Ok guys, starting a new thread on this topic in hopes of keeping it on track. I am also posting something up on Ducati.ms as well in hopes to getting a broader audience. So far it seems that we might be better off having a rotating meet spot due to so many people living in opposing areas. So with that in mind, discuss.
Possibly do this suggestion?

There is a very authentic cafe on Lee Highway, next door is a restaurant owned by the same (VERY Italian) fellow
Restaurant

Dolci is a very nice sit-down restaurant and Sfizi is smallish.
Anyone interested? would be like a tuesday or wednesday night. ride your bike in and show off.
In!
Twice/month works! Also like Tues/Wed nights.
Ok, Tuesday works best for me, but I can most likely flex my schedule to accommodate. Now we just have to get buy in from a few others and start deciding on where to go. What part of town are you in?
I'll definitely be up for this. It will be good to meet some other guys.
I'm in as well. I like the idea of a rotating spot instead of going to the same place over and over again.
Cheers [drink]

Well, from what people have posted so far, Tuesday looks like the best day to try and plan this. Neither of my bikes are here yet, so I will be caging it for at least another week or so. Now how about place suggestions? I am relatively new here, and the few places that I know of would be in Shirlington or up at Rhodeside. I know neither of these places really offer much towards the desired variety of location, but it's a start. Also, tomorrow is a bit soon to try and organize it, so what say we start off aiming for Capital Brewery in Shirlington for next Tuesday, the 22nd? What say ye?
Oh! In...
I can put on my helmet and walk over :). If we sit outside I can bring my hound

Cool. I'll call and make a reservation as we get a bit closer, and start to get an idea of how many people will show up.
Cap City might work.
Rhodeside has a good location and cheap beer most nights, but we really need to change it up. I say pass.
I've been liking Rockland's (BBQ) lately. They've got a patio (kinda) + decent parking for bikes. Good food and ambience too.
There seems to be a ton of options along Lee Hwy. Some with little/no parking, and some with great parking. I could go scout this week.
There are some options in DC, too. Adams Morgan. If we can stand the scene. Some hidden gems near the Capitol.
I don't know Alexandria very well, but imagine there are spots.
Just gotta keep traffic in mind since we meet at the tail end of rush hour.
No worries. So let's do Capital City this first time, then shift it for the next and following. I'll leave it to you to nail down the next location. ;)

We have done Southside 815 in Alexandria a long while back. It's at the bottom of S Washington. We managed to snag parking out front... but it might have just been fortune smiling upon us.
You'll see lots of bikes (mostly HD) gathered at the end of King (by Union) though there's no real outside places there. Lots of times you see the owners of the bikes just standing around them.
There's usually some cool bikes gathered on weekend mornings at Mishas coffee for a little chatting and tire kicking on weekend mornings... but that's a different set. And perhaps a different topic but we could look at a little cafe society meet up on weekends too...

That would be cool, and could be incorporated with weekend ride-outs. But let's start a new thread for that. [thumbsup]
Looks like two guys from Ducatispot will be joining us next Tuesday night.
What an instigator! What an organizer! Looks like I may have to adjust my weekday workout schedules to keep things going back here. Of course I will have to recruit new folks as a lot of your former group are almost out the door.

will catch up another time - go the kidlet on Tuesday night.
Ok, so it looks as if a reservation for ten will cover it so far, anybody else planning on coming? Also, I assume outside is the preference for seating?
Maybe.
Maybe attending. Outside is preferred until it rains.
I plan on coming and possibly bringing one more Monster with me. It's going to be a scorcher outside that day BTW:

Best of luck with that, I've had problems with my wrist ever since I fell while rollerblading.
Ok, we're still on for seven. Reservation is outside and under my name, Ben.
Anybody put any thought into the next event?
Ok, just got a call back from CCB. Apparently they don't take reservations for outside seating, so the reservation has been moved inside under the condition that they will seat us outdoors as long as space allows.

In Shirlington there are (that I know of) 3 garages. There's a limited surface lot behind Bungalows, too. Not sure about any MC specific parking.
There's no moto specific parking. There are the three multiple level garages, that flat lot and street Parking.
I'd do a pass by cap city first, as you might be able to snag a curbside spot right out on the main drag (campbell) or on Quincy

Good meeting everyone tonight. I talked with the manager of CCB about the possibility of a regular chapter meeting spot there and he told me that they could offer us $2 beers and $5 appetizers if we have decent numbers... Thoughts?
That must have been a nasty power outage because a big strip of 395 had no power also.
Good meeting everyone tonight. Hopefully we can do some riding and more meets in the future.

Hank Dietles in Rockville right across from White Flint.

it is a roadhouse dive with a shitty lil 6 foot bar pool table and a bar that accepts cash only and serves bags of chips as food most nights and had exactly the opposite of most every other place you'll walk into anywhere in the DC Metro area...the beer isn't a vast selection or great by any means, but it is there and cheap!...there is a perfectly acceptable amount of room out front or on the side for which to park motorcycles and it has the most earnest way about itself over any place you'll go to.
that's my vote!!

Ok, so maybe we can make CCB the central spot, DT the northern spot, now all we need is something a bit more south for the folks that live Springfield way. Thoughts?
DT???...what is DT in northern placements?....I think I missed that.
Your tavern. [roll]

I've got kidlet from now until July 24 - that takes me outta the game. Have one for me. [beer]
Don't mind Dietles Tavern (aka DT) as long as someone is willing to make up for the loss of good looking runner chicks ;)
I would also consider Adams Morgan, as there's plenty of bike parking (which is important for those who actually ride their bikes to these meets!), and the area is not as bad as during the weekend.
Oh, and a plug for Georgetown too, parking is ok and there's a few nice places.

Ok, so is everyone good with making it up to Dietle's tavern this coming Tuesday? One thing that I noticed from last week is that seven might have been a touch early. What are your thoughts about moving the time back a touch in an effort to stay away from traffic?

