The jazzfest ran from the weekrnd of April 26th to May 4.  I only got to see Santana on May 4.  I rode down on a Saturday and went home on Monday.  I have the long version written up somewhere but the short version is, it was a 1K ride total, with slab riding, speeding ticket, bug attack, rain and getting lost with unplanned side trips on nice secondary roads trying to get back to the interstate.  I was delayed 2 hours by the rain and scenic routes on the way back home.  Almost made it to Houston ;D.

Santana was the lead up to the Neville brothers who traditionally close the whole thing.  The stage was on an open field which was part of the horse race track.  The field was damp and stunk.  Santana played the oldies and some new ones.  The music was great but the politiking was lousy.  I did not pay good money to listen to it.  Why can't they just shut up and sing? 

The food in NOLA is always a treat.  Sorry you weren't able to make it especially if you like the rain :(.

No No No, The rearsets will be black!
Finished modding the sprocket cover (drilled amd dremeled the slots and painted it black.  Also painted the belt covers black last night, should be back on the bike tonight.  Like I said in an earlier post, the bellypan will be here friday.  So Sat, it will look different again.  Almost back to the new LYD!!!  wt:

Despite the cool, brisk wind we took our Ducs out for a nice 31 mile ride this morning.  [thumbsup]  We have a nice route that has some curves in it and gets me up to 60 mph.  We both are still getting use to this type of riding and I still get palm pain from trying to keep the throttle steady.  Hopefully Jeff can loosen that setting up when it goes in for it's 600 mile check up.

Time to walk the dog, water the garden and then we are taking the Hogs out this afternoon.  I'm avoiding the resterants today (too depressing for me) so it's steaks on the bar-bee when we get back and rewind the Cubs game.  Ya'll have a great Sunday  [wine]

Try supporting youself with your core muscles instead of your arms.

More miles on the Duc [moto]

Also, try "flappin" your elbows every once in awhile.
Works believe it or not.

Helps train you to relax those arm and wrist muscles.

Plus it makes your Duc fly faster. ;D

Try using a "crampbuster" (http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x2/notacop01/cb.jpg)  it will cure your death grip (I had the same problem, and it worked great). Also like Bryant said use your core muscles to support you, squeeze the tank with your knees. Also keep your elbows bent, it  takes some strain off your wrist. Although your bikes seating position isn't as leaned over as a SBK it's alot more than your HD. Once you get used to the different riding position you will find the Duc pretty comfortable. You could also try some bar risers if you want a more upright riding position.

Yeah, I'll "second" all of the advice so far, especially the Cramp Buster (Moto Liberty has them for $11).  I've had one since I learned how to ride - works wonders.  The other thing I've noticed that helps me avoid loading up my wrists and hands once I've been on the bike for a while is to pull my elbows in towards the tank just slightly.  It seems to break up the path for upper body weight moving inadvertently down to the wrists.

DFW/DMF riders have good upper body posture [laugh]

I think she has tried the cramp buster before without a lot of luck... if I remember right. You know, you might consider the bar riser set that Speedymoto makes. It replaces the stock bar clamps for the Ducati/Magura handlebars and as I recall it raises the bars 1.75" higher. I have a set but have never mounted them on my S2R1000 Monster... not yet. That would take a whole lot of weight off your wrists and hands. A whole lot! They look absolutely stock, if you didn't know the bar clamps had been changed you would not even notice it. Total bolt on deal, no "heavy lifting", no expensive shop labor. Check it out! [thumbsup]

I've got some Eastern Cycle bar risers for my soon to be delivered stock triple and bars.  The rise will be 1 1/2." 

I'm just wondering if the stock cables will be long enough to reach the new bar height... Eastern Cycles claims so but I guess I'll just have to wait and see.  Any cable "shortage" could be even be more pronounced at 1 3/4."

I'd be curious to know if anyone else has had experience with stock cables being too short for bar risers.

Thanks for the suggestions guys and I do, do all of the above, but laying some of my body weight on the bar is not the total problem.  My throttle is as stiff as (self edit).  There is not 1 mm of play like I have in my Hog, so when I get to speed the pressure I must exhert to keep it from rising or falling is alot for me.  I have been working on my hand strength and I'm alot stronger than I was back in October.  Hubby is going to get the risers for both our bikes when they are in stock again.  His trottle has some play in it, but mine has none so hopefully Jeff can do something down the line.

