I think I will hang around and watch that Saturday.  Anyone else want to check it out?

3. AMA Superbike will be at VIR 14-16 Aug.  I think I will try to make an overnight ride out there as my last hoorah before I head north.  Anyone else interested?

What is wrong with yellow.  All the cool guys ride yellow Ducati's  ;D  Seriously, just keep your eyes/ears open.  There are great deals to be had if you have cash and are willing to wait.   I haven't seen any 996/998 but I have seen other deals, my wife would kill me though.

Ordered a set online.  Wasn't sure I would be able to make it to the store tomorrow.  I called and they wouldn't let me reserve a set. 

Based on weather, looks like tomorrow morning it going to be the OBX run.  Will be back long before the cookout.

I didn't know that they are doing test rides.  My parents are in town, I may try to get my father to ride over there for a little bit.

I finally picked up my sweetie yesterday!!! [moto] She is riding better then she did the first day I got her. Turns out there were problems with the bike when I first got her so I wasn't the only thing that messed her up. I have to tell you as much but press as Redline gets, they really did take good care of me. They let me store the bike for an extra 6 weeks while I was trying to get the money up to pay for it. When I got there it was sitting in front of the shop pretty and glistening. They made sure that all was right on it when I got on and the entire team came over to wish me well and send me on my way. They said that they are trying to give themselves a better name and I have to tell you they are off to a good start with ME. It was a nice ride back home and I am back in the game. Looking for ward to seeing you all on the road.

By the way while I was there a guy was taking the streetfighter on a test drive and that is one sweet bike. Is that anyone here? I am anxious to hear impressions on the bike.Way out of my budget but still is pretty wicked looking.

Actually to be honest Jeff, it sucked. I am not really a cold call type of sales person and wtf do you think they had me doing most of the day?! That's right freaking cold calls. They tell me that it is only to get me started and that I will be hitting the road next week. They also gave me the largest territory...Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Suffolk. I am happy and grateful to have a job again (not counting our 2 bathrooms) but I just didn't want to become a telemarketer. I will see how it pans out over the next few weeks and then give you a fair evaluation of the job...on a side note those fila shoes that I was telling you about (and actually wearing on Sunday) I found them at AJ Wright on Little Creek for $29!!! I could have saved myself $20 if I would have waited. Oh well enough of my whining...I hope you are feeling better.

It seems like Sunday's ride was quite the thing.  I hope Jeff is healing up well.

I figured I would drop you all a quick update on my bike.

I picked it up a couple weeks ago from the wheel repair.  All looked good, though it was a little louder than I had remembered.  Whatever, not a huge deal.  I rode a ton on the Monday of Memorial day.  That Tuesday I got out of work early and decided to take the bike in to Redline for the TPS reset and CO balancing to go with the new airbox.  When they got it up on the stand the valve noise was really apparent and Dave heard a couple of other suspect things.  Upon taking the belt covers off it was obvious that the belts had been overtightened as they were rubbing really hard against the case and had worn into the side of the belt pretty significantly. 

This is where I became disappointed yet again.  So, I left the bike with Dave to check out the valves, fix the timing belts, and just generally get the bike running properly again.  Dave was nice enough to give me a ride home.  On the way we discussed a bunch of stuff, but we talked about brakes, suspension, and getting the bike tuned properly. 

I ended up having my Zard exhaust shipped right to them and asked them to tune it and see what they could do. 

Today I got a call that the bike is running like butter, the Zards look awesome, and that the rear tire was losing air and the found a nail in it.   [bang]

I replaced the tires when I had the wheels done, so this rear has about 400 miles on it.  We are now trying to call around and get a replacement.  I'm not big on the pilot powers, but I know a lot of people swear by them, so that is what I might end up with on the rear.  They also suggested a power commander and tune to really get the exhaust and intake running well.  Oh, and that the chain and rear sprocket are worn and need replacing.  So, in short, even though the bike was done, it isn't anymore.

The best part of all of this is that I'm PCS'ing down to North Carolina on Friday. 