Massimo, we can meet/intercept you somewhere. I'm open to suggestions, but here are some rough routes I was thinking:

2. Clara Barton Pkwy -> MacArthur Blvd -> Falls Rd -> Democracy Blvd -> Old Georgetown Rd -> Edson Ln -> Rockville Pike

Sorry for missing last night. I got home a little before 5:00 and let dogs out into the back yard... one of them was struck by a falling tree branch. I didn't see it happen, but I heard it. Pretty good size branch, too (60 YO oak tree).
Long story short, Lucy went to the animal hospital for the night. Her eye was cut and needed stitches. XRays showed no broken bones, but the doc was worried about head injuries. She was not moving 100% when I brought her in, but was wagging her tail. I love that about dogs. Hopefully she'll be coming home tonight.
I'll catch up with you all at the next gig and, hopefully, for a ride this weekend.

I got the manager of Capital City Brewery to offer up the same thing. We just had to have a decent number show up regularly, and they would give us $2 beers and $5 appetizers.
What night is this planned for?
Tuesday night. Let's set the meet up time between seven and seven thirty. I'll post up on Spot and MS to see if we can get any more takers. I want to get some SBKs out as well.

Perfect!
How many people usually come to these things?
I don't remember if they have a draft. If they do, maybe they can buy a keg for our group. That is relatively cheap to do, like 70-90 bucks. If everyone drinks beer that is.... Of course, if you drink grappa, then, well.. you're on your own...:D
It's a mixed bag as far as how many people show up. I've only gotten this going again since moving here three weeks ago. The first evening was pretty good, with about ten people coming, but the second (up in Maryland) only had four of us. Several people have said that they would come if they were back in NoVa and I am trying to drum up more interest on the other Ducati forums as well as a few Duc owners I know at work.
So bottom line, could be as few as four or as many as twenty?
I wont push him for a deal then. I'll just let him know if its a go or not and if it works, then he can decide. It's a nice laid back place. They have a patio too, but it needs to cool off for that... [drool]
That'll work. And I agree on the deal part. Let's wait and see what sort of buy in we get.

So far it looks great. Would be a nice monthly meetup for Ducati/Italian bikers. Would probably get me off my ass to work on my other bikes.... sigh.. so little time... :-\

I recently had too much fun at My Brother's Place over by the Capitol. I kinda like how it's tucked away; easy parking for cage or bike. Interesting but fun vibe inside - mostly folks who work on the hill and need a place to blow-off steam. We'd definitely mix it up.
http://www.mybrothersplacedc.net/ (http://www.mybrothersplacedc.net/)
Anyone know something I don't about this place? I've had just the one experience...
Second my brother's place. Have been there a couple of times and had a good time. Can't speak to the food, I've only been on the liquid diet there...
from their website...
Tuesdays
Enjoy Awesome $1 Tacos (6p-Close)
1/2 Price Wine 4p-8p,
$5 Pitchers (6p-Close),
& 3.25 Sam Adams Draft 4p-8p
While you play Buzztime Trivia
The food is average, but the tacos just might be "awesome".
I recommend getting a table in the back - we get someone to wait on us that way. I recall the bar area getting rather ruckus as the night wore on. Of course, that was part of the charm.
Ok then, looks like tomorrow's event is set for My Brother's Place. Does anyone want to meet up ahead of time and ride down there together?

Yeah, it was the Monster - inspection sticker is quite visible on that thing. Though it could've been the 1098 too ;D. So much for my never getting them inspected again theory. Can I borrow somebody's front & rear wheels, that actually have some tread left on them? j/k :P

We'll be staying up in Bethesda & may need to cut out early as that evening might be the only chance to spend time with my best buddy in town & his lovely wife, but if I can make it work tell me where to be & we'll be there.
Cheers,

hell....maybe another go at the wonderful ambiance of Hank Dietles?!?!?!...$1.75 Yuengling drafts from 4-7 is their unpublished happy hour special...
We have a guest! Ya, let's do Bethesda'ish to keep the logistics simple. [beer]
Theres a place called Chef Tony's on St Elmo in Bethesda. I know the owner, couldnt be a nicer guy.
Cheap lunch specials and there was only one entree more than $20 for dinner (2 soft shell crabs). He said he could arrange for bike parking in the alley next door or there is garage parking with bike spaces right next to the entrance.
......and Ive fulfilled my "once every ten years at Dietle's" quota! [evil]
Being old and married, I need something to look at other than smoking derelicts (non biking derelicts) wandering into my space or 300 lbs of drunk chick on the verge of stumbling into my lap. That's just me.
Excellent -- we're off for the wilds of Ohiopyle in a bit, so will be offline until Monday; I'll check in and find out where folks have landed.
Loads of places in Bethesda, just zoom in with google maps and look at all the forks.
My favorites are RiRa and Rock Bottom, but anything goes.
Let's do the joint there on St. Elmos. It's conveniently located close to Signature Cigars, and I can walk over there to get a smoke. :D
I will take part in that walk!

Ok guys (and gals), next week's meet up will be at the Royal Mile Pub, up in Wheaton. The first Tuesday of the month is supposedly their Scottish Fest night, so it should be grand old time. Hope to see everyone up there. We'll be moving things back down south a bit for the following week.
Moving this weekend and will definitely need the time off (although perhaps not for good behavior). I'm teaching again, so it will be on the late side. Since it's an event - perhaps a bit more dressing up is in order? hmmmm, wonder if I will have unpacked any corsetry by then? ;D
I'm sort of moving. I'm at home now, waiting for the movers to come deliver all my shit. Kind of figure my next week will be spent with a fair amount of unpacking and sorting, intermixed with a large amount general make the beast with two backsing off.
I don't really plan on dressing up any more than what I normally wear when riding. It's a Scottish pub after all. ;)

sorry about the 1/2 sentence...just for something different to do!
I am able to actually make this one (I know, I said that last time but the heat conspired). However there were threats of kilts. This will not be tolerated!
Back in Northern Arizona after a long day of planes, (Metro) trains & automobiles and wanted to say thanks & I'm glad I got to meet a few of you this past Tuesday!
And I'll extend again an open invite to come visit up here in the mountains -- we'll show you the town and the canyon roads that surround it.
Cheers,
BRAD
Just to keep it fresh in everyone's memory; Tuesday night at the Royal Mile Pub, in Wheaton.