We only made it to Rhome on 114 before heading up to 407 to get back home.  The winds were really wicket today so it was not a nice putt on the Hogs.  Got home for a drink by the pool and then turned on the TV to see the Cubs win.   [thumbsup]

Well the tank is off and going to the painter tomorrow.   I am expecting the chain on wed.  so thursday it looks like I will be doing an eastside invasion.  Stop by the powder coater and then the warehome to drop everything off.  Anybody wanna do an early lunch around that side of Dallas??  I can be over on the eastside aroung 11:00 so we could do lunch at 11:30-12:00.  But I have to be back in arlington at 3:30 for work.  All next week I am on second shift.

They have a display room with a ton of motorcycle and car stuff.

There should be enough cable slack for the Speedymoto 1.75" height increase, it may take a bit of fiddling but they say it's there. If Speedymoto says it's Christmas, hang up your stockings... at least that's true in my dealings with them. That's a lot of handlebar height increase, that kind of increase has got to make a huge difference in wrist/hand pressure. I have changed bars on several of my bikes to Heli Bars due to the whole broken neck/doesn't bend any more thing and those slight changes have resulted in huge comfort benefits for me. There is no way that your hand/wrist problems (as bad as they are to you) can be as bad as my broken neck/destroyed back... so if I can find relief I will make it a personal mission to find a way so you too can find comfort riding your Ducati. Hey, I have some of the world's most uncomfortable sport bikes so if I can do it so can you. We will find a way! [thumbsup] Monsters are not that uncomfortable... if you think they are I'll let you ride my 916 or 996! [laugh] That will set you straight for sure! ;D

Well today the yellow chain came, now I have all the parts for randy.
The rearset are off and ready to go the powder coater!!  Now I just have to drop them off and eat, then the waiting game starts!!  Should be put back together next week and over at the warehome by thursday or friday for Randy to service her for the HC ride!! (fingers crossed)

I have a chain tool kit if you care to crack open a few beers and give it shoot, not that hard. =)

i talked to Randy today, and, though i think i may have been a little frustratingly vague as far as what i wanted him to do (just make it run good and be dependable!!), he's on the job!  [thumbsup]  i think as long as i can be confident that it's not overheating (it approaches 300 degrees F. with the bodywork all on) to a danger-point and she starts up without too much hesitation, i'm good to go!  otherwise it runs great, shifts great....no complaints.  i just feel better having Randy give it a look-over.

Good plan, being new and all.  Randy can check the important stuff.

I LOVE the old '91-'98 SS's... they were a high water mark in the Duc lineup.

If I had to get rid of all my bikes and keep JUST ONE... my '97 900SS/CR/hotrod would be IT.

That SS is not is the best of shape the plastics are pretty dinged up and there are a few areas of rust on the frame on the left side. The clutch has been replaced and the carbs rebuilt as well. More info after sushi

you could always do sharkskins!   [thumbsup]  or maybe sand/repaint the plastics.... and tapeworks sells the stickersets.  you could do a black/gold edition SS...!  that would be freaking badass...

Man it didn't take long for the DFB stuff to start again.

The price is pretty close, but the work and money I'll have to put into it is kind of sketchy. It'll need a valve adjustment right off the bat, probably a new chain/sprockets, clutch side switches, and slave cylinder. The forks/shock are in decent shape, but are probably due for a rebuild. The plastics look ok from afar but up close look so-so. I told the owner I'd mull it over a day or two.

The clutch pack is new. It has less that 600 miles on it.  I'm going to see how much aftermarket skins would cost. And btw the tire on it is a 180 instead of the 170. The stock brembo wheels leave you wanting the marchenisis. It does have the FBF pipes on it and it sound good. There also some odd discoloration in the motor fins

So, not great but not horrible. Sounds like you're taking your time.

well, you know i'm always up for helping with any wrench-turning man...i have both stands and even some tools!  and i may actually be changing out my sprockets and/or chain soon....it's got a 42 in the rear (i think it's new) and stock is 37...i might go back to something a little closer to stock.  and i think that black repaint is a sweet option...not sure how much the paint/clearcoat would cost...the entire decal set from tapeworks is $160.

The black and gold SS would look badass.  Especially if I went the Öhlins route down the road. For the price I think its a decent buy, but it'll take some work to get her back to her former glory

well you have another bike and a cage....and a garage!  hell i'll even bring some guinness over for some wrenching.