I'll let you all know if / when I finally have a bike that is running and in the area.  At this point I think I might not even see the bike before I head out to Iraq in August.  [roll]

What tire do you have on the rear now? Can you patch it, or is that not an option?
I'm recuperating. Might have a bit of an infection in the shoulder, so I put myself on Amoxicillin. If it doesn't clear up in a day or two,or if it gets worse, I'll seek professional help(People have been telling me for years that I should seek professional help! ;D)

Folks on the forum here have really been helpful. Nakid is sending me a set of grips and a throttle , Kris is giving me the turn signals I need, another member gave me an intro to a girl in Cali who has a 620 Dark tank for sale, and another member is going to look thru his spare parts for a right rearset. I just ordered the handlebar from Redline, and it'll be in next week. Hell, I could be back on the road pretty quickly if this keeps up!

On the rear right now I have a Bridgestone BT-016.  For the few hundred miles I was on it I loved it.  It was so smooth and stuck so well compared to the old tire that never seemed to feel comfortable.  I talked to Redline again and we are going with Pilot Powers on front and rear.  They are giving me a nice credit for my all but unused front.  We talked about patching the rear, but I was told it could simply lead to more trouble than it would be worth.

The chain and sprocket are on their way overnight, so the whole bike should be done Friday.  I'm still trying to figure out a ride up there to get it, but hopefully I can get something lined up.  I'd like to keep the old exhaust just in case I need to put it back on down the line.

Glad to hear that parts are coming in from all corners.  Hopefully you can be back up and running in no time.  Definitely get the shoulder checked out if it doesn't clear up soon.  The last thing you want is some sort of nagging injury. 

I'm off to pack more.  I need to be all set for Friday when I pickup the uhaul, because once I get the bike back I know I will waste a few hours riding instead of packing and loading the truck.

Actually, I'm going to try something to pop the major dent back out. It sounds crazy, but if it works, it ain't crazy, right?
If I can get the main dent popped, I'll just bondo this tank, and get my neighbor to paint it and the front fender for me. He's got some really gorgeous candy pearls that would just look gorgeous on the Monster.
The rearset should be here Tuesday, and  I sprung for a set of bar end mirrors.
I'll post up when I get everything together.

Don't think so, but I met a couple of other Monster guys a couple of years ago on the southside.  One had a black s2r with added green and red stripes.

If we have met, I would have had a 03 Yellow 800 or a 07 Red S2R 1K, likely around VA Bch at the time.

Wal-Mart is on rt. 10 i think. Its the same one we met at last time for Poe's. I may not make it now though. Depends on if I can get myself up or not. I got a big night planned tonight. First a party then Janes Addiction! My buddy Jerry will be there on his XS650 street tracker (real sweet bike). He is kinda a stickler so he will be leaving by 730. You guys should go regardless. Good ride up to Poe's and back.  Had a nice "pace" on the way back.  Lots of Ducati's up there.  Mostly the group from Redline.  Ran into Mike there.  Missed you Zeb, didn't see you at the road coming from the ferry or your bike there.  Did you make it?

Just helped my buddy pick up a '69 HD Sportster.  The owner bought it new, rode it until '76 when his friend was killed and parked it in the garage.  It is in great condition.  Just needs to clean it up and do a little work to get it running.  Now I want an old bike.  Maybe I'll start looking for a winter project when I get up to CT.

Got caught in the storms on the way back from Pungo yesterday.  Turns out that the same storms knocked out the main power breaker at my house.  (not just tripped it, but broke the old breaker)  Had to stay home Sunday morning to meet my brother/electrician to get the main breaker replaced.  So I didn't make it.  Hope to make it next time.

Hey gang...I was in ptown today and saw a pretty interesting thing going on. These guys had a forklift and were shifting around a bunch of old bikes. Now her is what was killing me. They were doing it in the rain. Apparently they are having some sort of exhibit starting pretty soon. Might be a nice day trip for us. Seems like a bunch of Harley's but there were a few Triumphs and one Vincent. Anyway enough talk...candy or  [bacon]!!!

I've thought about starting one, I'm just not sure if it'd be worth the bother. We have about half a dozen Duc owners that're hard core, and a few more that are sociable on occasion. Plus, somebody'd have to run the damn thing.