BAH! Apparently the cable installation is not going as well as planned and that might through a delay into everything tonight. I'll be flying into DCA from LGA next Tuesday night, so I may just have to reroute into Fairfax before heading home.
Eh? Did the cable guy set fire to the place?
Edit: I called the Royal Mile to see if they thought a reservation was in order. The guy said they don't take reservations on the first Tuesday, and that they would not be able to seat us (if we elect to take a table) until the entire group is there. So, who plans on coming? ;)
Ill be there. Haggis needs to happen!

Take it easy,

sorry to have missed it last night....I just got behind the ball on what needed to get done and plugged away at that...
and as far as the cable...seems the line going to the house has such degraded signal that the construction & maintenance division has to get involved and figure out how they are going to deal with this because the line goes under 5 driveways before it gets to our place...oh joy!
Molee, molee molee!
Z, you missed the Muther of All MOLES!

that should not be a big deal. they can pull another wire and run a shielded RG58 using the old wire as a pull UNLESS something has chewed thru it which is probably the case.. or soeone has dug into it.

Nope - not mine! But looks exactly the same, kinda creeped me out seeing that ad.

Nice meeting you all last night. Zoom / Dolci - you missed pirates singing sea shanties. It was, uh, an experience.
Damn - and it wasn't even Piratz Tavern (another fine drinking establishment). I taught and then ended up going home and crashing for almost 9 hours (at Zooom's insistence). He was busy still emptying his place of stuff; I think I semi-coherantly said a few words to him when he got home.
I only have 2 more weeks of no 11-year old so I hope to try and make it out!
Good seeing everyone again last night! And yes, the singing was quite an experience.
Next week we will be down in Fairfax again, at Sfizi's and there was talk of wanting to do an Old Town meet, possibly on a Thursday the week after. Thoughts?
Teach on Thursdays but could always make it afterwards! No munckin on Thursdays.
Sfizi is marking off motorcycle parking for the 10th. You need to ride an italian bike to take advantage.
If you plan to come, post up for an informal headcount.
He also has a tv ill see if he can dvr a race....

I'll have the SC there as long as the weather isn't shit.
I'm in cuz Monday's my birthday!
I think I might finally be able to make it to another one of these.
DRK, bring the SC! I wanna drool over it a bit. [drool]

I'm in, conditional on weather.
Also, how about Reef in Adams Morgan one of these days? Easy parking, can keep an eye on the bikes from the roof. And I likes to look at the fishies.
Ok guys, don't forget; tomorrow night at Sfizi's in Fairfax. Let me know if anyone wants to meet up in Shirlington and ride down together from there.
Should be dedicated parking. Any idea how many ppl confirmed so I can tell Lino?
I'm out. Things are just not going my way. Bike project is taking longer than hoped and has more hassles AND it seems my AC walked off it's last leg last night.
Need a loaner window ratt'ler? I've got a couple sitting in my shop.
It may come to that. Waiting to hear from the condo assoc about HVAC vendors... then I find out how much of my first child this will cost me.
Might not be riding for a while if the bike needs some costly bits like a shock rebuild

I'm still in. Hesitant to take the World's Loudest Clutch to the Shirl, due to the inspection police umpalumpas.
Can't make it this week. Got to be up in Baltimore around 8.
So, other than the people that have posted on here, two people from Ducatispot said they were going to make it along with one other guy from work.
Went by a place in Reston town center called Jacksons. Outdoor seating with a line of bikes out front. Two of which were a red Streetfighter and a white 696.
BS'ed with the owners (father and son) and told them about this here site.
Might be a good place to put in the queue.
DRK, what time are you thinking for meeting up? I might be down for that.

Thanks for keeping me honest, Drk! Unfortunately, work had me by the balls tonight. I still haven't figured out why I'm not independently wealthy and free from all this working stuff. [beer]
On a bright note, my frame sliders came in so I can go sweat in the garage for 5 minutes and and worry about my works a little less. [thumbsup] [moto]
Thanks to Al, Isaac and Rick for showing up. The rest of you guys missed out on a good spot. I'd really like to make Sfizi's a regular, second Tuesday of the month spot but it sure would be nice to get a bit more solid of a showing...
Excellent food, excellent company. Good call! [thumbsup] Leaving, lost Ben out of the gate, and I think I lost Al & Issac at the light. Ah well, I have no control over first gear. IT controls ME!

Mostly past the crush phase...although there is still some showing off going on. She obviously thinks of him as a "parent" more than anything since she doesn't seem to give two thoughts to changing her clothes in front of him.