Rich, I want to compare it to your SS. Yours is in better overall shape so I'm using that as a baseline on the order of repairs/restores.  Road worthiness is my top priority then the asthetics will be saved for the winter.

i'm all about road worthiness also since mine will be a daily driver, believe me... cosmetic-wise all the body work had almost zero flaws....extremely good shape.  i'm wanting to pull the clutch probably after HC trip and see how it looks...maybe replace it with something aftermarket and lighter.  besides the overheating (which may just be me being not used to a fully faired bike...except for the high idling  :-\ ) it shifts and runs great.  i don't know how practical this is man, but you're more than welcome to stop by the warehome and take mine out to see how it stacks up.  you'll just have to coordinate with Randy/Scott   [thumbsup]  they're pretty accommodating guys, though.   ;)

I was really disapointed with the 900SS. I finally rode it today, it was sputtering on the throttle and kept wanting to die at idle. The suspension was just about shot, even my weight   made the bike sag more than it should have.  Its unfortunate that its been neglected as much as it has been.  I liked the seating position and the brakes, but the motor troubles plus the plastics being in sub-par condition makes me have to pass on this one. It would be a good project bike.  But certainly not for 3k

Wow, you know the owners of Toshio's! How cool is that? I have eaten there since 1995 when friends at the Courthouse took me there for the first time. It is one of our favorite places to eat! We drove over there last week to have lunch. It's a once or twice a month lunch date for Jen and I. I don't do sushi but everything I have had there is killer! I have lots of Courthouse sushi friends that love Toshio's. [thumbsup] Every time we go we always say that a Dallas version would do really well... wish it was closer! Please, check it out. Saturday was murder.  [puke]   The heat was oppressive and toward the end of the 45 minute race I started getting chills, which I understand is NOT a good thing. I was hanging on for dear life just trying to stay in the lead group and I ended up 12th out of about 30.

Sundays experience was much better and I was ready to handle the heat. I was able to keep my heart rate at a manageable level which made for better judgment all around. My motorcycle handling skills are really helping me on cornering to where I can attack when others are slowing down. My skinny legs don't compete well in pack sprint finishes so I decided to try for a breakaway finish. With 3 laps to go (1 mile course) I found myself with some added momentum on a corner, so I flew off the front and broke away from the pack.

Imagine this scenario. You've just pissed off an angry swarm of wasps and you're running for your life as fast as you possibly can. 3 laps to go until your safe.

• 3 laps to go - The swarm is a good distance off. Heart rate is high from the initial sprint to run away. Gotta keep up the speed, but gotta get my heart rate down. No one to draft off of. Can't wait for the tail wind.
• 2 laps to go - The swarm is still far off. This just might work!   Or are they toying with me knowing they can reel me back in? The "hive mind" is unpredictable. Is there in-fighting among them to decide who should work to chase me or are they organizing into a single leviathan to chase me down. I'm only going 19mph into the headwind. Am I slowing down? just trying to keep my cool.
• last lap - Oh god, here they come. They're getting closer. The onslaught is inevitable. Only a half lap left and I'm about spent. The momentum of 30 riders is like a freight train bearing down on me. Ok, time to switch tactics. Rest and recover as soon as possible so I can sprint for the finish when they catch me. 500 meters to go and they're on me. I have to switch into overdrive to catch a wheel as guys start to pass me. By the time I've matched the pace I've drifted back to about 10th. 200 meters to go. Time to put the hammer down. Out of the saddle. Legs screaming in pain, hear rate through the roof - I am NOT backing down. Others are toast so I gain a few more places as I cross the finish line in 9th place.

So yeah, that's sort of what it feels like. I really thought I had a chance to keep away from the pack and I almost did. After working on my own for 2.5 laps I feel good about having enough left to place in the top 10.

I'll get points for these races towards a competition called the Texas Cup which is ongoing throughout the season. I'm currently in 7th place, but it's a close race and I could conceivably jump to 3rd after this weekend. We'll see.

Charles, I've still got the factory front fairing and Zero Gravity windscreen.  I'll use it I think on long trips or when it's cold.  I've built up quite a box of alternate parts for this bike... it's a convertible  [laugh]

I told Cory that your set up (ST screen) looks like it will function better that what I have and looks better too.  So after all the tweaking on the CF fairing, if your fairing/windscreen works better then I'll give up on what I have and get a screen like yours.

I did a lot of cruising around on t he freeway yesterday with the Dart flyscreen, and ended up taking it off - wind blast hit me right at helmet level  :-\   

Spent an hour at home swapping everything over to the factory cowl/turn signals with Z.G. Touring windscreen - it really is the best solution for highway cruising.

I flipped the sticker plate and put it facing the wheel on the backside of the license plate. He began to tell me about all of the "wrong" places to put the sticker--front forks, chain guard, etc....

He said that it has to be visible from the rear. Here is the citation from the Texas Transportation Code:

§ 548.255.  ATTACHMENT OR PRODUCTION OF INSPECTION
CERTIFICATE.  (a)  An inspection certificate shall be attached to
or produced for a vehicle in the manner required by department rule.
   (b)  The department shall:

I don't know about engine ice but water wetter is a pretty common replacement for antifreeze at the track.  Is that about the same stuff?