Ok, so what is everyone's thoughts on this coming week?
Irish Inn on MacArthur. Jacksons in Reston. Kava in Germantown. All worthy of exploration. Kava should happen on a Thursday I hear......
cough......good guys.......cough
So what's the dirt on the Irish joint?
Work is going to be really hectic this week for me. Might not be able to make it anywhere until next Tuesday... Also, a couple people have expressed interest in doing a Thursday night thing, and maybe down at Old Town. Thoughts?
It's a neat place off on it's on, just off MacAurthur, near Glen Echo. I've stopped there for lunch one time. Seemed cool enough. Big oak bar and a bit of an older school feel to it.

and if you get drunk enough in the summertime...you can wander up to the carousel and ride the ponies drunk!...LOL
So what's the consensus for tonight? Are we going to the Irish pub in Glen Echo?
I will be unable to make it tonight. More than half of my class admitted to cheating on a take home assignment, so I must dream up ways to torture them on the final which I'm giving Friday. Bwahahaha!
Admitted to cheating??? I don't know what those words mean. [evil]
Can you imagine?!? I caught 4 of them red handed, but I always give people an opportunity to self-refer to the office of judicial programs (it's a huge pain in the ass if I have to refer them, but easy as pie for me if they self-refer.) So I tell the whole class that this is their opportunity to self refer before I refer them and 22 out of 40 either admitted or were ratted out by their peers. It's not uncommon to have cheaters, but I've never seen or even heard of a group this large being caught. I just got home though and my Termis came in the mail, so I'm cheesin' anyway! ;D ;D ;D
Anyone going to the Irish joint? I could go for a couple good beers....
I just got home from work, and have to be back there at five in the morning. I'm drinking myself to sleep here at home...

Somebody mentioned a beer or two in the Old Town tonight? It's nice; I'll probably be out & about for a bit. Or the Reef Roof (Adams Morgan). Or Clarendon Ballroom roof, though I'd probably walk there.
So who's up for a meet this week? It's a bit late to try and plan something for tomorrow, so what's say we do a Thursday night in Old Town?
Huh, I was just posting to ask what was going on this week. I might be able to do Thurs since Old Town is so convenient.
I could only do tomorrow night (and was planning on attending) but there are plenty of other weeks as well. I'll be in OC chasing the girlfriend around Thursday night.
Ok, Old Town on Thursday - How about Chadwicks?

And, I'd like to point out that that running group, with all the nice young ladies (ahem Darkwing) is still meeting Tuesday evenings in Shirlington at Cap City.... just sayin'
I am actually a bachelor until next week, my family went to cape cod.. I can't take off work for a while so ... I'm stuck at home... alone... with a fridge full of beer... full control of hte remote... i am going to eat steak and taco bell every day and the cat doesn't mind if i fart constantly or shit with the door open.
So... where is this place tonight? I might take the 600ss if I can bleed the brakes this afternoon.
There's been nothing laid out for this evening - it was shifted to Thursday in Old Town Alexandria. I nominated Chadwicks as the venue, but it's still open if you've got better in Old Town.
I'm with ducatiz, I'm flying 100% solo for once and have the desire and means to drink, eat, and fart far more than typically is allowed.
Does anyone have a desire to do something smaller tonight?
Ok, Chadwicks it is. Thursday night at seven thirty.

So, no one has really kicked out any ideas for this weeks meet. So with that in mind, how about hitting Cap City in Shirlington again? Been a while since we've been there, and it is fairly central. Next week will be back at Sfizi's in Fairfax, then want to try and do something a bit on the north easterly side so Chris might come down. Thoughts?
Shirlington works for me :)
Northeast side means I'll make an appearance as well, but I dunno if that should be incentive or a cautionary tale.

Imagine that. ;)
Ok, limited feedback from everyone, so let's move this week's meet to Thursday. As of right now, the plan is to meet at Capital City in Shirlington on Thursday, at seven thirty.
Booo Thursday's not the good day.
Ok, so is there any interest in a meet up this week?
I'm in for Thursday. I hear Shirlington is the place to be...
Likely in, I'll know for sure later.
Where's the spot for those who are VA-impaired?
So is there a meet tonite and where is it exactly?
Capital City Brewing in Shirlington
From DC/ Points north - go south on 395 - Get off at the Shirlington Exit. At the end of the ramp you'll come to a light. Go through that and take the next left (there's no light) And go to the end of the block. Cap city will be on your right. Take the right to park out front.
If you come to a 2nd light, with a parking lot on your left you've over shot. Just hang a Left - left
Seven thirty, at Capital City Brewing.

How late do you guys hang out? I'll be coming from Elicott City and get off work at 6pm?
Just twist the right handle all the way until it stops, you'll get there in time. ;)
Seriously though, we'll probably be there until at least nine thirty, maybe later.

If I see a single mankini I'm leaving.
In, on Monster, assuminging Frick & Frack are handing out inspection expired tickets.
Ok, I'm here and waiting on the table. They are a bit busier than they thought they would be. Bike is parked around the corner, on Quincy.
Have one for me! Wish I could make it.
Good times! Nice Hanging with Steve & Marcin! And Ben was there too. Caroline Wozniacki was who I was thinking of - hit her up on the wiki.

Good times last nite great to meet you guys! The ride is not soo bad now that I know my way and have lights. And yeah she is hot gotta love the polish girls. BTW if the speed cameras did not flash does that mean it didn't get me? I got a little carried away on 395 through the tunnels and I might have broken the speed limit.
I think you'll be fine - not sure if motos register on those things. After 3 attempts to get the 1098 inpected today (first 2 places out of stickers, 3rd guy sick WTF!!!) I've given up. And now watching... tennis.

Similar thing happened to me on Wednesday. I got the car inspected at the 3rd station. First 2 stations asked me to "come back tomorrow" because of no stickers. Too early in the month? WTF? Well, I ended up at the Midas at the corner of Lee Hwy and Washington Blvd. They prolly do M/C too.

that must make for a fun date
Tuesday is out for me this week and next...Thursday works if folks are game.
I'm in for Sfizi.
I'm in for Thursday. Bike is currently getting it's 7500 mile service, some new tires, fork and some more red accents.
Sfizi nights are (at the owner's request) always Tuesdays. Not sure how many people are in, but I'll be heading that way some time close to seven. Duc is still at the Pond, so I'll be on the KTM.
Out, I'll be in Louisville 'til Thursday. Say 'ciao' to the owner for me ;)
I think he would be up for any night.
Tuesdays were in anticipation of getting a crowd, we've only been getting a handful so I doubt he would mind moving it to Thurs.

So is this happening tonight? I don't mind getting stuck with Ben on date night, but there's a lot of fish in the sea (and I wouldn't be caught dead riding pregnant dog on a KTM).
lol Fecker!!
As I mentioned in the sms, we're pushing this week's meet back to Thursday again. Still going to Sfizi's though.
Alright, I'm in for this evening. Be gentle boys, it's my first time. Where is this place with all the consonants, sfizi?
I might be out this week, won't know until later today.. .:-(
Sfizi Cafe
10826 lee highway
Fairfax, VA 22030
Thursdays are usually bad for me, but I'm tentative tonight. If anything I'll be late.

Folks start to trickle in around 7-730'ish. Some later than that. Depends how hungry and thirsty you are.
Not sure yet - waiting on a couple of other things first.
Weather's looking a touch spotty for riding... >:(
I was still planning on heading down... anyone going to be there?
A friend once asked me what happens when you ride a motorcycle in the rain. My inelegant response was "you get wet".
I will. I'll cage it though if it's looking to wet...
Well one is better than none. See you shortly.
Change of plans. Just now getting out of the office and checked Google Traffic. F That. Black line all the way down 95, 495, and 66.
I'm in for the next one, riding in the rain kinda sucks, riding in the rain in stop and go traffic for two hours to go 50 miles is over my pain quota.
Ok, looks like tonight is a wash. Several tentatives, but it looks like the weather killed it.
sfizi next tuesday then?

Yep, we'll do another one in the district some time soon. Trying to make sure that everyone gets a chance to have something local. Next week will be a Tuesday meet, and at Sfizi's, due to this week's meet getting rained out. After that we can either do the district or maybe head somewhere NE so Chris can come out.
Quick bump, tomorrow night will be down at Sfizi's, in Fairfax. Weather looks about perfect, so we won't be getting rained out. Anybody planning on coming out?
I'm out this week with my (hopefully) last Tues work commitment.

tell them you have an attack of highly infectious hemorrhoids.
i'm in.I'm out. Boy has some kind of respiratory problem, and the first appointment we could get is at 7 pm. I didn't know they take appointments that late, but the alternative is to take him to the ER, which just won't happen.
Ok, was anyone else going to make it out?
I can't make it tonight, co-worker from out of town is visiting, wife and I are taking her out for sushi.
Oh well, guess it's not happening then...
After much woe, looks like I'll be back on the roads shortly.
But on the proper topic - let's set a plan for next week. The planning has been going on later and later.
Ok, let's do it in the district this time. Any suggestions?
Adams Morgan
Southwest Waterfront
Georgetown waterfront
National Harbor
Iron Horse Taproom in Chinatown

Ok, so let's do it for next Thursday. I'd like to get a pretty decent turnout for this one, as it's been a while.
I don't know squat about places in the District, so I'm going to leave the selection to you. [thumbsup]
Seriously? I have a social life like Mongo...We'll be hitting a McDonalds.
Just kidding.
I'm open to suggestions from the peanut gallery.
I might be on the later side.
if we do the district...as much as I like most of the areas you are suggesting...I think Adam's Morgan serves us best with the bike ogling and chatter that usually occurs at these kinds of events...and so we can see who's pulling up and when and all...
have a preferred spot in AdMo?
Asylum
Thursday - Asylum? Sounds like an excellent weekend warm-up to me.
+1 for Asylum and bike ogling! [thumbsup]
Check, check & check. We don't have to actually go to Asylum to park there. I'm partial to the Reef roof (across street).

Adams Morgan def. has the choice spot with mcy-only parking right out front. I do like the idea of being outside if the weather is warm(ish) so a rooftop dealie would help. Why's DC gotta be so stuck up and not allow us to stand on the sidewalk drinking beah?
Thursday night means I can make it (lucky yous) - but may also mean AM will be a tad crowded.
I may be able to make this. [drink]
Seems Asylum is a popular spot. As such, the weekly meet up next week will be on Thursday (9/30) at Asylum in Adams Morgan.

How do you keep 2 bikes in your parking garage? You must not have a car. I have to jam mine into a space by a random column. I wouldn't have a way to even keep 2 bikes unless I kept 1 of them somewhere else.

Hmmmmm...well about that parking situation. We've got a tandem spot with a car and a jeep (that I'm supposed to be selling) in it so there's room to put one bike between them and then there's the usual motorcycle spot that I've been squatting in for the last couple of months since it's easier to get out of in the morning.
I got tired of my bike parking situation so I bought a house with a garage.

Welcome to CAM, Autohag. Asylum 7:30
Hopefully some of the DC peeps that've been scarce will show (I should talk). Going to be a beautiful night.

I think 696 is planning to come. Don't know anything about smokeyduc. I don't know if any of these other folks are from DC...all you damn suburban riff-raff!
I would be one of those peeps. I plan on coming out at 7:30. And since Chemico lives across the street, if I see him pulling out at the same time, I will be forced to roll up on him, remove my glove, slap him in the helmet with it, and challenge him to a motorcycle duel. [laugh]

Yeah no kidding! Those buggers are all over that side of Rock Creek at night. And upper GW Prkway around 1-3am, bejesus.
The biggest thing I worry about is the messed up entrance to the park at that point. While they've covered up the potholes and what-not from last winter, it's still really wavy and bumpy where you turn in. Taking that left to head northbound there was a nice sized hole right in the middle.
Oh, that and the Virginia drivers going 20 trying to read their GPS so they can figure out how to get out of there. [evil]
I was going through Rock Creek this week at a spirited pace and came around a corner. I hit a nice patch of concrete that sent my front airborne for a split second. My steering wheel did a little quick back and forth too. I thought I was going to go into a tank slapper for a second. Scared the crap out of me.