Water Wetter & Engine Ice are VERY different products. From my extensive research (on the interweb), Engine Ice seems to be preferred...

Motored down to AMS in Alvaredo today for a visit. They have that carbonfiber MH900 and it's spectacular. What a cool bike. Plus a couple Desmos. I forgot how much cool toys they have down there.

I then had to go to an eye doctor appointment in Plano, which I think is 300 miles away. Even with toll booths I made it in 45 minutes. My time machine is working real good.

i think i'm about 50% down downloading this...i kept the PC off today though (too hot in there....   :( ); it was able to get 50% just last night.  should be done tonight.  i downloaded a racer called GRID last night as well (800kb/s!!    :o  yay bittorrent!!  :D )  pretty fun so far...bunch of tracks from europe, some that you see in motoGP (GT racing)..."tuner" stuff in japan for drifting, and city tracks in the US with muscle cars thrown in.  pretty polished looking game so far.

still not as fun as shooting friends in the head, though.

The Speedymoto top triple plus the Dan Kyle Öhlins damper kit is part of the plan. I think the Showa forks and shock are better than me still so I'll stick with them for now.

What kind of hardware is required? I have a mac with a Bluetooth mouse. Will that kick Rossi's ass?

motogp 2007 isn't too demanding; you should be able to play it on just about anything that isn't more than a couple years old.

GRID requires considerably more heft in the graphics department, however.  lots of fun to play, though (especially online...and drunk!  ;D )...it's a good part arcade feeling, and good part realistic.  i got in some crazy barrel-roll flips and crashes yesterday and miraculously landed on my wheels (sometimes) and kept going...though it drove like shit.   [thumbsup]

i happen to have a BFG GeForce 7600GT (256MB) OC video card that i no longer need.  it's PCI express (x16) and comes factory overclocked (that's what BFG does).  i think it actually has a lifetime warranty...BFG used to do that, i think they still do.  it's also very easy to overclock the card further for a bit more performance.  it works great, i just decided to take the plunge on a new ATI card.

i also have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (socket AM2) CPU (dual core) if anyone is needing an upgrade from a smaller AM2 processor.  just let me know, i'll include the AMD cpu cooling fan also.  it's never been overclocked...i just ran it stock.  i found a great deal on an AMD phneom processor yesterday and no longer need the Athlon.

So I couldn't sleep night before last, so I went outside around midnight and saw this spider about 10 feet up with a huge web.  The spider was about the size of a half dollar and doing a killer (pun intended) job of collecting dinner.

Apparently industrial velcro is no match for the vibes on the 848.

I mounted my garage door opener under the nose fairing to ease the in/out of my apartment complex.  About half-way to work this morning, I feel the opener hit my left hand and bounce off onto the superslab.  2 openers down....  [bang]



Side note:
I passed IP and Anthony from the 59ers on Garland Rd yesterday.  I think they were about to hit the pubs... I was on my way back home from work [bang]

Wow, surprised the velcro didn't work. Have done the same thing on my scoots. Velcro is some tough s#@t. Did it separate at the velcro or did the double stick tape give up where it sticks to the fairing and the opener? I've had that failing tape problem on my cars. There have been several car burglaries in my neighborhood where they only wanted the garage door opener to get into the garage, house, etc. Since I park my cars outside in the driveway I now take the openers in the house with me. :P Don't have to worry about the velcro or the tape anymore.

Stopped putting the opener in my jacket pocket on rides too. Was in the driveway warming the bike up and when I threw a leg over the seat to take off it somehow mashed the button on the opener. Presto... up goes the garage door. If I hadn't been looking in that direction to see it I would have ridden off into the distance leaving my whole garage and house exposed! >:(

The velcro came apart, not the stick on the fairing or the opener itself.  I think the curve of the fairing may have prevented the velcro from biting all the way hence the opener slowly coming off.  I'll just have to find a better place for the next one

I "zip tied" mine to the bracket holding the clutch fluid resovoir.

if you zip tie it to your throttle, you can use it as a throttle rocker

if you take the opener apart, you can rig up your high beam switch to activate it and hide the electronics under the plastics...

I would do that David, but opener technically belongs to the apt complex.

Once I get a house of my own that will be a definite mod

There was a heap of trash (about a pick-up-truck worth) on the side of the road this morning that I passed riding in to work--I30 and Beach, Eastbound. Some of it was in my lane, but I didn't hit any. Man, the stink was awful.  :P It smelled like there may have been some rotting wildlife mixed in the mess. :-X Anyway, I can't shake the smell.

a couple of my good friend did their online ordering system for them...i think they still handle that.  i used to have those cookies all the freaking time; they're pretty damn good, and it's hard to beat having warm freshly-baked cookies delivered to you!