For those who haven't done Rhodes before. They have a small lot, so we attempt to obnoxiously glom any of the closest spots - Generally going a bike a spot for the 1st couple we can get control of.
Also, there is 1 street spot right out front, and some marging areas of the side walk that have been put to use in the past.

http://www.lauriolplaza.com/ (http://www.lauriolplaza.com/)
Good mexican, good margaritas and dos equis on tap [beer]
Oh yeah, since I know you guys are beer connoisseurs, RFD in chinatown could be good too. We could stop by Iron Horse Taproom too if you want to look at bike related stuff.
http://www.lovethebeer.com/rfd.html (http://www.lovethebeer.com/rfd.html)
http://www.ironhorsedc.com/ (http://www.ironhorsedc.com/)
Lauriol is nice, but I am going to rule that one out as parking is non-existant. It's gotten to the point where I think most people will be coming by car, so we need to fact that in.
They have valet parking on the side of the restaurant actually. It would probably be pretty easy to find street parking too since it doesn't get as crowded as summer time right now.
I guess anywhere in the city doesn't really have much parking, so if folks are worried about that, it might make more sense to do it in nova.
Oh yeah, my other suggestion was going to be H street (like beergarten Haus or somewhere else fun out there). [drink]

well...if we are talking H St, why not think about http://www.thehstreetcountryclub.com/ (http://www.thehstreetcountryclub.com/)
I have yet to go there (but been REALLY wanting to), and I think a round of mini-golf indoors would be a hoot!!!
another possible place might be Union Jacks in Bethesda http://www.unionjacksbethesda.com/ (http://www.unionjacksbethesda.com/) as they have nice pool tables, dart boards, and decent selection of drinkery and ample nearby parking as well as the option for folks to walk over from the Metro if they'de rather...

+1 for Union Jack's, metro's nearby if you need and there's a parking garage nearby if you prefer. Also lots of other places around there if we want to change.
Sounds good to me - but I'll say H St Country Club probably won't work: too little seating and lots of competition for the putt putt golf. IMHO it was way overpriced too.
Another thought for central location + awesome beer is Pizza Paradiso Dupont. I *think* they'd reserve a table (otherwise there *will* be a wait). Up-side: right near the Metro. Bad: parking's not so great (unless you're on bike). Good: everybody like pizza. Bad: not everybody likes pizza.
And looks like they just opened up an Old Town location and they're doing a Scottish thing: http://www.eatyourpizza.com/2010-scottish-walk (http://www.eatyourpizza.com/2010-scottish-walk)
14 Scottish (Style) beers on tap. Anyone feel like reconnoitering tomorrow evening? You know - for research purposes!
Old Town? Scottish beer? Old Town?
I think yes is the answer I'm looking for!
As far as next week goes: Union Jack has 50% off on sandwiches and salads on both Tues and Thurs. Just saying.
Alrighty - so tomorrow (Sat night) at Pizza Paradiso Old Town: 124 King St. Alexandria to check out the Scottish beer selection, and possibly the Scottish pizza.
The beer list looks impressive: http://www.eatyourpizza.com (http://www.eatyourpizza.com)
Consider it a chance to talk about where next week's official meet-up will be. And kilts. There will probably be talk of kilts. Maybe Ducatis. Who knows?
(Note: Zoom, this was not an secret request for you to show up in a utili-kilt, no matter how "in theme" it would be. [evil])
I'm already committed tomorrow night, so prolly won't make it. If you guys stay out later please post up (or txt) your location; I might be able to make a guest appearance.
Regarding next week, I think Union Jack's (Bethesda) is in the running... And FWIW I've never had a bad time at Union Jack's Ballston.
Depending on how late you guys are out tonight, I could make it my third rendezvous of the evening.
Cool. There's a chance that a Scostralian friend of mine might show up as well.

They're def. not losing any money on that place judging by the crowd.

AS AN ADVISORY....I just had to drive the parts truck which is an 06 Ford F150 long bed 2wd down to a customer halfway between Sibley Hospital and Georgetown...it is gittin slicker than snot...I;d advise for safety's sake not goin to the tavern tonight...
Yea, I agree. That area was pretty slick when I left work. It's probably just going to be getting worse as the evening wears on...
I'm out.
Yea, the commute home was obnoxious.
It pains me to cancel (being from Boston, where this is an average winter day, and I drive a Jeep) but it's way too risky being out on the roads this evening. I saw 2 collisions in 5 miles. Ugh.
It's not so much your, or my driving (Hooks thumb) it's their driving... Coming back from lunch we saw 3 fender bender and 1 guy with his cars tail in the air after going into some huge ditch... on a straight section of road ???
Just took a little trip on the sidewalk on the way home in the cage...on purpose. Is it really necessary for you to block all the lanes when you park your fire truck in the middle of the road? really!?! [bang] [bang] Seriously, the hood of the car wasn't even crumpled and all you have to do is look at a Hyundai for that to happen.

The Brickskeller was a DC institution. It was the go-to place for beer before it became fashionable, but was also famous for being out of the first 5 things you picked, and the gross bathrooms and general mustiness. The same people opened RFD downtown, and I think wanted to sell the building the Brickskeller was in.
I was there once and can confirm that it was kinda gross and while they were (are) listed in the Guinness Book of Records for largest selection, I had to keep trying before they had one I picked in stock. :)
The new owners have supposedly cleaned up the place. Hopefully they've sped up the service.

The place I'm thinking is Sine' Irish Pub (website (http://www.sineirishpub.com/cms_arlington/)). Food has been good and a typical beer selection for an Irish theme. And on a different topic, Steve and I have been talking about trying to get a MotoGP meet going and were trying to think of a good spot to put one together. I started thinking that the owner of Sfizi is Italian, rides a Ducati and just might be willing to host a Sunday afternoon session (assuming he has either SpeedHD and a decent sized telly) to have some food/drinks and watch the race. We would have to get enough people together to make it worth his efforts though. Let me know if anyone is interested, and I'll reach out to him if we get enough people to commit.

I'm a little north of DC but have family in RIC so travel down that way fairly regularly. Once I get comfortable with this 748 I'm definitely up for weekly meets!

We're supposed to get an inch of snow tomorrow, so while I'd be interested in a meet up on Sunday, I don't think it's going to happen.

And as far as the meet up idea goes, we mainly discuss the week day evening meets in here. Cages were the transport mechanism of choice for the last few due to the temps, but we'll be riding to them again here shortly. Might actually have to make the first re-visit a Sea Shanty night.

Those seats were worth the wait! We make great parking judges. [clap]
And that was a pretty tame night of watching parking in Shirlington. Weekends it gets to be a non stop extravaganza of crappy parking jobs. I love the folks who totally over crank it and manage to come in almost perpendicular to the curb.

Don't think many non-BAD folk will show up to that one. Not this early in the season anyhow.
Watch this space, as we will plan something more CAM-centric if enough people show interest.
Thursday evening is Cinco De Mayo...so watch out for the amatuer drinkers that are sure to flood the gates...I know I am helping the local running store with mixing Margarita's for all the runners after the Fun Run...

I've got plenty of other pics of me doing stupid crap too. How about this one..... getting on base (I'm military) with my helmet on. You can never be too careful going through checkpoints these days :)

As long as you're not into peeing on peoples tires...

That's St Pats, as it comes first. Cinco is St. Pats fun, but somehow less popular cousin.
No bullshit excuses this time. Let's meet up: Thursday night. Somebody pick a spot.
Ben, what's that place by you - outside seating, make their own beer?
Capital City Brewing, in Shirlington. Great place to sit and watch people park. [thumbsup]
I'm waiting to hear from an old friend, if we hang this week I'm out. Otherwise I'll try and head down.

Hey Jerry, welcome! As Zooom said, you're halfway between two areas for us, so pick your poison. ;D
Let me know if you feel like making your way down into DC.
I work in Columbia which is roughly a stone's throw away from Ft. Meade. Any interest in meet up in this area from the CAM crowd? I have an AWESOME place for it.

Shut your mouth. I'm trying to have fun, not get laid by an uptight Columbianite. Maybe we'll take Ben there one night. It's like fish in a barrel.
Frisco Grille on the other hand is the bee's knees. The owner races and there is a bike display in the front window.
Ok, before things get WAY off track...
Is there still any interest in meeting up tonight in Shirlington?
Plan to be there 'bout 7.
I was planing on it. Maybe all these suggestions could be for next week?

Well so far I've seen Ben and Massimo as the only other interested parties for Shirlington. Columbia is just as far for me, so no big deal. What exact place are you talking about? What do people think about a last-minute change in destination?

OK - back to yesterday's future: today!
So tonight - Shirlington at 7 - 7:30ish. Cap City Brewing, where something about texting happened that was embarrasing to someone and it's fun to watch people park, and there might be a wait because it's Thursday.
Are you all meeting at Capital City Brew at 7 still...is it up in Arlington area?

sooo, you guys meet on Thursday nights. Can't do that tonight, but next week I can plan for it.
Just need directions from Meade. and no one give me shit for showing up in a chevy malibu instead of on a duc.
The good thing about this group is we pick different spots, and tend to alternate between NOVA, DC, and MD - really depends on who takes initiative and declares where the meetup will be. Looks like Artful has declared next Thursday "Columbia Day".
Sadly no guarantees on the shit-talking. Lots of that going on around here. [evil]

You do realize that Jerry lives in Germany, right? That's where his bike is.

Does anyone plan on coming up tonight or would you rather bag it and just get together on Sunday at the brit bike show?
Speaking for myself, the weather forecast has put a damper on it for me.
Agreed. Let's bag it for tonight and I'll see most of you fools on Sunday. Anyone that has my cell give me a shout. The BAD crowd should get getting there around 11.

Well if the festivities are better inside don't make any changes on my account. Even if the woman comes it won't be for too long because she turns into a pumpkin pretty early. We'll make the assumption for now that she isn't coming.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Lars offered to let me use his truck as well, and I'll probably take him up on that. I plan on moving most of the smaller stuff myself over a few days, and hiring a few guys to move the heavy stuff. I don't really want to try moving the heavy stuff with my back the way it is, and wouldn't feel right asking/bribing friends to help if I can't pitch in an equal effort.

For those asking about motorcycle training in the area.
Here is a link for the Quantico Drivers Training. They have an Advanced Cornering Clinic at the end of each month for active duty, reserve military, contractors, dependants and government civilian employees. The Clinic focuses on body position, lean angles, braking, and overall improving your riding skills...best of all it is free!!
They also have Sportbike Rider, Experienced, and Basic Rider Courses monthly. Great group of guys and a few have raced, have extensive training experience including previous Keith Code instructors ect.

From the course signup page: "***Contractors are not eligible to participate in these courses at this time." I assume non-government civilians rank even lower on the totem pole...
I tried calling today about more details and see if they would entertain a "cousin" in the family.

Any plans for a meetup for dinner Thursday night (tomorrow)? Shirlington??? Either Capitol City or the mexican restaurant across the street for change of pace?
I could be down for some mexican.
Might not be able to get out tomorrow. Not sure if the SD will be completed yet, and will need to pick it up if it is. I've also got someone possibly coming around to give me an estimate on some paint work that I want to get done.
One way or the other though, Shirlington is a bit played out. The parking sucks ass, and it's impossible to get a table now that we're in the middle of summer. And as far as Mexican is concerned, Uncle Julio's down next to Wegman's blows Guapos out of the water!!
Well I am open for any other suggestions, places and times....as long as it is nice I will be on the S4R since parts for the Ape will be here tomorrow.

DanTheMan is crashing at my place -- anyone wanna get together tonight or tomorrow? I'm not sure what his schedule is, but I suspect he'd be down for a meet up ;D Anywhere in NoVA or DC with bike parking should work.
Rhodeside?
I'm helping part swap some Superbikes tonight so I put a humble request in for tomorrow. I'm down for wherever.
So, any other input? Rhodeside tomorrow (Wednesday), just like old times?

Jim, what did you think of the place? I've been there a couple of times now. I wasn't too impressed with the food. They have some good beer selection though.

I've been there a couple of times as well (and even ate there free as a "good neighbor" gesture) and found the food to be pretty good...but the beer is better. I put it into the category of all the other restaurants in our neighborhood: some times/some things are a hit and some are a miss.
But the beer and drinks are good!
Did I mention that the beer and drinks are good? ;D
They should have sent one of those good neighbor gestures to my building too! I'd agree with you. I had a really good milk stout there.

Yeah, I remember that. The restaurant was supposed to originally have an entrance from within your building or something like that I remember.

I work on Quantico, but live up in Woodbridge. If the weather is good Thursday afternoon, perhaps around 6pm at BWW in Woddbridge? I work at Bldg 2006 (H&HS Building) pm me for my info if you want to grab some food and drink. Anyone else?
I'm on Quantico as well, at the new Russell-Knox Bldg. on Telegraph Rd and also live near Woodbridge.

Good times last night! Next week as well?
Next Wednesday, the 19th, is tentatively scheduled for Lost Dog Cafe on Columbia Pike. But that's because us Arlington guys are lazy. If the venue is right I'm sure we can be motivated...
Someone missed out on his free beer. Maybe we go to him next time?
For those who didn't show, you missed a very educational evening. I learned I should not park any vehicle or trailer I own, and wish to keep title of in the same county Randy resides in or 48 hours later it will be his
Sorry I missed the soiree - a friend was in town and picked last night as the one to meet up.
Nothing wrong with utilizing the laws set forth to clean up junk laying around while making a profit as well. Just glad I don't live in the district

For me, Wednesday good, Thursday bad. I might be able to switch things up though.
I am flexible on the day..even Tues eve is fine. Whenever we can get the most peeps to show. Place???? Shirlington? downtown? tapas? chinatown Irish pub?
I'm always partial to Arlington or Alexandria.
We could rehash a meet spot from back when meetin' up was new for the group

It was a tiny riot tonight. This guy, Chris, was there on a ST4 but it was pure coincidence. I told him to check out CAM.
Anyone meeting anywhere tonight? I need to get out with some like minded people.
There might be a few from my ride list showing up at Santini's in Oakton on Thursday, we all have different brands so some may show on ducs and some not. - Gene

Doesn't matter to me (OK, not McDonalds), somewhere central of course - either D.C. or maybe Arlington / Alexandria? Anyone have a suggestion? Capitol City in Shirlington is right near 395, so that's easy.
If you decide on Shirlington there's a few more places than just cap city now. A 'copper wood tavern' opened the other week. There's Sam becketts and busboys and poets too.
Copper Wood Tavern..... 1 dollar oysters every mon-fri 4-7pm.....
I'm in for Shirlington or nearby.

Copious. There's several Multi level lots within one block of the strip that are open acess after business hours
Luckily the weather report is looking better for Thursday night.
Are people liking Copper Wood Tavern over Cap City?
7:00? 7:30?
Machts nicht. I'm 50/50 anyway.
I am 51/49, but I'm not saying which way.
Well let's say Cap City - a known quantity and I just saw the burger prices at Copper Wood - I think Cap City is cheaper. Maybe. :)

There's no good way. During non-rush-hour, I would opt to go N on Rt. 1 through Alexandria, then S/W on 395. Or 1 to 7 (King St.) to 395. I'm not sure which is least nightmarish during rush hour.
One other option, though probably no better would be to get off at Telegraph, go west on Duke briefly and turn north on Quaker which will bring to you the shirlington circle that takes you over, or onto 395 depending on what your preference is.
Anyone up for Dec 5th dinner/meetup? Open for suggestions of places to eat and drink.

At least the GP Bike and classic bike display was cool as well as your buddies from the Triumph Club. I like seeing the goon bikes that are absolutely useless and how a MF'R gets a tv and 10 speakers on a motorcycle and think it looks awesome
I'm out. The girlfriend wants to spend a long weekend somewhere warm and who am I to deny? I will have to suffer being in Cancun that weekend. :'(
The Army of Darkness will be in the BMW booth with last year's WERA Endurance bike and fun videos of leaving rubber lines at 150+ at Barber.
I'm going Saturday, staying overnight at Renaissance, will probably hit Cap City Brewery or Cuba Libre for dinner. Hope to checkout the new M1200S, won't be able to sit on it but I can at least look at it. My M900 is getting some miles and I enjoy it so much that I want to save it for local and day trips, so need something else to take on trips to Barber, SE Ohio etc... Also want to check out some of those new heated gloves that are battery powered, anyway lots to see for me. I'll probably be in Victory gear since I'm the new MA Rep for the VMC, actually I'm thinking about wearing a Victory Jacket, Ducati Shirt, and HD Hat - Lol! Hope to see some of your there. - Gene

Threw a leg over both, the 'R' is really tall and has a 21" front. Both have an 18" rear tire which, I think, limits the DS tire choices somewhat. The non-R model was tricked out with electronically adjustable suspension, heated seat, and other fancy bits that I don't really find appealing. But I guess since BMW has them, KTM must as well or people might think less of it... Personally, I'd be happy with the base model with a muffler that doesn't double as a boat anchor and a bashplate that could. ;D
